Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I haven't started yet! I hope to when I lay down. We had a dinner and meeting at our house tonight for my oldest's confirmation group - and then I have been working all day. But I hope to read for a few tonight. :) So no pressure!

I did get to watch some episodes of SoA while I worked out today (damn I hate Clay (view spoiler))

WIll do! I think I'll ask in that GR group.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments The What is the Name of That Book? group has helped me a couple of times, so I hope you get the answer you're looking for!

I'm starting The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black for another group's read.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments And speaking of group reads, as was mentioned earlier, we're going to take a break for a little while from nominating and polling group reads, since we were having little activity on the group reads we were doing. Since the mods have been buddy reading books together for a while, we're going to start choosing buddy read books and putting them up here as group reads, so anyone can join us if they'd like.

Our first read will cover the months of March and April and can be read and discussed any time during that period.

We're going to be reading Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin , since there was interest shown from members of the group about this book.

Sacrifice (Elemental, #5) by Brigid Kemmerer Sacrifice (Elemental, #5) by Brigid Kemmerer

Covers for Sacrifice. Michael is quite the focal point.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments No, but thanks for linking! I like this version of Michael much better than the prequel version!

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Just started That Ghoul Ava and the Queen of the Zombies...I'm open to feeling the love but at the moment it's not lighting any fires.

I'm also reading True to the Highlander which I'm enjoying although I'm wondering if maybe it's derivative (time traveling American woman goes back to medieval Scotland and falls in love)...but I haven't read Outlander so I can't be sure.

Have read some really disappointing books in the last week or so. Mint Juleps and Justice was like a guided tour of the Kraft cheese factory.

Crime Wave was like a Stephanie Plum wannabe...only not in a good way...maybe an Explosive 18 wannabe.

That Ghoul Ava & The Queen of the Zombies by T.W. Brown True to the Highlander (Loch Moigh, #1) by Barbara Longley Mint Juleps and Justice (Adams Grove, #5) by Nancy Naigle Crime Wave (Maggie, P.I. Mystery) by Rose Pressey

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Finished Wild by Alex Mallory and I liked just about every single thing about the book from the characters to the story. And the ending was one of the most epic ways to go out if you're going to leave it open-ended. I loved what the author did there. So far, this is my favorite Tarzan and Jane retelling (even if it was a very loose interpretation).

Started Carnal Secrets (The Phoenix Pack, #3) by Suzanne Wright and got about halfway into The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black last night because it's been a quick read.

message 5420: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Damn this book is bad. Imagine a Family Guy Christmas Special....it's all cutaway scenes and offensive for the sake of it.
It's trying to be funny...it's trying to be gross...it's trying to be hip. It's succeeding at being boring.

That Ghoul Ava & The Queen of the Zombies by T.W. Brown

And a female character written by a man who has spent too much time pawing the pages of Hustler.

Just dumb. I've seen vomit that's more interesting.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Another day, another instance of Ian making me laugh.

Sadly, I liked the first few seasons of Family Guy. An ex boyfriend (don't know if you remember my college kid story...yeah, that guy) used to make me watch it with him. After about season 3 though, the show really fell off and became less clever with the crude humor.

And right there is why he was never good enough for you!

I think I've mentioned that I gave one of the guys I used to train with the nickname Stewie because he was a psychopathic baby...actually did I ever tell you my wandering hands story? That was his girlfriend.

Not sure what to read next, maybe i'll just pick something off my kindle. ha!

Then next monday it looks like a few of us will be starting our Group read, Queen of Camelot by Nancy McKenzie If anyone wants to join us.

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 173 comments finished Board Resolution Board Resolution (Knights of the Board Room, #1) by Joey W. Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Read the short of The Druid Series 1 Reapers by Marata Eros for a group read and it was strange - very very rapey (although I'd been warned ahead of time, but yeah...very rapey). I'll probably tackle part 2 next before going back to the phoenix pack book (which has been slow for some reason).

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Samantha wrote: "And of course, that alone has piqued my interest."

