Gosh, finally finished Cowgirls Don't Cry. I'm so glad to be done with it and the series!

I'm also listening to but I'm not that crazy about it. Maybe because I see some similarities to other series I like better like Mercy Thompson. And I'm tired of everybody asking 'what are you??'

I just started Saving Justice by Tasman Gibb and Kitty Takes a Holiday by Carrie Vaughn.

I'm enjoying both but I'm not seeing the international angle to Saving Justice. The author is from New Zealand, and in this book she made her hero a New Zealander. But to me, that aspect makes the story a little clunky. I mean, she needed to give him a reason for being in the U.S. so she created an organisation which crosses international borders to combat dog fighting. To me that seems a little watery and to fix it all she'd need to do is make the hero a U.S. citizen working for an American organisation to do the same thing within the U.S..

Let me know how the Maya Banks one is, Regina. I haven't had good luck with her contemporary books. :(

Angie -- I am worried too. Also, it is a print book -- which I don't do well with (I know it is silly, just the truth, I prefer ebooks). I tried a few of her romantic suspense books and was not impressed.

I'll probably listen to this book and depending on how it ends, I'll stop reading the series or just listening to book 2. But even if I choose to do the latter, it won't probably be anytime soon.

In my quest to work on the books on my TBR, I started , one of those freebies I got a long time ago. It's one of those romances that reads almost like literary fiction because people are so real. The hero is particularly very well drawn - I can believe him being an actor with his sensitive nature and his need to be the center of attention and make people laugh (I also like that he's a comedic actor, which I've never seen in romance.) Not so sure about the heroine though.

I really like the Skinwalker series. Although after the first few books I found them annoying (that's normal for me...I don't like long running series). One thing I really loved about Skinwalker is the back story about vampires. I found that really interesting.

But I just read Black Arts and found the love again.

I've only ever read the first Mercy Thompson book. For some reason it's just not easy to get in Australia...and I was kind of annoyed that they were asking for something stupid like $12 for the Kindle version.

A book from 2006, Kindle edition...$12. Paperback edition $8. When I look at Amazon I notice they've dropped the price to $10.53...wow, thanks for that. It's also showing the publication date as 2010. What's with that?

Started Riding the Storm, I needed a break from Somerset. It starts off, lots of sex already but also an outline for a great story.

School cancelled again tomorrow! Our school never cancels, this is the 3rd time cancelled for sub-zero dangerous temps.

I started and there are quite a few spelling and grammar errors. I am only in the beginning -- the number of them surprises me, but I do have an arc. So hopefully they got corrected. But wow, this book really is just not for me. I really don't like the "I will decide everything for you (in AND out of bed)" storyline. In bed is one thing. Oh, and everyone is super rich (despite all coming from a poor background).

Yeah, me too. I realize these were written a few years ago, but NOLA is overdone in UF/PNR. I hated her judgmentalness about sex -- it was weird, it snuck out ocassionally. I liked a lot about her world and thought it was unique. I loved what she was and the story behind it. I think I puttered out during #3.

I don't mind the 'I'll decide everything for you' plot line when it's done well. My biggest issue with her contemporary books is that the men--once they've fallen in love--are completely unrecognizable to who they were before. That's just too much for me to swallow. If you give me an alpha man, I want him alpha all the way through. Don't have him do a 180 because of love. If he's truly an alpha, in my mind, he's going to become MORE of one when he finds the woman he wants to be with. Not less.

LOVE Rhys Bowen's Her Spyness books - I've probably said that before, but I like the spunky Lady Georgie and Darcy O'Mara... something wholesome about Lady Georgie in that whole 20s time period.

I also enjoyed . I've also read , which was also good, but not quite as good, IMO, as the 1st book.

Been working my way through Suzanne Brockmann's Tall, Dark, and Deadly series with SEAL Team Ten. These books seem to be before the Troubleshooter books, and I can see Brockman's growth as a writer; but I still love her style. And who doesn't love a yummy SEAL?

So overdone! I totally get that Anne Rice started the trend, blah, blah, blah but colder environments make so much more sense for vampires in my mind. That's one of the few things I liked about Twlight.

Finished - loved. The writing style reminded me a little of the beauty of Laini Taylor.

