Leea | 1437 comments I'm going to try Keegan's Lady (Keegan-Paxton #1) by Catherine Anderson . Kay is going to join me so if anyone else wants to join us - that would be fun!!

Leea | 1437 comments Had some time to read this morning and the first chapter of Keegans Lady was heartbreaking. 14%, Chap 4 now. How far did you get Kay? Thoughts?

message 5103: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I'm really enjoying it! The prologue was hard to read and the first meeting inside the barn was rough! Both their backgrounds are sad. I look forward to reading how they will work it out between them. I'm about 40% but probably won't be able to read anymore until tonight.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Tellulah wrote: "Stacia (waiting on tomorrow) wrote: "Oh, and I started Painted Faces by L.H. Cosway and I'm in love. One of my friends told me to read it a while back and I really should have listened to her..."

It truly was a wonderful book. I loved the push and pull between happy moments and serious moments. Nicholas/Viv was a great character. Not really a spoiler, but I'll tag it because it's a describing a scene. (view spoiler)

Anyway, I feel like kicking myself for not reading the book sooner. I had the feeling I'd love it because the person who rec'd it to me has some of the same "happy factors" that I do. But the book cover kept throwing me off for looking cheap and tacky. After reading the book I got it. The picture matches one of Nicolas' specific looks, so it fits.

Ahhh i'm only 21% into it. It's a beautiful weather here, 70's so i'm taking the boys to the park again. I hope to read more tonight, jims working late.

message 5106: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Hmmm...I'm tempted to pick up 'Keegan's Lady'. It sounds good!

Now I'm listening to Steel's Edge (The Edge, #4) by Ilona Andrews . So far so good.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Okay, back to Beyond Shame (Beyond, #1) by Kit Rocha . I finished this and Painted Faces close together yesterday and forgot to come back to talk about either until now.

I liked it well enough as an erotica, but not so much as a sci-fi. The sex itself went into the realm of some good "if you could do whatever you wanted to" fantasies. I saw a lot of missed potential with the world building, but the actual world vibe was dark and gritty, which I was a fan of. Even though the "underground fighting" thing has been a bit of an overdone trend (although I guess it's not quite so underground in this book), it's still one I don't mind reading. I have a thing for men who can fight.

Loved Jasper but thought Noelle (view spoiler)

I am most interested in Ace and Rachel's story. Maddox seems like he might be interesting as well. Same with Bren (was that his name? I don't know if I got it right).

It looks like I was only complaining but I liked more about the story than I disliked (still not sure though if I'll go 3 stars or 3.5...I'm leaning toward 3 for wishing the author had tightened up the cohesiveness between the story and the erotica). I've always been partial to the exhibitionist fantasy, so the freedom of sexuality out in the open like that is always enjoyable for me to read.

Join us DG... I would be fun!!

message 5109: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments DG, you should join us. I am really enjoying it so far.

I am marking Painted Faces to my TBR list...it sounds very interesting.

Stacia, I agree with you about Beyond Shame. I would have liked more world building. The majority of the time was spent in Sector 4 but felt like it could have been anywhere. For me, I was curious to read more but a few days later, I can't remember much about the characters. But I will probably pick up the series again if I want a SMUT escape.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments ....and last post about what I'm reading.

I was bored last night with the galley I was reading, so I switched and decided to randomly read a kindle freebie which had been sitting on my reader for over a year because I never read my freebies (it's sad...I collect them and they sit there).

So I tried Perillegal by Joey Przymus and ended up reading it all the way through in one sitting til about 3 in the morning. I shut off my reader, went to sleep, and woke up still thinking about it - in both a good and a bad way.

There have only been maybe 2 or 3 instances ever which have forced me not to rate a book because I'm so completely confused about my feelings. This was one of them. The book was so engaging that I could not put it down, yet it was so wrong and so idiotic on quite a few levels. I was rooting for a couple to end up together who I shouldn't have been rooting for, and I feel downright ashamed of myself for even thinking it because to do so was an insult to women everywhere. O.o

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Kay wrote: "The majority of the time was spent in Sector 4 but felt like it could have been anywhere..."

