Widgets - Yes or No?

I use a few widgets. I like to keep a list of all the books I have to read, plus a list of all the books I have read on my sidebar. I have a quote of the day widget, and my "follow me" "about me" and "subscribe" but I think the last three are pretty common.
I had the same experience in switching from blogger to wordpress, I thought it was very strange that the widgets didn't work and they weren't very clear about it. I am holding out for the paid/hosted version, which I believe allows for a lot of customization, including widgets and a lot of plug ins.

I love how much I have learned over the last year about blogs and blogging.

I like changing my blog and trying out new features also-I use mostly the google widgets not 3rd party
I have the Goodreads widget on my blog. Take a look at http://worddreams.wordpress.com. I use the narrow book list of WordDreams and the wide one on http://askatechteacher.wordpress.com. Is that what you mean? It was a bit tricky to get them installed correctly.
Loving the widgets! At least the ones that actually work on windows live. I'm seriously thinking about moving my blog elsewhere. Javascript is not supported by live.com. :/
I wonder why it seems wordpress.com gets the short end of the stick with these widgets??? it's kinda frustrating..
I actually don't use very many...for some reason they never look quite right on my blog, even though I love seeing them on other people's! I have the basics...About Me, Follow Me, and Archive but I haven't found any others I really wanted to use. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places--are there any that you particularly like?
Hi Anna. The goodreads widget is actually very nice. Looks great on the blog. Unfortunately I can't use the main one because it's flash. Check it out.
I have 3 widgets on my blog at the moment: the GoodReads widget, a Twitter widget and a DandyID widget that displays all the social networking and apps websites that I have an account on =) I find them pretty handy =)
Hi all, Wordpress.com has a policy where third-party Java script (like some widgets) isn't allowed for security reasons.
However, this can be solved -and you can gain greater control over your blog- by converting to a paid Wordpress.org (not .COM) blog on a self-hosted server (like Go Daddy).
My book blog is the basis of an online income for me -so I want maximum control over content and layout for my blog. Want proof? Checkout my blog: http://desertbookchick.com
I love adding fuzzy dice to my blog and I have a few widgets. One is the "fish" widget (you can even feed them!) and the other is a "stingray" widget. I also have a really cute movie of a kitten popping in and out of a cup.I used to have a widget called "Slap the Dildo" (I run a sex blog) but now I can't find the code. Been thinking of putting that one back up. It's downright hypnotic. :)
Here's my blog: The Countess

Are widgets a good thing or a bad thing?