I don't think the third (you mean the epilogue, right?) was necessary. In fact, I think it sort of killed the good momentum of where book 2 ended.

If you're looking for a serious mind trip, this book is crazy (in a very "can't look away" kind of way). It's like a mind fuck book mixed with a sad romance with a slight literary twist. It's probably one of the only dark/taboo erotica left that I still like (most of them are all cookie cutter now).

almost done with Love's Little Instruction Book - blergh - I liked the premise, but the execution...ack

I think my biggest complain - the author was referring romance authors in the book (guys are reading to learn what to do) and you can tell she based the authors on real ones - like Susan Brockton and her SEAL's instead of Suzanne Brockmann...and it was just like why not actually use a real author; lisa klepyas was another one who was alluded to, yet, she used an actual book title with A Knight in Shining Armor

I dnfed Letting Go and I feel horrible about it (since it was an arc). I just don't find it appealing to have a man tell a woman what to wear, where to go, and the concept of submitting in everything to be the greatest gift a woman to give a man (that is how it is talked about in the book). This concept of submission in everything is widely practiced where I grew up among many families there (some women even where little doilie things on their heads to indicate this submission in all things -- it is a religious requirement, the concept of female submission and a specific bible passage is quoted to support it -- I dated a pastor's son and know the bible passage b/c his dad would often lecture me about it). I just don't get the attraction and I know that is me personally but I say it as someone who saw it in practice. Rarely are the men in these situations making the right decisions in everything! I have said it before in this group, to me and my opinion only a truly strong man is one who wants a partner and accepts other people's opinions and ideas -- and knows when to compromise and work with others. Because all of that is a sign of confidence and intelligence. I work with alpha women and men as it is the nature of litigation to be like that and we can't accomplish what we want to accomplish without compromise, working with others and understanding when to back down and when we need help. I guess I just find the stark tropes not genuine and troublesome. I think this is why I love Cara McKenna's stories that have the dominant sex play -- the concept of dominance doesn't bleed into other areas out of the bed and it doesn't get into harsh bdsm. I am rambling, not sure if I am making sense. I am not making a judgement (I know we all want separate stuff which is pretty cool -- that is why it is fun to discuss stuff). I am just trying to say why I dnfed it and this may be a great book for other readers. Also, I just don't think a lot of thought goes into writing this storyline but it seems more of an author trying to write a popular niche story -- quickly -- because so many books have been popular in this area. I would love for someone else to read this book and love it -- so I could be told hey Regina -- it is well done! :D

Maya Banks has been writing BDSM type stories for quite a few years now though - so I don't know if it would fall into the popular niche story - I actualy didn't mind her Sweet series, but pretty much all of her other recent stuff has been crap

Oh I read one of those and liked it Sweet Surrender (view spoiler)[(except for the constant drenching that the heroine experienced (hide spoiler)] -- this isn't like that at all. When I say niche -- I should have said the super powerful and wealthy hero (like 50).

I have loved her historicals. I was very meh on the multiple brother one woman story line and I can buy into a multiple lover situation easily.

I'm so there with you, Regina. I can understand submission as a bedroom thing but not in daily life. Nobody is right 100% of the time so why should they always make all decisions?

My dad is like that, it's just one of those button issue I wont ever be able to get over. I agree about Sweet Surrender, I think I rated that book higher than I would now. I only like Bank's Historical's so far.

37% into and I like it. A ton of sex, lol! So far it's not getting old or over played and I like how more of the other character are being introduced.

Oh, yeah! Michael! Do you think Kemmerer will end the series with him? There are too many unresolved issues with Elementals. Perhaps there will be a HFN in the world.

About Elementals, even though I hate when series drag out too long, I wouldn't mind if we got a few more books. So far, the quality has been pretty consistent throughout, although we don't really have any other main characters who need a book now (I would have said (view spoiler)[Tyler could have a book, but now that he's with Quinn, I don't see the point (hide spoiler)]. I think Hunter's story needs to be finished and Chris and Becca could probably get a novella because everyone else has had both a novella and book. I actually think the guides/extra elementals need to be expanded on, so maybe a spin-off or something?

The Guides do need development. They remind me of lessers from BDB. "I keel you!" And into the Omega...ahhhhhhhhh! Yeah, a little predictable. Need some inner conflict with them, not counting Becca's you-know-who.
