Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Haha! That is very true! We just got a tv for our bedroom
Not conducive to reading. Plus my husband has been driving me to work so less train reading time.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I've been reading less lately too, which stinks since my goal this year is higher.

Me, too, Wendy! I'm already four books behind!

LOL! I agree. Why do we put so much pressure on oursevles? ;)

message 5256: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments It is completely stressful!! Stop telling me 'you are two books behind'!

message 5257: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I am five behind! Lol.

Anna (Bobs Her Hair) Regina wrote: "I am five behind! Lol."

Cut your goal in half. You can bump it up when you start reading regularly again. It's what I did last year when my January stars were several books behind.

I did that last year and still fell behind. Lol. But I started low this year. I agree to start small and increase.

message 5260: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments LOL, I did that in 2012, brought my goal down until I was reading more, but it felt like cheating and didn't really relieve the stress.

Regina, I'd be more too but I keep throwing in little shorts to bump it up. That doesn't make me feel guilty because I went with 150 intending for some of those to be shorts, lmao.

Anna (Bobs Her Hair) @Samantha. That happened to me too, so I cut my pile til I was caught up. My fear was getting congrats when my goal was in sight. The answer was to add 5 more when I was 10 books within my goal. It's silly that I played that game. Reading is a pleasure, but GR saying I was such-and-such behind stressed me out. Imagine a talking scale telling you how many pounds you were behind your weight goal. Yeah. The scale might get some water by its battery compartment. :(

Same here. That thing was glaring at me. As soon as I completed my goal, it was easier. It is funny in a way because nobody is making me do anything. :)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments Did any of you listen to Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days #1) by Susan Ee on audio? If so, how was the narrator?

message 5264: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I did Angie and I loved it.

message 5265: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments LOL Anna! I have never ever been behind and this year my "challenge" is lower than last year b/c I know I had less time and I am still behind. Maybe I will lower it to something more rational for the current state of my life.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments Regina wrote: "I did Angie and I loved it."

Thanks, Regina.

I've been dying to read this and simply haven't had time. I may try the audio.

message 5267: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Do you listen to audio regularly? I did not know that.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments Regina wrote: "Do you listen to audio regularly? I did not know that."

I do, but mostly books I've already read because I do it at work, and sometimes I'm only half listening.

But I only started because of you! LOL I tried audio years ago and didn't like it, but you're constantly raving about how much you like audio, so I tried it again. And I love it! (Depending on the narrator.) So thanks for that! :)

message 5269: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Yay! Great way to fit in books you want to read and can't get to. :D

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Woo! Read Angelfall. It's excellent!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Kay, I hope you have fun getting your book signed. I just finished Into the Still Blue (Under the Never Sky, #3) by Veronica Rossi yesterday (yes, I did try to read it a few months ago and put it on the shelf). It was very different from the first two books, but it wrapped up the trilogy well enough.

Working on buddy reads for two groups at the moment. Doing a re-read of Wicked as They Come (Blud, #1) by Delilah S. Dawson and I'm enjoying it even more the second time, now that I've read and learned more about the world and characters in some of the other stories. Also working on Reaper's Legacy (Reapers MC, #2) by Joanna Wylde

I'm throwing a surprise bday party for my friend tonight, it's her birthday today and she has no idea. I've forgotten how stressful surprise bday parties can be, needless to say i'm looking forward to the end of the night. Ha!

I am about 44% and it did take a me few chapters to get into it. It might be because I didn't re-read the first 2 books and it's been so long since I've read it. So far...I'm enjoying it. I am just very anxious for all of the characters.

The ACRO series is steammmmmmy. My favorite is book 2 Unleashing the Storm! It made me cry. There was something irritating about the first book. Other people didn't seem bothered so it must have been my quirk, so I won't mention it. Btw, didn't Larissa Ione mention more Sydney Croft books are in the works?

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I just finished Liar, Liar, Hearts On Fire by Jennifer Zane and am going to work on finishing Breaking Nova (Nova, #1) by Jessica Sorensen next. I was going to try and stay away from this one because I've heard it's heavy on the angst, but I just can't seem to stay away from Jessica Sorensen!

