I had a bipolar client who wrote some pretty amazing poetry. They were epic poems that she would recite from memory, with her eyes closed.
I just finished writing a memoir of my career as a psychotherapist. My toughest book yet because my goal was to blend narrative, insight, and humor.MiXED NUTS or What I've Learned Practicing Psychotherapy

Hi, Rick. Your books looks very interesting. I have not seen enough books by counselors sharing the insights a life of helping others untangle their issues has provided them.

Have you written any yourself? Are you retired from counseling?

Have you written any yourself? Are you retired from counseling?"
Yes, I retired from counseling. Now I m counseling counselors via the books we publish at Depth Of View Publishing. I have written a number of books, some of which DOV will be publishing. I wrote a book on THE DREAM AND THE DREAMER. I have written a book that describes the depth psychology approach I pioneered (Conductive Reasoning), in which the unconscious mind is viewed as being a providential factor, and not the compensatory factor we were taught it is, and how to utilize its providence (THE RAIN IN SPAIN).
I am currently writing a series of books that psychologically analyze the text of major religious and philosophical books, such as, the Mahabharata, the Book of Revelation, The Poetry of Hafez, Nietzsche’s The Antichrist, and some short books on topics such as the psychological analysis of fairytales.

I'm a student of psychology and I'm currently pursuing my Master's in Clinical Psychology. I look forward to interacting with you'll :)

Ah yes, right you are :) Well we're working on a skit for Schizophrenia day. Bringing about awareness and breaking a few myths is the goal. We're going to perform it for the patients and their families , in the hospital. Anything important that you think will help our cause? I'd love to take in your inputs :)

I interned at a mental hospital for two years. Most of my patients were paranoid schizophrenic. For the rest of my career, though I specialized in Anxiety Disorders and PTSD, I always had at least one outpatient client with paranoid schizophrenia.
If I can be of any help (specific questions), just ask. :-)

Thank you, I'd love to learn more from you.
Hello James ! Welcome to the group :)

Thank you, I'd love to learn more from you.
Anytime I can be of help! I'm glad your skit went well.

Have you read "Man's search for meaning" by Viktor Frankl?"
Yep. Lots of wisdom re: trauma and existential therapy.

That's wonderful- the part where you donated all those books, I mean :)
Haha, yeah! I'd always keep it too :D

Hey :D

Im practically new at this group dinamic, searching to have some dialogue about my lectures, yours, your work and also mine.

Thank you for this invitation, Jonathan! I just discovered how to find my way here-the internet still challenges. I'm a psychotherapist and author in private practice in Dallas, Tx and have a great deal of interest in hearing about others' in my field. Despite almost 40 years, there's always something new to learn.
I am in a group on Linkedin, Links for Shrinks, which I find very thought provoking and informative. Outside of work, I enjoy my two grown sons, two grandkids, C&W dancing and Texas Hold 'Em!

Newbie here... my name is Heather, I'm 22 and completing a degree in Psychology hoping to continue on to a masters in developmental/abnormal psychology and eventually practice clinically :)
Book clubs are a brand new thing to me...
I guess I'm just here for some guidance really.. have recently been diagnosed with and began treatment for anxiety and depression and so have suffered a MASSIVE knock to both my motivations and confidence...
Hoping seeing some of you passionate lot discuss something relative to my own interests will give me the boot up the bum I need to keep on keeping on!!!
Looking forward to doing a lot of lurking lol...

Cheers!

I'm Luis Trivino I am American Indian/Hispanic, a War Veteran, Father and Husband.
My wife has Border Line Personality disorder (BPD), PTSD, Depression and Anxiety. I suffer from PTSD and Bipolar I. My wife went through some delusional states when she had a change in her medicines, the stress of trauma therapy and anxiety all took hold of her at once causing a BPD Split. During this whole phase she asked how I could love her and be married to someone "So broken?".
In response during a Bipolar manic while trying to control and avoid my PTSD triggers I wrote a book in 23 hours detailing all of my traumas and how I strive to work at being normal since I was a child. My wife said we have a "Notebook of Love" so I write in hopes my notebook of love will bring her back to reality. That's why it is titled as "A Notebook of Love: My story on Mental Health".
I write it from a Male perspective. We men grow up as young boys being told "Be strong, be a man". When we run into stressful situations we lack the tools to solve problems. In turn it affects our mental well being, our relationships, and leads to violence, addiction and the list can go on. Simply because we are being dismissed as "He is a man, he will figure it out". because if this mentality are men be a a major issue in relationships? Is being a man another way of saying he is a narcissist? Veterans we tend to think differently and PTSD only complicates the issues, I discuss my own issues and resolve that have helped me and my marriage.
As I go through my whole story from my beginning to my present I detail everything with my self analysis and exercises I have learned to "Be normal". With all of this I wish to promote the decriminalization of any mental illness, encourage men to make their mental health a priority to better ourselves, our relationships and community.
In order to break the stigma we have to bring it all into the open, including us men.
Thank you
Luis
