Thanks for picking Sherlock Holmes and the Whitechapel Vampire for me JMom! Sherlock Holmes, Jack the Ripper and vampires all in one story is like book heaven for me! I can't wait to start reading it! I hope you enjoy your book(s) too! :)

message 52: by Julia (new)

Julia Gallagher (juliagallagher) | 140 comments I was told to pick the book that's been on my TBR shelf the longest. That is Alanna: The First Adventure. It even fits into my alphabet challenge if I can get it together to finish two more books before Saturday. :)

message 53: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Julia, I love Tamora Pierce's books. I hope you enjoy Alanna.

message 55: by Naomi (new)

Naomi (nchigh) | 706 comments I get to read the shortest book on my list which is:

Salvation City Salvation City by Sigrid Nunez .

message 56: by Thing Two (new)

Thing Two (thingtwo) Random.org picked Stop walking on eggshells : coping when someone you care about has borderline personality disorder for me, so it looks as if I'll be learning something new next weekend.

message 57: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments I got a random book from my list and it turned out to be Mary Poppins

message 58: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I got book that has been on your shelf the longest. However, now I need to go home and stare at the books, as I sat at home one day with my barcode scanner and scanned in every book I owned at once. Now I can't remember which ones I *owned* first, not goodreads shelved first.

#firstworldproblems.

That's great! I would have realized that immediately if my brain wasn't on empty. At least I'll have this week to recharge :) I hope you enjoy your first book!

message 60: by Josée Leon (new)

Josée Leon (join_bookland) No problem jmom :) I'm looking forward to it!

message 61: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Brown Woo hoo.... i just picked my method and am excited! ;) Now to go look at the books and see which one fits the method! Curious what the other methods are, but I"m not looking yet just encase a miracle happens and I finish this one quickly and get to pick another... HA!! :)

Okay.... The Loom by Shella Gillus The Loom
is the book that fits my method.... it is the shortest book on my list! :)

I was the child who obeyed and was brought up Pentecostal so I don't usually look for this kind of read but the subject matter would certainly warrant it.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Ignore my previous comment, I am a complete numpty.

I'll be reading The Golden Compass

message 67: by Jess :) (new)

message 68: by Sam (new)

Sam (ecowitch) | 2354 comments I used a dice throw to decide mine and came out with the shortest book, so had two choices so on the decision of a coin toss my first Toppler book will be Mr. Wilson's Cabinet Of Wonder: Pronged Ants, Horned Humans, Mice on Toast, and Other Marvels of Jurassic Techno logy :-)

message 69: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth I got the book that has been on my shelf longest. Dead in the Family Dead in the Family (Sookie Stackhouse, #10) by Charlaine Harris

Not my favorite series but I feel like I've invested so much time in it already that I want to finish it! But then again once I finish one I usually decide it wasn't half bad after all. Just seems like I have a hard time getting started with them I guess.

I picked that method too Alexandra. I think we are the only 2 people to get that method so far. I would be happy to pick your book for you if you would like me to? :)

message 73: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 665 comments Thank you, Lisa. I would definitely like you to pick a book for me :-).

message 74: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 665 comments I just realised that I might have a problem though as I did create my list after the 7th.
JMom, can I still participate in the toppler or have I been too late (I would completely understand that - rules are rules).

I know you are not 100% sure if you will be participating Alexandra but I went ahead and picked a book for you anyway. I chose Daughter of Smoke & Bone as it was the one that drew me in the most. I really hope you enjoy it! :)

message 77: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 665 comments Thank you very much, Lisa! I was secretly hoping for this one :-)... If I can not participate in the Toppler, I will read it anyway this weekend...

Is use numpty in a fun way when someone does something funnily stupid, its not meant to offend.

message 81: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments No, you've not got it wrong Connie. I love the word numpty!

As Sharon said, you mainly hear it in jest.

message 82: by [deleted user] (new)

Connie, I hereby challenge you to use the (fab) word numpty in your conversation in the next 24 hours. Only by using words do they live.

teeheehee.

I'm in a good mood today, so you're welcome to participate :~) And the way I set up the methods, nothing was given away beforehand to give you an advantage.

message 84: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I will attempt the word of the day...

One of my clients ran out of blank cheques and I ran some over to her. She took one look at the cheques I handed her and said, "I don't think I can use these." They were cheques for another company. I guess I'm the numpty one today.

message 85: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte Durkin | 46 comments I got the shortest book, which means I'll be reading Story of a Comfort Girl. Glad I have the short one first. I might actually get it done during the challenge!

I'm a day behind everyone else on checking in, but here I am now. My prescribed method is the one that Lisa got too - to pick a toppler participant and then that person picks what you will read from your list.

Pragya, will you pick a book for me? I liked your enthusiasm for this method so thought I'd ask you :)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I'm glad I am expanding your vocab everyone. Numpty fitted a little better though above, but another one for the day is the Aussie version of numpty, which is "dag".

But that one comes from a from an object that is not so nice to read while eating, so you know... forewarned.

Wow! Thank you so much for the honor, TJ. I love picking books for others to read. :)

I choose for you - The Ten Thousand Things. Hope you like it.

message 94: by Sam (new)

Sam (ecowitch) | 2354 comments I have a question, if we manage to read our first book how do we go about choosing the second? Do we use the same method as before?

Also since I had two options for my shortest read (my first chosen method) do I just read the other one for my second book and go for another method (decided by the dice roll)?

Can't answer the second bit Sam, but my understanding is you choose one of the other methods if you finish the first book, as you shouldn't have looked at them before, and therefore it's still "random".

Right Jmom?

message 97: by Ann (new)
