Hi Mr. Flenniken, Try Jennifer Thomas' book " A Different Light - The Vietnam War from a Woman's Point of View". It's historical in that it was taken from Jenny's daily diary while she was stationed in Da Nang, So. Vietnam from Oct. 1967 to Oct. 1968. It may not be a mystery but it is historical. Let me know how you like it.

Xavier wrote: "Hi Pam, Ben, Jeremy, Keith, Benjamin, and A"Thanks Xavier,
By the way, A stands for Adrian, I mean stands... When I opened my Goodreads profile I must have had a glass too many, but I blame the keyboard, and didn't finish tipping my name (doh). I realised it too late...
Now I've become a monosyllable...

Hi Billy,
I was really interested to read your message as your description of novels in which 'the characters happen to be gay' sums up exactly how I describe my novel, Duende. For me, it's not a 'gay' novel. It's a love story between 2 people in the run-up to the Spanish Civil War. These 2 people just happen to be men, albeit at a time when being openly gay was pretty much impossible. But the love between them is simply about love. I never think of Duende as a 'gay' novel. It's a story in which love plays a crucial part throughout.
Thanks for your message and take care

Hello,My name is Adriano, but friends call me Ade.
I have waited a bit to introduce myself, but I have been reading interestinh posts in this forum (don't worry, I haven't done it because I'm a secret agent, just for other reasons).
My literary passions? Well, I tend to go for the classics. I love poetry, especially epic poetry, Literary Theory, the Modernists, Medieval and Classical Literature. I am lucky, very much so, as I can read in quite a few languages, especially ancient languages. In fact, Latin is one of my great loves, as is Anglo-Saxon (I call the language Anglo-Saxon and not Old English, as most people would do, simply because calling it with the latter name is for me a way of reading the past through the eyes of the present, which is not wrong, but short-sighted and 'ageist' if it becomes the only way we look at the world).
I also love History, Art, Philosophy, and Music.
When it comes to novels, I would not be able to say which 'genre' I prefer. To be totally honest, I believe the word genre is nowadays used as a misnomer for format, sometimes even theme, but more on that maybe later.
I am also a string believer in Human Rights, and am against any form of discrimination as a corollary.

Hello Ceri,
Thanks. I have found some very interesting threads here, for example the one on Literary Fiction, which is very in depth.
Hey everyone! My name is Suzan, I'm 22 years old and I'm a student of English language and culture, hopefully graduating this year. Next year I'll hopefully be doing a Master's degree in English literature. Needless to say, I love reading!
Hello ! Thanks so much for the invite. I've been a huge reader since I was a kid and a closet writer pretty much my whole life. Just published my first book in December. I write/read fantasy (epic & urban), and enjoy sci-fi, horror, and historical fiction. But I would read pretty much any fiction if the story strikes my interest.
Movies & TV go the same way as my reading. I'm partial to anything with a sci-fi/fantasy or supernatural slant. But it's really the characters that draw me in more than the genre. Which I guess is why I still miss Firefly.
My list of favorite books is too long to even keep track of anymore, but Mists of Avalon & Gone With The Wind are at the top.
I'm a night owl, I watch too much TV, drink to much coffee-and not near enough wine :)
Looking forward to checking out the group :)

Hi Ade and lovely to read your post. I'm particularly interested in your love of languages as well as your passion for art, history, philosophy...i hope this doesn't sound presumptuous but you might be interested in my novel, Duende. It embraces a whole host of ideas about art and philosophy and it's a historical novel set in the run-up to the Spanish Civil War. It's available on Amazon and I think (or hope!) it might be something you'd enjoy. Take care and thanks for your lovely post (Lizzie)

Hello Lizzie,
Yes, I'm interested and no, it doesn't sound pretentious..
I am 'a bit behind' with all my reading, but I will certainly read it.

Hi Ade,Thanks very much for showing an interest in the book. Thank you :) Hope you enjoy it when you do get the time and take care.
All the very best

