Elizabeth would be my favorite heroine, but I'm stuck between Wentworth and Darcy! :)

Anne from persuasion is definitely my favorite possibly because I was single and about her age when I read the book and I'm definitely more like her than Elizabeth. I would say that Knightly from Emma is my favorite leading man so far, but he definitely shows lack of judgement in marrying Emma.
Henry Tilney manages to combine goodness and humor in a way that none of the other leading men do regularly. As for the heroines, Elinor probably seems the best because of the contrast with her sister, who is by far my least favorite. Still, a man really can't go wrong with either Lizzy or Anne, and Emma certainly has her charms, while I'd have to wait to see what Catherine grows up into before really passing judgement on her.
I love Anne Elliot and Elizabeth Bennett, Knightley and Darcy; it's so hard to choose, and who can resist Emma?
I started out loving Pride and Prejudice but as I have gotten older, Persuasion is my go to Austen. I am enamored with all things Wentworth.
Henry Tilney is my favorite leading man. So charming. As for leading ladies - I probably have to go with Elizabeth. It almost feels like a cliche, but she's the gal you want for a friend.
Great question!
Miss Anne Eliot from Persuasion is my favorite Austen heroine. Of course, Elizabeth is wonderful and Emma is an enigmatic character that I love and hate, but I love Persuasion. And I believe Captain Wentworth is a very worthy male character. He is similar or comparable to Darcy, so I think Austen had a thing for hard men. But I can't blame her for that they are more interesting and more worth admiring. :)
It's between Anne Elliot and Elinor when it comes to the girls, and I like Wentworth and Cournel Brandon for the men (although part of my choice for Cournel Brandon has resulted from my love of Alan Rickman's portrayal of him in the movie).
Definitely Anne Elliot when we talk about women. About men it is more difficult because I love Darcy more than anyone but Wentworth is so romantic and in love that it is impossible not to love him. Every time I read "Persuasion" or just think about him I get confused about my favorite hero! I guess it will be always that way!
Of course nobody replace with Darcy but I love Mr. Knightley so much. I wish my life were similar with Emma unfortenately it is impossible. Nonetheless I love Emma and Knightley couple
Anne is my favorite female protagonist, though I love Fanny Price as well. I almost said that Knightley was my favorite leading man, but he's just too perfect. I love Wentworth as well, but I think that Edmund may be my favorite leading male. In fact, I know that he is.
Elizabeth is my fav. heroine, mostly because I relate to her. I am very much like her in many ways (not all good). And Knightley is my fav. hero. He is so funny, kind, compassionate, generous, mature, and dependable. Not perfect though (who wants to be criticized all the time like he does to Emma?).

