jaxnsmom | 8341 comments The wait is over! Here are your instructions. I hope you enjoy this Toppler!

Without reading the spoilers, choose one method. Then you may open that method and find out what you'll be reading first.

Tell us what method you used, but don’t tell what number the method is. No one should know what each numbered method is, everyone should be picking blindly.

Remember, you are on your honor to read the book from the first method you choose. Don’t pick another method until after you have finished your book.

If you are traveling and think you’ll read more than one book but don’t want to pack them all, PM me.

3. (view spoiler)
4. (view spoiler)
5. (view spoiler)
6. Only if you’ve used all the other methods or are very adventurous! (view spoiler)

Have fun, but remember, I am

Lynn | 2974 comments Oooohh I'm so tempted to pick number 6 .... but I think I'll be sensible seen as I'm away that weekend.

message 3: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments In order for my choice to be random, I am going to use the fruit machine to pick which number method I will use.

Kimberly | 2033 comments I can't wait for next weekend! I hope this week goes by fast.

I was thinking the very exact thing....

race you to the fruit machine!

message 6: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Woohooo - headed to my toppler thread to apply the method. :)

message 7: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I ended up with the fruit machine choosing my book with the fewest ratings, which is To The Elephant Graveyard by Tarquin Hall. If the writing's as good as in his Vish Puri series, I'll be very happy.

message 8: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments I am reading Mrs. Jeffries Dusts for Clues because it has the lowest number of ratings on GR..

message 9: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Apr 07, 2013 09:45AM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Are we to put our results in this thread too?

The fruit machine chose the option to read the book that had been on my TBR the longest. That would be Misery

Just a little tip for people trying to quickly find thir TBR Toppler thread (there are quite a few to wade through). Go to the top of this page and click on "TBR Topplers". It will take you to a list of all threads in the folder. Mouse over "Topics". Click on it and it will sort them alphabetically.

message 10: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments I picked the lowest number of ratings too, I will be reading A Walk Across the Sun

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Almeta wrote: "Haunts, the shortest book! Hooray!"

Hmmph! Why couldn't I have gotten that method? Old slowpoke me needs all the help I can get!

message 13: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Actually, Almeta... it looks that like book would have also been the winner if you had gotten the method that has you reading the book with the fewest ratings, since that has 0 ratings. You may be the first!

message 14: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments I also ended up choosing the book that had the fewest GR reviews (great idea BTW!). I'll be reading Deep Change: Discovering the Leader Within which I'll also be reading for my Happy Hour Girl's Club at my job.

Post about your book anywhere you'd like.

Ahem...where were you with your handy tip when I was trying to figure out participants in the last Toppler?!?!

message 16: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4530 comments Oh boy, got shortest book. I'll be readingGenesis. Great for a slow poke like me. Maybe I'll actually finish and have time to read another one.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

I got the random number generator and it spat out The Penelopiad.

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments jaxnsmom wrote: "Ahem...where were you with your handy tip when I was trying to figure out participants in the last Toppler?!?!"

I discovered that when I was trying to post badges one time and losing my mind. In desperation, I moused over the headings looking to see if they could be sorted somehow and was pleased to see that they were sortable. YEAH!

message 19: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 915 comments The fruit machine picked for me the shortest book on my list. So...here's where I show my real blondeness :-)
Is that in terms of page numbers or name of title? Just wondering, looking at others selections?

I would say that's page numbers.

message 21: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments That would be my instinct too

message 22: by Cathie (last edited Apr 07, 2013 10:38AM) (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 915 comments That's what I'm thinking too. My shortest book is the one with the longest title, lol.
Heaven is for Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back

LOL! The title makes up for the page length, I guess.

message 24: by Ava Catherine (new)

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments I'll be reading The Great Santini because it has been on my tbr the longest. (since April 14, 2012) LOL!

message 25: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments With the lowest number of ratings to choose, I got The Violet Hour: A Novel with just 2 ratings!

message 26: by Ava Catherine (new)

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments Pragya, it still looks like an excellent book! ; ) I am trying not to add it to my tbr. I am sitting on my hands! Let me know if it is as good as it looks! lol

message 28: by Lisa (last edited Apr 07, 2013 03:52PM) (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I got the method where I have to pick one of the other participants and they then decide which book I will read!

JMom, seeing as this is your toppler would you mind picking my book for me? Please be kind! ;)

message 29: by Ann (last edited Apr 11, 2013 08:59AM) (new)

Ann (disciple45) I got the shortest book which on my list was my #10 book Lilac Bus by Maeve Binchy
This method will give me a feeling of accomplishment quickly!
Well guess what? When I found my copy of the book it has 400 pages! So, now my book will be Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie

I know Connie, I really lucked out! It's one of the few Binchey books I haven't read yet!

message 34: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 915 comments I didn't think Binchey wrote books that short ~ lucky you and that just got added to my to read list :-)

There certainly is! Looks like I am the only person to pick that method so far! It's going to be interesting to see what book is chosen for me :)

message 36: by Ava Catherine (new)

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments Fingers crossed and hoping you get the one you want the most, Lisa!

message 37: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I've got the method to choose which book has been on my TBR list longest. That would be Cat's Cradle which, hooray, fits in with my alphabet challenge! I have one book to read this week before it, and will start reading it today! Thank goodness Cat's Cradle is available at the library. I had failed to request in advance!

Science Fiction, Dystopia..right up your alley. I hope you like it and can convince me that I might like it also. Kurt Vonnegut and I have not gotten along in the past, even though everyone sez that he is such a nice fellow! ☺

message 41: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments Yay, shortest book! Boy Meets Boy, which is perfect considering I have an all afternoon/evening farewell party that I'd completely forgotten about until yesterday!

message 42: by Josée Leon (new)

Josée Leon (join_bookland) This is so exciting! I love all the methods! I got the method to read the book that has been on the TBR or physical shelf the longest. Well... A Separate Peace was a book that my husband brought with him when we moved in together... over 17 years ago! I'd say that's the winner :)

And at 196 pages it wouldn't qualify for other challenges, so that worked out great!

That's a long time to have a book!

Josee, did you look at all the methods? Not sure from your statement. If so, and you're going to read a second book, let me know and I'll tell you what to do.

message 49: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Never tried Vonnegut, so we'll see.

message 50: by Josée Leon (new)

Josée Leon (join_bookland) No jaxnmom, I only looked at one. I was only commenting on the methods others got. I might be able to get a second book in but will only check another method once I finish my first book :)