THIS. Exactly.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Oh, one more thing about Beyond Shame. I'm in the middle of trying to get my thoughts together for review and realized I forgot to mention something.

We went from one scene where Jasper and Dallas are handling their low-down and dirty business for their "gang," then I could almost hear a narrator in my head saying, "...and back at the crib..." because were shaken out of that and back into the swing of Noelle wanting to get laid.

Transitions are your friend.

Leea | 1437 comments Can't wait to read your review, Stacia. I agree with all your comments.

message 5114: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Jan 16, 2014 04:08PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I literally just finished writing it, but won't post it until tonight because I have to go get dinner started and don't have time to proof for errors.

Anyway, sorry if I monopolized the page. Kay, I hope you get the chance to read Painted Faces sometime. :)

message 5115: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments You didn't monopolize the page, I'm sorry I haven't been around the chat with you about Beyond Shame, I think the series as a whole has promise. Let me know when you're getting ready to start the second book.

message 5116: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Put The Duke 's Tattoo on my list...

Read 2 Suzanne Brockmann book's in her Tall, Dark, and Deadly series Prince Joe (Tall, Dark & Dangerous, #1) by Suzanne Brockmann and Forever Blue (Tall, Dark & Dangerous #2) by Suzanne Brockmann . Have to say these books aren't as good as the Troubleshooter series. But hard to go too wrong with hot Navy SEALs. I just found some of her plot points unrealistic and heavy handed. Can't win em all.

message 5117: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Nothing like Brockmann's Troubleshooters :)

message 5118: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I wish I could join you ladies but lately I'm only listening to audio. It's just working better with my new commute.

I think I'll try to read books during the weekend so I can work on my TBR!

message 5119: by D.G. (new)

D.G. A friend just told me that they will be re-recording the first 4 books in the Troubleshooter series with the dual narration. I think I'll wait until those audios come out before starting the series.

message 5120: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Oh interesting! I will say that ##3 and 4 are still really good with the old narrator. Hopefully the team is able to improve on 1 and 2. I know you won't like the heroine of #2.

message 5121: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I'm starting Masquerade (Games, #3) by Nyrae Dawn .

message 5122: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments I liked SB's Tall Dark and Dangerous series when they were released, but they are seriously dated nwo - I think Prince Joe (the first one) came out in the 90's - so they are like 20 years old (I remember reading them in like grade 8/9) - total cheesy harlequin romance

message 5123: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments I finished up In Bed with Mr. Wrong - it totally hit all my sweet contemporary romance buttons, with THANKFULLY no BDSM crap (not that I mind it occasionally, but I hate that all the books I was picking up for a while had that)

message 5124: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I finished Keegan's Lady (Keegan-Paxton #1) by Catherine Anderson and it was very good. I then read a short The True Love Wedding Dress (Includes Keegan-Paxton #2) by Catherine Anderson , I just read the short by Anderson about Patrick and it was very good.

Happy Friday True Love!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I just finished Raw by Belle Aurora and...hmm...lots of cringe-worthy wtfery present, but it was an interesting trip.

I think it's time for me to get off the erotic mind fuck train for the week. I read a few of these books this week. Time to get back to normalcy.

Going to see if I can refocus on Phoenix Island by John Dixon and finish up To Tempt a Viking (Forbidden Vikings, #2) by Michelle Willingham

message 5126: by D.G. (last edited Jan 18, 2014 05:05AM) (new)

D.G. Regina wrote: "Oh interesting! I will say that ##3 and 4 are still really good with the old narrator. Hopefully the team is able to improve on 1 and 2. I know you won't like the heroine of #2."

