So its fiction/sci fi and the main character is a guy who is and actor. an dhe travels around-to different planets, worlds, etc to perform shakespeare plays to aliens. I specifically remember him not being free( hes a slave) and and he and the players are owned by spider like aliens. I also remember him having a one night stand with a girl not named at one of the stops. Oh, and I'm almost sure that all humans are enslaved, not just this group, and the slave owners are all the spider aliens. Hope someone finds this!

Two stories featuring Shakespeare and aliens are Fritz Leiber's "No Great Magic" (one of his Spiders vs. Snakes stories) and Anne McCaffrey's "Dramatic Mission" (one of her "Ship Who Sang" stories) but both feature a female heroine.