The volume 1 through 3 set is a freebie for kindle right now. It's the monthly group read for my monster erotica group, although this is closer to dark erotica than monster erotica. But yeah, so far all of the sex has been completely non-con, so it's definitely not a romance. I don't mind dark erotica and read it every so often, but I was stumped how to rate part 1, so I just declined to rate it.

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments People who are interested in CR...A Hero to Come Home To by Marilyn Pappano is awesome. There is a very subtle Christian message nothing over the top or preachy but enough that I'm assuming the author is a christian.

But what I really love about the book is she gets it. I've read a lot of books by people who have done the research, done the interviews but in the end they kind of miss the mark. Marilyn Pappano gets so much of it right that I'm starting to wonder if she's experienced this stuff first hand.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Aw, I'm glad you found a military hero themed story that finally worked for you.

Samantha wrote: "I love dark erotica. However, I do understand what you are saying..."

I do too, if it's done well, especially if it's meant to make you think. In the case of part 1 of the story I'd read, I thought it was all rape for shock value and no real purpose (especially when some of it involved a character who had no real point in the story).

However, I just finished part 2 and it was SO much better. The plot actually started to kick in and there was one of those insta-bonding (not emotional, but the physical kind where the body can't help itself) stories, which I like.

message 5435: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 419 comments Sounds good, Stacia.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments ...and I finished part 3 (it's essentially one book in 3 short stories).

This is some weird ass stuff. Part 3 went back to being super-rapey, and just when I was getting frustrated, we find out (view spoiler) Then, I was like...okay, that's kind of strangely hot if it's going down like that. Less guilt involved, haha.

So yeah. Weird. Kind of entertaining, but still uncomfortably weird.

Peggyzbooksnmusic Read The Pursuit of Lucy Banning (Avenue of Dreams, #1) by Olivia Newport a historical romance set in 1890s Chicago during the World's Fair. Enjoyable but not great.

Also read Silver Lies (Silver Rush, #1) by Ann Parker the first in a historical mystery series set in Colorado in the 1880s silver rush. I thought it was a very strong start to the series and am now reading #2 Iron Ties (Silver Rush, #2) by Ann Parker

message 5439: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Leea, did you like it? I started the sequel to the Phoenix Pack last week on a flight home and couldn't get into it (but then I started 8 books and couldn't get into them).

I just finished The Chance (Thunder Point, #4) by Robyn Carr up until 75% I loved it and it was 4 stars, I thought the end dragged but I appreciated that she had those parts in it. This was so much better than the book that came before it.

I also read Tempts Me (Every Part of You, #1) by Megan Hart and while it was a complete tease, I am hooked and can't wait for the next one. Unfortunately, I didn't request the sequel until just now so I am jonesing for it.

I am listening to That Touch of Magic by Lucy March and am enjoying it. I am also listening to The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri which is beautiful but heartbreaking.

I just started House of Glass by Sophie Littlefield == so excited to be reading this.

Kay -- I am sorry you didn't love Live. For some reason, it hit me all the right ways. I just got the sequel from NG and can't wait to start it.

To be honest, I didn't expect much from #1 "Silver Ties" (sorry but today Goodreads isn't letting me link to the titles, GRRR!) since it was a "freebie" from Amazon but it grabbed me right from the beginning. Kinda gritty and the characters were more interesting then the mystery.

I just started part 2 [book:Resists Me|17698339]. There's a scene which reminds me of Willing Victim. Weird, the GR bookcover and links aren't working.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Actually, I guess I finished the Megan Hart. I was just about at the end when I wrote that, and didn't realize.

It was good; better than the first, I think. We still need to get to the point where stuff starts to really happen but the build is heading in a good direction.

message 5447: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I really liked the first, I was hooked right away. Although I think it would be better as one solid book rather than installments, I wonder if this method was thought up by the publisher or her.

I wish I had asked for the second one, I guess I will get to it tomorrow. :) I like Simone a lot.