I am not surprised that most of us stick to Elizabeth but I am surprised that so manyof us admire Mr Knightly the most. I also think he is too good for Emma I am very fond of Anne and Fanny and in my heart am a little fond of Mary Crawford she did have sone good traits that were not given a chance to develope
It's a toss up.... I love the steadfastness of Captain Wentworth in Persuasion. But Mister Knightly is a good man who brings the best out in Emma. And Colonel Brandon has a sense on honor that is so unimpeachable...sigh, it's a toss up. As for heroines...Anne Elliot hands down:) Persuasion is one of my favorite books.
Emma is my fav protagonist although she s full of flaws, but i like how she evolves in the end thanks to the power of love !and I LIKE Mr. Darcy character
Anne Eliot, from Persuasion, hands down is my favourite protagonist. I suppose Mr. Darcy has to win for best leading male.
Darcy is one of my favorite characters in all of literature, so of course I pick him. I love Anne Eliot, too, because she is strong and independent, even for an Austen character, but Elinor Dashwood would be second.
Anne Elliot or Elinor Dashwood for female characters. I like all the men, of course, but favor Mr. Knightly and Captain Wentworth... and naturally Colonel Brandon!
My favorite Jane Austen man is Mr. Knightly and my favorite Austen heroine is probably Elizabeth Bennet.
If I have to name the one nearest to perfection, I'd have to say Anne Eliot, but my personal favourites are Elizabeth Bennet, because of her liveliness, and the charming Emma Woodhouse. Among the male characters, if I had to choose one, I'd go with Mr. Knightly. Mr. Darcy is a close second. Edmund and Fanny are the least favourite ones...
Elinor Dashwood is my favorite of the ladies and Mr. Knightley for the men. However, I have a soft spot for Mr. Bennet.
Henry Tilney mightn't have Mr Darcy's estate, but he's got a sense of humour which is very attractive thing to posess. I really need to read Emma for a better look at Mr KnightleyI think I like Anne Elliott, possibly cos I'm an older spinster with an if-only.
My favorite Austen book is Emma, thus my favorite characters are Emma and Mr. Knightley. What I love about her, is that she is not desperate to marry, unlike other Austen leading ladies. It made the whole novel very refreshing. (Of all Austen books I read this one last.) She is beautiful and easy-going, the perfect fantasy for me. And she is paired with a sensible, but very shy man. Their characters compliment each other, and when it comes to love it doesn't get any better than that.
In Sense in Sensibility I love Marianne and her older man. I love the way Jane gave him a second chance at love. How wonderful. Everyone who strikes out the first should get a second chance, especially when they are as honorable as he was.ty
Henry Tilney just because he wasn't really looking for love, but fell in love anyway. And his charm and sense of humor (and JJ Field:) all make him my favorite of Austen's men. As for the women, I like the 2 Eleanors. I like the one from Sense and Sensibility because she steps up by holding everything together even though her heart is breaking as well and her passion when everything comes to light. I like Henry's sister in Northanger Abbey for holding out for her true love (and for secretly meeting him) and for her willingness to be a friend and forgive Catherine.
My favourite leading character is Anne Elliot. I do not have a favourite leading man but I have developed a respect for Colonel Brandon. I like Henry Tilney especially his mouth.
My favourite female character is Emma. I love the complexity of her character and that she really does experience growth. My favourite male character was my first character crush... and I adore him- as trite as it might seem- Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy.
Eliza, at the moment is my favorite protagonist because she is the kind of woman that tells the truth, all of the time regardless of how peers feel about it. That quality, the ability to be honest and uncensored is difficult to find in a friend! I appreciate her disregard of social moors and acceptable behavior as well. Anne Elliot is a close second, only because she is written as antagonist as well?As for male lead, thats a tough one! Captain Wentworth is always a good choice because he is so divisive. I like Darcy even though he is a pompous elitist. The strong, shy silent type is always appealing I suppose!
Darcy and Mr. Knightly are favorite males. Elizabeth Bennett is my favorite female.I do have a question for the Persuasion fans, did your love of the two main characters come solely from the book or did the movie influence your love of it? I love all Austen's works, but I have to admit Persuasion comes in at number four or five if I had to rank order them.

I don't particularly enjoy either of the movies, so my love for Anne and Fred purely stems from the book versions of them.

The books. I had some issues with the films but the series was done very well.
Marianne Dashwood(Team Marianne!!) and George Knightley(Lol, sadly I'm more like John Knightley than George Knightley).http://community.sparknotes.com/2010/...
Emma is my fev character. The book is her journey of growing up and i am head over heels for Mr. Darcy...though Mr. Knightly comes a close second
Best guy goes to either Mr Darcy for being so much larger than life or the guy from Northanger abbey who knows all about cloth and dresses. He was less grand than Darcy, but he was fun as well.Best girl has to go to the girl from Northanger. She more fun than Lizzy.
Elizabeth and Anne are my favorite female leads and their leading men, Darcy and Wentworth are my favorite men. I love how strong Elizabeth' s character is and how attentive Darcy's character grows to be, but there is something about redemption and second chances that just tugs at my heart strings.
Nicole D. wrote: "Favorite heroine is Elizabeth Bennet or Fanny Price. My favorite hero is Colonel Brandon.*swoon*"I always thought I was a Capt Wentworth but when I read your remark it was a lightbulb moment. Oh yes. Def Colonel Brandon. And so wasted on Marianne who annoys me only slightly less than Emma.
Ooh, good question! It's hard to pick just one of each, Jane Austen wrote such wonderful and strong characters. I think Anne Elliot from Persuasion is probably first, with Elizabeth Bennet coming in a very close second. Then Wentworth for the leading man, Mr. Darcy and Mr. Knightly tie for second.
Anne and Wentworth! Persuasion was definitely my favorite of the Austen novels that I have read so far. :)
Elizabeth Bennet is intelligent, independent, realistic, kind and leagues ahead of many modern heroines(in my own opinion, no stonings).Well, otherwise than P&P I've just read Emma, Northanger Abbey, & Persuasion...
Emma is a good old-fashioned busybody to rival Rachel Lynde, Catherine Morland is fun and an actual good person too! but still, I have to stick with Lizzy.
As for the leading man that goes for Henry Tilney, possessing the distinction of being my favorite Regency hero ever, and having a sense of humor to boot. :D.
He is probably tied with Darcy, however. I should read Pride and Prejudice again...