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments going to start my ARC of Asking for Trouble - Rosalind James' new book - comes out this weekend I think; also working on The Beginning of Everything and A Thousand Perfect Things (problem for me with this is that I don't know a lot about Britan's colonialization of Indian and its an alternate history based on that)

I listened to it. Was pretty good I think. I don't really remember the narration and if it's terrible I always remember.

message 5282: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I just started the long awaited, That Touch of Magic by Lucy March. Is very good so far. Two years between books and it seems she was spending her time well...it's sparkles.

Also began The Chance by Robyn Carr...I liked the previous books in the Thunderpoint series with some caveats...but I'm loving this one. Are there any CR people here?

I bought Crime Wave on a whim...not really sure what to expect but fingers crossed.

And I'm starting Kitty and the Silver Bullet. Kind of fluffy, not too taxing but pretty good fun. I sent the first three audiobooks in the series to you Ace. They were sitting here gathering dust and I noticed Kitty and the Midnight Hour was on your TBR so I thought what the hell.

That Touch of Magic by Lucy March The Chance (Thunder Point, #4) by Robyn Carr Crime Wave (Maggie, P.I. Mystery) by Rose Pressey Kitty and the Silver Bullet (Kitty Norville, #4) by Carrie Vaughn

Right here!!! I have that ARC to read, I'm so glad you're liking it. For me I thought the first two books in the series were very mediocre at best, the last book was a lot better so I have hope for The Chance.

Regina, when did you want to start The Chance, let me know what works in your schedule and i'll make room :)

message 5286: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Finished the short, The Mammoth Book of Special Ops Romance, I just read the Sydney Croft, Code Name: Storm short and It was short and sweet.

We finally got rain last night and today after months of warm weather and no rain. Now my wimpy California blood is freezing. lol!

message 5287: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments I felt the same way about Thunderpoint...I liked the first one, but felt that the couple in the second book kinda got screwed over because she focused more on the first couple again...I have book 3, but haven't read it - scared the same thing is going to happen

message 5288: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I enjoyed book 3 more than the first two and I felt Carr wen't back to her tried and true structure for writing. I personally enjoy learning about the town and I liked getting to know the high school kids (and couples) too. I think that's what I enjoy so much about her writing is how she's not afraid to show pieces of the whole town.

I also read The Hero a few months after a long road trip up the Oregon coast so I could almost see Thunderpoint in my mind. That was fun too.

message 5289: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments she has a few stand-alones that I liked - The House on Olive Street - but I dunno, her series books just always feel like they are missing something

message 5290: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Leea wrote: "Right here!!! I have that ARC to read, I'm so glad you're liking it."

Not sure what was going on with the first few books. I think with Virgin River it was intended to be another Grace Valley (3 book series) which evolved...but with Thunder Point the plan from the very beginning was a long running series and maybe she put too much into the early books.

What do you think of the titles? I honestly don't get them. It's like she had a working title while she was writing the books and rather than replacing it with something more fitting for publication she just left it.

message 5291: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I haven't read The House on Olive Street...when I was looking at it a while ago I saw a few mixed reviews and backed away. I really love Summer in Sonoma another of her stand-alones.

I haven't felt like read much today.

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Yes, Leea. It's the last book. You should finish it especially if you enjoyed the first one.

They're in the box. I think I posted them on Monday or Tuesday so you should have them in a couple of weeks. Lemon Crisps....best cookie ever! I'll be curious to know if you have anything similar in the U.S.. I think a lot of our biscuits are similar to what you can already get....but I've never seen anything like Tim Tams or Lemon Crisps.

Mmm, lemon crisps are delish! They are a combo of salty and a little bit of sweet. Arnott's makes delicious 'biscuits!'

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments The dark chocolate mint Tim Tams taste like our thin mint Girl Scout cookies. I think I preferred those to the regular Tim Tans.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Leea, if you can, read the short story 1.5 before reading book 2. It's so worth it.
