I have the Gallaghers of Ardmore trilogy sitting on my end table waiting to be read! Found it at a goodwill when I was visiting my mother in law 2 months ago. Poor books :(

Dawn | 3250 comments Barnes and Noble is having a sale for a variety of book series, in the ebook format. I am contemplating getting the Highlander series by Maya Banks. Has anyone here read them?

Sheri Morell (smorell22) | 2165 comments I just started reading a new book Silent Snow by Steve Thayer. I had never heard of this author but so far it is a really good book. It is a fast read and his writing style is pretty good

Is it a mystery?

message 61: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1 comments I have been reading a YA author, Melina Marchetta, my favorites are Jellicoe Road and Saving Francesca. Written in red was also a fabulous read. And The Witness by Nora Roberts was really good.

message 63: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments I just finished reading The Highlander series and the first two books of The Montgomery's and Armstrongs by Maya Banks. I know I can get obsessed and read books quickly, but these, I just could not put down. I averaged one book a day ( and I think I slept somewhere in that 24 hours). Nook has the Highlander series on sale. Amazon has a deal for each book individually. The book is $7.99, but you can buy he audible for only $3.99 if you buy the Kindle.

I understand completely, Dawn. I read the McCabe Trilogy (her Highlander series) last year and gobbled them up back to back. I've read the new Scottish books as soon as I could get my hands on them. Great stories and Maya is a very good story teller.

message 65: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments Yes, I really did just inhale all 5 of these books. She needs to write faster. The next one doesn't come out until next year!

message 67: by Gabrielle (new)

Gabrielle (gabrielle23) | 314 comments The Maya Bank books I've read had too much graphic sex scenes which is a no-no for me because my daughter is only 13 and very very curious ... and refuses to understand why I don't allow her to read all my books :(

message 68: by Gabrielle (new)

Gabrielle (gabrielle23) | 314 comments I am reading Roxanne St. Claire and got really caught in the bulletcatcher series until it's slowly becoming boring for me :( I'm having a hard time finishing 'Hunt her Down'.. though i don't know why .. maybe because i'm reading the series continuously ...

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15062 comments Mod
Maya's roots are in erotica and in my interview with her last year, she was pretty clear that she considers the sex to be an important part of her stories.

message 70: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 1576 comments I read all the In Death books before but am now re-reading them back to back. Just finished Kindred in Death and will start Missing in Death. That's one of her novellas so will finish it today then I think I need to take a break from In Death. I love them but the cases and characters are starting to get mixed up. Has anyone read Nora's The Circle trilogy?
Morrigan's Cross
Dance of the Gods
Valley of Silence
Great books!

I've read that trilogy. I enjoyed it but must admit I had a hard time getting into the first book (first 60 pages) but once through that, all was good.

I did the same thing, Dawn. I started and finished the Highlander series in a couple of days. Awesome books...Maya is so good at sucking you into her books/series. I'm a big fan of her KGI series too.

I devoured them, too, but yeah... the sex scenes were pretty racy! And I read romance novels all the time! I didn't realize they were borderline erotica!! Eek!

The Circle Trilogy are the ONLY Nora Roberts books I've read! :P My mom recommended them to me when I was caught up in the vampire craze! Haha! The first one DOES start off kind of slow, and the writing style took some getting used to, for sure!

I think she dialed it down a little in the second series, Montgomerys and Armstrongs. The first series did have some pretty intense sex scenes, considering the heroines were virgins lol

I am going to have to read the Circle Trilogy now. I loved her Born Trilogy.

Sara, I think you'd enjoy the Born In Trilogy. Have you checked out the books?

FYI, Maya's roots are in erotic romance and she fundamentally believes the sex scenes are a critical part of any romance. I interviewed her last year and this was one of the questions I raised.

message 80: by Sara ♥ (last edited Jun 06, 2013 10:34AM) (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments No, but I have my mom's old Kindle and they're all on there! I'll have to read them!

And, I totally get Maya's POV, but to me, if sex scenes include things I would never do with my husband, that's too much for me! (I suppose I'm not very wild... poor hubby!)

message 83: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments So, I was searching for old Judith McNaught books on kindle and could not find them in ebook format anywhere. I researched why not, and found a fan site that suggested ePub. I not only found the books I was looking for, but a few NR books. The Born In Trilogy in there (for free), but you have to search under Nora Roberts, not the actual title. They are all three in one file. Unfortunately, I was not able to find any of the In Death series there.

Samantha (samswindle) | 23 comments Can't even imagine what all I'll read and reread this year!! I am always reading something--anything I can get my hands on!!
I'm working on reading JDR's In death series in order and reading along with the monthly book on the NR discussions site. I'm sure I'll throw some extra books in there too.

message 91: by Mary (new)

Mary | 208 comments Samantha, it's exactly the same for me as well! I've been trying to keep up with the In Death series and read other books and I've been so absorbed in my reading that because of that, it seems I've fallen behind on all the threads here!

However, most recently I've been focused mostly on Harlequins by Kay Stockham, like the Tulanes of Tennessee series and by Sarah Mayberry, such as Her Best Friend.

message 92: by Sharon (last edited Jul 08, 2013 08:14AM) (new)

Sharon Michael I recently 'found' a new series/author that has already been put on my re-read list and the main character is a female that has at least faint echos of Eve Dallas from the earlier books, in a modern action/adventure setting. Tough, competent ... damaged, but extremely effective in spite of the issues.

Somewhat darker and generally a little more grim, the romance is pretty limited, not overt as with the In Death series, but some In Death readers may like these books, as I do.

The Informationist

The Innocent

Just finished the second of the series and am waiting, none too patiently, for my hold to come up on the third at the library.

Thank you Sharon! The reviews look great. I'm going to try the first book.

message 94: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael The first book is a bit more action/black ops, more violence, etc. in Africa. The second book, which has a plot revolving around a religious cult doesn't have as much violence, but the authentic 'feel' of the cult background is chilling.

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments I'm working my way through the Barefoot Bay series by Roxanne St. Claire. Awesome writing and characters, the friendships between the 4 women in the series reminds me a lot of NR heroines. The heroes are also very loveable and droolworthy. I'm on book 3 now. Have to wait till October for book 4. I recommend the series to anyone who enjoy good CR. Though you might want to wait until the last book comes out to read them all one after another.
