Welcome, Grace. I think you will enjoy this group.
I had the pleasure of meeting several Aussies many years ago, while serving in the military. I thought they talked funny - they thought I talked funny. We got along great.
I am a 67 year-old widower. You woudn't, by chance, be in a position to get me a date with Olivia Newton John, would you?

message 863: by Grace (new)

Grace Hamilton | 50 comments Morning Jim. Sorry mate, don't know Ms Newton John personally, but if you were here for R&R in the seventies I could've met you, I was in the military as well, btw we don't talk funny just strine.....

message 866: by Hank (new)

Hank Kirton | 3 comments Hello. My name is Hank. I've been reading mostly postmodern novels lately (Pynchon, Barth, Wallace) but I also dig genre fiction at times (Straub, Harris, Leonard). Thank you.

message 867: by T.N. (new)

T.N. Jones (the_writerjones) | 4 comments Hello everyone :) Tomara here... T is good too.. new to the group and look forward to interacting with you all. I'm a writer and have released some novels this year and am in the middle of writing my third which seems like its taking forever. But anyways I love romance, young adult, new adult, but because of my insanely overactive imagination I tend to steer clear of horror for fear of what my dreams may bring. lol but nice to meet y'all :)

message 869: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Stuart | 33 comments Hi Christopher
This is the first group I've joined so I'm feeling my way a bit. I write romantic suspense, but I enjoy reading all sorts of books. My favourites, in any genre, are those that take me into a world I know little about. I use theatre, but novels I like can be set anywhere, from a horse-racing background to a period in history with which I'm unfamiliar.

message 870: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Hiday | 13 comments This is my first experience with a Goodreads group. I'm published in contemporary romance but am an eclectic reader. After 15 years of being the instructor for a community college writing workshop, I've read and heard a wealth of stories. Am looking forward to interesting conversations with fellow authors.

message 871: by BrookLynne (new)

BrookLynne Winters (bwinters) Hey there! I'm BrookLynne ad I am an insane reader! LOL! I read anything and everything I can get my hands on and can devour four hundred page books in a night. I love fantasy, a phenomenal western, and a good literary read and I have consumed most of the classics The Great Gatsby and The Count of Monte Cristo are my favorite.) Recently I discovered Chevy Stevens (author of Still Missing and Never Knowing) ad I love her books. I also enjoy good suspense and crime. On top of reading almost everything - I just want it to have a solid and intriguing plot - I am an author and write almost as much as I read. This looks like the perfect group for me and I look forward to being part of it.

message 872: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Porter (trolltails) | 26 comments Hello everyone. I love to read, and I can't understand people who never read. It is my ticket to a another world, another time, another place.
I prefer suspense, thrillers, fantasy, and horror. If I had to pick a genre that I don't like, it would be romance. Just not for me. I must have a missing gene.
At any rate, I like to source books on my own, but once I find an author I love, I quickly devour every word.
One last thing, and it doesn't seem to be against the rules, I also write fantasy.
Let's have some fun.

message 873: by Jeffrey (new)

Jeffrey Marshall (jmarsh17) | 10 comments Hi. I'm a lifelong reader with a long list of "classics" that I read before age 25, when the real world set in... fewer books read since then, but I'm an eclectic reader with an interest in history, non-fiction, crime thrillers and adventure stories, real or fictional.
Yes, I'm also a Goodreads author with a book out, a historical novel that's searchable under my name, Jeffrey Marshall. I won't flog it, but Amazon reviwers have been very high on it! Ok, no more promotion... hope you're enjoying a good book today.

message 874: by Tracy (new)

Tracy Shawn (goodreadscomuser_tracyshawn) | 2 comments "A Writer's Guide to Characterization" is a great handbook for authors of all genres. With easy-to-read descriptions of archetypes and heroic journeys, this book teaches writers how to create more vivid characters, compelling character arcs, and all-around more meaningful stories. As an author working on my second novel, "A Writer's Guide to Characterization" is not only teaching me how to create more interesting characters, but is also helping me feel more excited about the whole writing process!

message 875: by David (new)

David | 4 comments Hi - I am a voracious reader of fiction and non-fiction. I just moved house within London, and finding space for all the books was a major issue--but I can't bring myself to get rid of many. Magical realism is probably my favorite fiction genre--Murakami, Marquez, etc. I have been on Goodreads for some time under my real name and have just published my first novel The Deal under this pseudonym David Zen (to keep it separate from my business as a lawyer and investor). I promise to limit discussion of my own work to the Author Zone.

message 876: by Beth (new)

