Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments So you know the old saying "Don't judge a book by it cover". I was wondering if when choosing books to read do you go for the books that have stunning covers? Or perhaps you like taking chances? Does is a good-looking cover change anything for you?

And have you noticed...
The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games #1) by Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games has a plain cover but is a book loved by many people. Or say you have The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass The Selection which has an amazing cover, but some people really dislike (depends on who)The selection. So have you ever read a book the is amazing inside and out?

νєяαℓι∂αιиє | 26 comments The series I'm reading right now! The Spell of Rosette (Quantum Enchantment, #1) by Kim Falconer

My favourite series Wild Magic (Immortals, #1) by Tamora Pierce (Well, the other editions have better covers)

And my second favourite series The Ruins of Gorlan (Ranger's Apprentice, #1) by John Flanagan (Again, other editions have better covers)

:)

B. Tealya (tealya) | 65 comments For me, covers have some impact. If it has a terrible cover or one that looks exactly like all of the other books around it, I probably won't take a look. The cover doesn't need to be great, just decent enough to stand out from all of the ripoffs of whatever is most popular at the moment. If there hasn't ben some effort put into the book to make the cover at least a little different, I feel like they didn't bother to make the story original too. Maybe that's a little short sighted, but I don't want to read another Twilight/Harry Potter/Hunger Games/whatever clone, and if your book looks like that is what it is, I'll move on.

Kate (kaitlins16) Graceling (Graceling Realm, #1) by Kristin Cashore Fire (Graceling Realm, #2) by Kristin Cashore have great covers AND they're really good.

Elizabeth | 2466 comments I'm really bad about this when I go to a book store and I'm staring at all the books the cover needs to catch my attention but when someone recommends a book I read up on it before I make my decision

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments For me I guess covers aren't all that important but if it is really ugly then I would be hesistant to read it.

A lot of the time I get fooled by books with really effective covers. I pick up a book based on it's (uneccessarily hyped up) description and cover. Then I sit down to read it and I don't enjoy it. But then one the flip side I have read many books with really intriguiging covers that are fantastic!

Yes! I first picked up Graceling because of it's unique cover art.

Elizabeth | 2466 comments anyone else find it funny that don't judge a book by its cover is said all the time but never meant to be about a book

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments Yes! LOL I think the implied moral was to do with people. You know don't judge people until you reslly know them kinda thing.

Personally I don't feel guilty when judging a book by it's cover. Hahaha.

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments Ohhh and have you guys ever seen a book cover that is pure overkill? I can't think of any right now though. Like a cover that is has so much going on that it is OVERKILL. LOL, you know what I mean?

message 11: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) I know what you mean (can't think of a cover that is like that at the moment). How about the type of covers that you stay away from? There's certain types of covers, like if look cheap or old, I will stay away from them unless I hear something really good about them.

Elizabeth | 2466 comments The covers that look like they belong on a children's book I don't even give a second look unless someone tells me they are good

Grace | 148 comments The book Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, #1) by Kami Garcia has a plain cover(at least the edition I read did) but I loved it.

The book Proxies by Laura J. Mixon has a pretty cool cover but I could never finish it.

I don't look at books with covers that have couples in tacky poses or the ones that look like they could be a Harliquine romance novel.

message 15: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments Yea, LOL. Our parents ask us what we are reading sometimes, we just casual say "nothing". LOL

I totally agree if a cover is tack like you said or really cliche I tend to not even give it a second glance.

message 17: by Lade (new)

Lade (ladet) covers are important. almost as important as titles. a good cover grabs your attention. I feel like I should be a able to guess what the book is about just from the cover and title.
but I don't judge books by covers. I would have skipped More Than This by Jay McLean
