Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I'm finishing up Saving Quinton (Nova, #2) by Jessica Sorensen .

message 5352: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Yup, the game really sucked. I wouldn't have minded that Denver had lost if the game had been good.

My husband tells me though that we've been lucky in the last few years with good Super Bowl games because there have been lots of loopsided wins. He even looked up the stats: in 50% of Super Bowl games, the winner wins by at LEAST 2 TDs.

So it's pretty much 50-50 to get a competitive game.

This is my favorite Jane Austen!

Finished Maids of Misfortune (A Victorian San Francisco Mystery #1) by M. Louisa Locke . Gave it 3 stars but to be honest it was more of a 2.5 star read, imo. A cozy historical mystery set in 1870's San Francisco. I hope the sequel is better.

Almost cried at the end of the Super Bowl. Felt so bad for Manning, he's such a class act. I'd love for him to win a 2nd SB ring but with his neck injury it might be best for him to retire. Sigh.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I was in a house full of raging Broncos fans yesterday. Since I was the only person at the party who wasn't a home-team fan (although I was rooting for them for this game), it was sort of funny to see people screaming and getting so upset.

The past few years have had shitty halftime shows. I actually think Bruno Mars did an excellent job. At least I liked that part of the game. O.o

Anyway, I read Tempts Me (Every Part of You, #1) by Megan Hart (yes, I said I wasn't going to read any Megan Hart for a while, but I like voyeurism stories). It was hard to get a feel for it because I felt like I'd read a few chapters and it was done with a mini-cliffhanger. This seems to be part of the new trend of serial writing. From what I'd read so far, I guess I'm interested enough to read the next installment though.

Leea | 1437 comments Finished Roar and Liv (Under the Never Sky, #0.5) by Veronica Rossi , it was good and I just love Roar. I've been in a big reading slump and haven't read must, took me days to read this short.

Now i'm reading Mr. Real (Code of Shadows, #1) by Carolyn Crane and it's cleaver and funny so far. Not that far into it. No idea what's coming.

Hope everyone had a good start to the week.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I adore Roar. His friendship with Aria in book 2 is a big highlight of the series for me.

message 5357: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I'll admit that I had forgotten a lot of the first book and Wendy had to remind me. I just love Roar and Liv and hope to read book 2 soon, so I don't forget.

message 5358: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished reading It Felt Like A Kiss by Sarra Manning which I really enjoyed. I'm not sure what mood I'm in at the moment...

Leea, I love Roar too. I hope you will get to book 2 sooner rather than later.

message 5359: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Stacia - beautiful picture! Like Ian, I thought the Stop sign was a rose or a flower of some sort - LOL!

After vowing to only read books I want to read, I set myself the goal of reading 365 books this year. I read well over 300 last year, so... Now, I feel like I'm grabbing books just to read them.

Would it be so bad if I cut my goal in half? I've been reading a few duds lately to fill challenge gaps and just to read to try to keep up with my talley for the year.

BTW, latest Night Huntress (and the last) Up From the Grave (Night Huntress, #7) by Jeaniene Frost was... good but not great. But if it's really the last book (which it seems to be) and you've been a fan of the series, I'd say read it.

message 5360: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Lori McD wrote: "Would it be so bad if I cut my goal in half?"

I think as long as you are enjoying the books, mission accomplished. If reading becomes a chore, it might be time to think about slowing down.

message 5361: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I agree with Ian. This year I set my goal at 100 because last year the dang challenge haunted me. "You're 3 books behind..." Oh man!!! Reading is my one escape, I cannot loose that.

message 5362: by D.G. (last edited Feb 04, 2014 08:52AM) (new)

D.G. At the beginning of the year, I'm always conservative with the goal and then adjust. As Ian said, it's not supposed to be a chore!

Gosh, Stacia! Being in a house full of Broncos fans must have been terrible! Once the second half was done, my husband and I watched Downton Abbey & Sherlock. We just couldn't watch the slaughter anymore.

message 5363: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Ian is exactly right. I just adjusted mine downward. Also, I started the year off with a really long book and I am reading another really long book -- but the challenge doesn't reflect that.

message 5364: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I just finished Crime Wave...kind of awful. I mean a boring as bat sh_t clone of Stephaine Plum. And the end was truly jaw dropping bad. Set up for the next book...she sees a man dragging a blindfolded and gagged woman through her binoculars while she is sunbathing. Then her boyfriend / stalker shows up and what does she do? Some light hearted banter!!! WTF?