Beth Brown | 3 comments Hi everyone, I’m Beth. I love, love, love to read and enjoy both fiction and nonfiction. I am especially drawn to literary fiction, YA, mysteries, and historical fiction. There’s nothing better than a book with lots of twists and turns and surprises. Reading alongside my kids over the years, I’ve come to enjoy everything from a Newbery Medal winner to a good mystery to intriguing nonfiction. I am also an author. After many years of publishing nonfiction, I have published my first novel, a YA literary sci-fi.

message 877: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Seager (stephenseager) | 2 comments HI,
My name is Stephen Seager. I'm a published author. My new book "Behind the Gates of Gomorrah, a Year with the Criminally Insane," will be released Sept. 16th by Simon and Shuster with tour to follow. My favorite books are Salinger's, "Catcher in the Rye," Harper Lee's, "To Kill a Mockingbird," Joan Didion's "White Album," and Hs Thompson's "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." New favorite is Wiley Cash. Please take Cormac McCarthy with you when you leave...lol

message 878: by Cherie (new)

Cherie Colyer | 5 comments Hi everyone. I'm Cherie Colyer, author of three YA paranormal romance/thrillers, and I'm currently working on a YA realistic fiction novel. It's probably no surprise that my favorite genre is YA. I'll give just about any YA book a try. I also enjoy paranormal, fantasy, some suspense and books that put a new twist on lore or fairy tales.

message 879: by The book Recluse (new)

Susan Catalano (susancatalano) | 19 comments Hi, I'm Susan. I'm a writer and a reader. I love fantasy-historical, paranormal, epic, YA, dystopian, all fantasy really. I don't limit myself to one genre, but my bookshelf is pretty biased towards fantasy. Heck, I live in the real world.

message 886: by Todd (new)

Todd Stockwell | 1 comments Hey All:
Thanks for having me. Currently reading The Dog Stars (Peter Heller). What a poet of the apocalypse. I go back and forth between mostly literary fiction and historical non-fiction. Huge Vonnegut fan. I wrote a black comedy with a Christian bent. Thanks again.

message 887: by Harvey (new)

Harvey | 1 comments Hi everyone!

I'm Harvey. I read non-fiction to keep myself informed and curious, fiction to get lost in someone else's life and be inspired. I especially like reading books that later become motion pictures (they must've been THAT good).

The three most recently read books:
-Alice Munro's selection of her best stories
-The Girl with a Pearl Earring
-Devil in the White City.

Looking forward to all the challenges, discussions, and places this group will take me!

message 890: by Amy (new)

Amy | 1 comments Hi all, I love to read, and will pretty much read anything that is interesting and keeps me entertained. I mostly read supernatural romance lately, but I like historical fiction (if its not like a dry history lesson), thrillers, and mysteries.

Amy

Amy Flint | 7 comments Hi All

My name is Amy Flint I have recently joined GR – I’m still finding my way around the site!

I don't have a favourite genre, it depends what mood I'm in as to what I fancy reading.

I'm looking forward to being a member of the group.

message 895: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello everyone! My name is Maggie, and I have ben an avid bookworm my whole life. :) I recently became engaged, and my fiancee built me my very own library along three walls of our living room, so I am looking for recommendations for books to fill it! I will read pretty much anything, though I am a sucker for good historical fiction. If you have any essential books you couldn't live without, let me know the title so I can add them to my list. Thanks for all your help!

message 896: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) Welcome Maggie! Kudos to your fiancee! I would love built ins!

message 897: by Jax (new)

Jax Spenser (jaxspenser) | 3 comments Hi all!

I too am an author with a first time offering, HIDE 1: Untethered coming out this month. It's a YA scifi/horror and it's sure to get under your skin. :) Here to network, make new friends, reach out to readers... oh, I also have a giveaway going on this month via Goodreads. Check out my author page!

message 898: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Robins (rachel_robins) | 2 comments Hello.

Your group here caught my eye so I thought I'd pop in to say hi.

My name is Rachel, and I love reading, crafts, unicorns, and the J-man. I've some small background in writing, I just finished an MFA in writing popular fiction, but sadly, I've no book in digestible format to tout. :'(

I've mostly dabbled in urban fantasy, horror and comedy, but lately I keep finding myself reading my biggest guilty pleasure--period romance. Them English ladies find themselves in the most scandalous situations, don't they?

Anyhoo, I hope to make some friends, get some good tips on what to read next, and possibly voice some strong opinions on the absolutely fluffiest of subject matter. :) Thanks for having me!