Hello all! My name is Matt. Like many of us I'm an aspiring author, but I do it more for the love of writing than anything else. My favorite authors include Bukowski, Thompson, Steinbeck, Landolfi, Mann, amongst many others. Just wanted to stop in and say hello!
Greetings! I love Science Fiction, Fantasy, Paranormal, Horror and some Historical Fiction. I am also very much into poetry and short stories for those times when I don't have the time to commit to longer novels. My day job as a Lease Abstractor takes up a great deal of my time, but it's mostly the long commute (an hour or more each way), but my passions are art and creativity in all its forms whether painting, writing, poetry, etc., and I dabble in a little of everything.
Great to be here.
Hi, I'm Peter. My reading is across genres -from fantasy to romance to murder mysteries and historical fiction. I also read a fair amount of non-fiction particularly on spirituality and personal growth and development, and I've been accused of being addicted to current affairs.
HI, My name is Carole P. Roman and I am a children's book author who both loves to read and review books. I will read anything. I also love to help indie, self published authors catch a break. I have read some really amazing books written by people that others will not give a chance. Some of them include Michael Phillip Cash, Lynn Stewart,Lynn Dempsey,Talia Haven,Beth Capodanno,Terri L. Rollins, and so many others. I like to feel that perhaps I am giving the next great writer the chance to be heard. As a self published author, I have met a wall of resistance to getting my work out there. Some books have been richer in their messages than many of the big house publications, and will not be read simply because these authors don't have the money to promote. So, I like to pay it forward, hoping that their product will find a place to grow and be successful.Nice to meet you all.
Hi, I'm Ben.I'm new to GR and still just settling in. I love books and mysteries, sci-fi, thriller, contemporary fiction, classics, adventure, historical, great love stories - but read just about everything.
Glad to connect with everyone. Feel free to add me!
Hello! My name is Michael and I live in San Miguel de Allende MX as an ex-pat. My reading is very eclectic. Books are my life. Right now I'm reading Aristotle's Poetics, Book Three The Storm of Swords, The Case of the Second Seance. Have posted several reviews on GRs. Look forward to participating in group. As Michael Brown, I'm the author of The Consecration of Jacob Jordaens, first in the Paradise War Series, and just published on Amazon, iTunes, etc. It is a paranormal thriller: a coming of age of the protagonist in a wealthy Rhode Island family involved with child sex trafficking.
Hi, I'm Ash, I enjoy a mix of modern fiction and classics but recently I've been reading a lot of YA novels. I like programmes with a supernatural premise like Buffy. Looking forward to some good discussions!
Hi: I'm the founder/ director of the Anaphora Literary Press (http://anaphoraliterary.com). I taught college English for 3 years, before switching to publishing, and I'm now attempting to become a professional writer with my first novel... which will not be mentioned here to avoid self-promotion in the intro...
Hello, everyone.I'm Laura from Germany and not tied to any genre, generally (although there are tendencies). The tone does it for me, be it cynical, laconic, snarky (I do prefer the British in this department), witty, ... I love being sucked in by 'the right words'. Cathartic writing, mostly poems, helped me through adolescence. Apart from good advice I just started writing my first novel. Looking forward to great discussions.
If you’re interested in knowing more about me, my writing, my first YA Paranormal/Time Travel/First romance novel entitled “I Kissed a Ghost”; check out my latest interview http://tinyurl.com/ldslcwjI’d love to read your comments.
Hi guys, my name is Turhan Halil.I'm a 'new' reader of books. What I mean by that is, up until mid-way through last year, I hadn't read a book since being in secondary school (high school) in England, and that was a looong time ago.
That said, I have been reading articles online and in magazines, pretty much every second I had the time to do so, so yes, I love reading.
I'm so new at this that I haven't as yet developed any favorite authors, but the genre I currently do enjoy is fantasy, paranormal etc, it has to be character driven and with a good splash of romance woven into the story.
My aspiration is to review and learn how to become a better author.
Thanks so much for providing this place, where we can all learn from each other.
Hello everyone. I was skimming through groups and came upon this one. What caught my eye was that one of the currently reading books shown was The Hunt for Red October. Wow, I haven't read that book in years and it made me want to go find it on Amazon and re-read it.
Hi everyone! I have just joined as an author and loving this site already. Looking forward to finding new reads and new friends! Adrian
I read a lot, a truly eclectic mixture Fiction General fiction, family driven fiction, S.F(not sci-fi) Mystery, suspense, thriller Folklore. Non fiction- psychology, genetics, environmental, medicine and Travel Adventure.Fiction- These must have good character interaction, realistic situations, thorough clear plots, consistent structure, good language use and not overly descriptive except where it is vital for something very unusual. If it does not suit me then I am unable to complete reading, more importantly I must have chosen it incorrectly!
I am looking for appropriate REVIEWERS for MY NOVELS so any offers in that regard, will be greatly appreciated.
Hi! My name is Rao (as you can read it above). I love to read books, but just for the sake of writing.I want to become a writer, but I am a wee bit dubious about my choice because people say that seldom does a writers prospers, when he endeavors to impart his story in second language (I mean English is my second language).
However, I am glad to join this grope. I love grope discussion and healthy debates.
Hi, I'm Sandy and I just discovered this group although I've been a member of Goodreads for several years now. I write women's fiction, but I have a new novel coming out soon from Astraea Press that is an alternate history with a little paranormal tossed in. I love to read almost any genre except erotic. Currently reading Diana Gabaldon's latest, "Written in My Own Heart's BLood."
Hello, I'm Jill. I'm an author, just like y'all. I write erotica with a twist, and have a naughty attitude to everything. I love to read, bake, and my guilty pleasure is sitting on my bum for hours and hours, while making up all kinds of wicked things to entertain you with.