Started Min Juleps and Justice which has some mixed ratings. I'm liking it at the moment but honestly, after Crime Wave it could be a cheese sandwich and I'd like it.

Crime Wave (Maggie, P.I. Mystery) by Rose Pressey Mint Juleps and Justice (Adams Grove, #5) by Nancy Naigle

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I started Vain (The Seven Deadly, #1) by Fisher Amelie which actually isn't sucking the way that I'd feared. I also started Wild by Alex Mallory which I'm loving so far. After my last Tarzan and Jane retelling turned out to be a disappointment, I was hoping I'd find another one to read and was happy to stumble upon this galley.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Did a quick read of Girl with the Cat Tattoo (Cool Cats, #1) by Theresa Weir because I'd told Ian I was going to read it already.

It was cute, but very forgettable. The cat narrator idea was kind of fun though.

message 5367: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Now that's a cover... lol!!

Day whatever of not wanting to read. Something in me is broken. ha!!

message 5368: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished Too Much of a Good Thing? by Joss Wood and it was meh. I haven't really been in a reading mood lately...so I don't know what I'll be picking up next.

message 5369: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I'm reading Fighting For Irish (Fighting for Love, #3) by Gina L. Maxwell .

message 5370: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I decided to get back into EiT...I'm reading Come Alive (Experiment in Terror, #7) by Karina Halle .

message 5371: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Thanks for the advice... will probably adjust my challenge for this year.

Reading The Backup Boyfriend (The Boyfriend Chronicles, #1) by River Jaymes and liking it, although there's some predictability. I think Marcella would appreciate it, though.

message 5372: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Feb 07, 2014 08:03AM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments While I'm really liking the book I'm on, it's a little longer than anticipated, so I broke it up with a shorter book that I read in almost one sitting. It was interesting, but strange.

Static by L.A. Witt

I'm curious to see what Wendy and Tellulah would think of this one. It's about a man who finds out his girlfriend is really a shifter who can shift between being male and female. When his girlfriend's parents force him into a surgery which makes him full-time male, the guy has to deal with coming to terms of his girlfriend being a man now and what he's going to do about the relationship.

Are you enjoying it?

Yesterday I had to fly in and out of NY on the same day, really sucked. I was so frenetic on my return flight(last absolute row, middle seat -- but I was lucky, I was the last called person on standby). I started 8 books and didn't like any of them. Completely different genres and styles. So I decided to do an audio, but my iphone was low on juice so I checked what audio book I had on my kidle fire - and Dee and Ian will love this, I started A Little Night Magic by Lucy March in audio. Love it. It helped calm me down, I even listened last night with the timer before I went to sleep.

message 5376: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) I was trying to remember the name of a book I read years ago. I'm pretty sure it was the start of a series and the only thing I can remember is that the female protagonist worked in a bookstore which I believe was owned by a vampire. Does this ring any bells for anyone?

message 5377: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments That's interesting. Bookstores often appear in paranormal books, I was trying to think of books involving bookstores:

Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, #1) by Richelle Mead Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs (Jane Jameson, #1) by Molly Harper The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires (Half Moon Hollow, #1) by Molly Harper

But I can't think of the one you are talking about.

I think Leea is still in a reading funk, I'm not sure she finished it. I did though, and it was okay. I think I was just really turned off by Alix, though I did like Paul.

Living in Sin sounds interesting...I like reading prostitute/escort books if well executed. You'll have to let me know how you like it.

It's been several months since I've read the last book so it's taking me a minute to remember what happened before. I kind of want to know what's going on in Perry's head right now but I'll just have to settle for Dex's.

I haven't read all week, I just couldn't get into it. But it's not the book, it's my mood. Totally sucks! I may end up starting The Chance on sunday because my husband is gone and it's going to rain all day. I have hight hopes this book will un-funk me (yes, that's not a word) haha!

It is really cute. The heroine is not typical. She feels fat, worries about her wait, has friends prettier than her, the guy she likes doesn't appear interested in her -- some unusual quirks to a story. The paranormal element is very lightly done.