The first 6 books are narrated by 5 different narrators. I know I didn't care for the narration in #1 and that's one of the reasons the book has been languishing on my TBR.

In long series, it's doubtful that I'd like all the heroines. :) The PsyChangeling series probably has one of my most hated heroines and I love that series.

message 5127: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments 3 through 6 are some of my favorite in the series and I listened only to this a series. I guess my point is the narrators did not detract from my enjoyment.

I didn't known you read #1.

I also finished these books...so good! I don't know what to read next. I hope everyone is having a good Saturday!

message 5129: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 419 comments I finished Fighting Destiny (The Fae Chronicles, #1) by Amelia Hutchins Taunting Destiny (The Fae Chronicles #2) by Amelia Hutchins . I look forward to book 3. The author needed a good editor but the story reminded me of the fever series in too many ways.

I need a bit of edge today so I'm reading Tears of Tess (Monsters in the Dark, #1) by Pepper Winters

message 5131: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Got Season of the Witch by Natasha Mostert off NG and really enjoyed it. The title was misleading because its not a witchy fantasy at all. It deals with memory and transcendence and data and obsession. Kind of reminded me of a lighter version of John Fowles' The Magus which I loved way back when and now want to go and reread.

message 5132: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

I wish I could, but I'm knee deep in Kristen Ashley. There's no tearing myself away. Lol

message 5137: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I'm reading The Dark Unwinding at the moment. It's steam punk with a dark undercurrent of something...almost malevolence. Like the Mad Hatters Tea Party...or that hunter episode of Gilligan's Island.

Just started Once in a Lifetime by Jill Shalvis, which is very much a safe read for me. More comfort than challenge.

and finished the chicken book. Carousel Sun. It was interesting, but hard going. I don't think it works on its own...you have to read book one to get this one (I didn't and was confused for most of the book). It had a bit of a carnie feel to it and for some reason when I think carnie, I think, 'oh...Stacia might like this.' lol.

One thing...Carousel Sun illustrates the importance of a good cover. I wouldn't have given this book a second thought if the cover didn't catch my attention.

The Dark Unwinding (The Dark Unwinding, #1) by Sharon Cameron Once in a Lifetime (Lucky Harbor #9) by Jill Shalvis Carousel Sun (Carousel, #2) by Sharon Lee

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments i just finished Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes - it was a kinda quirky lite romance/mystery - but a good read - there were a few bits that irked me - (view spoiler) - but I'm probably going to continue the series

message 5139: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Dee wrote: "i just finished Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes

I've had the next in the series sitting on my Kindle for a couple of months...I really enjoyed this book and need to get onto book 2 before it gets consigned to the Deep Dark TBR of Despair.

I read another of her books...Chosen and found it hard going but this book was fun.

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished a short novella The Next Little Thing (Jackson Falls, #3.5) by Laurie Breton and started Redemption Road (Jackson Falls #4) by Laurie Breton . Leea, I hope you like Coming Home.

Happy Sunday everyone!! We went to a bday party earlier today. Now, back home and watching the NFL playoffs. Crossing my fingers that the 49ers beat Seattle.

The Broncos already won so at least one of my picks will be making it to the Super Bowl.

message 5146: by D.G. (last edited Jan 19, 2014 03:20PM) (new)

D.G. No, Regina I haven't read #1 (Troubleshooters) but I can tell within a few minutes if a narration won't work for me. I'm very picky with the narrations. :)

message 5147: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments May the best team win! Go 49ers! LOL

message 5148: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I think I've found a way to balance my audio listening with ebook reading. I decided to read ebooks during the weekend and listen during the week.

So far, I've read two ebooks this week Double Down (Vegas Top Guns, #1) by Katie Porter , which had an interesting premise but the author didn't sold me completely on it. Now I'm reading Promises (Coda Books, #1) by Marie Sexton , very good so far.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I live in Bronco country, so my husband is happy ATM.

Now to see who wins the next game...
