Keeping up with VF w/out GR?

So right now I'm going through a bit of an ethical debate with myself if I stay with Goodreads. I don't know if anyone else in this group is having the same or related dilemmas about if they're staying... but what are thoughts about staying up with the group?

I'm not kidding when I say that the forum discussions in this group are the biggest draw of this site for me.

I follow the Google + group, though it doesn't have the same forum richness. Is there any presence of VFers on other social book sites?

I know there's a decent chance nothing overtly will change for awhile... but I have a long list of personal and ethical reasons why I am not sure I want to stay on this site now that Amazon has purchased it. If I stay it is only to follow this group.

Whoops I did not finish my sentence. I have started to follow a lot of VF on twitter but it isn't the same.

Let's hope that things don't change too much here on Good Reads & continue to buy books at local bookstores.

I can understand following your conscience and you should do what you feel you should do.

I'm going to just see what happens. People are free to buy books wherever they choose and that may mean not following a link at Goodreads. But I'm here for the discussion and insights and as long as that continues I'll be happy.

I am going to wait and see.
Amazon has bought other companies in the past and they haven't changed them. (i.e. Zappos). Amazon has left companies untouched and says they will not touch Goodreads. (I've been reading a lot on this). I'm hoping it's true because the community isn't as full on other social sites.

I agree, Jute; I'm going to wait and see how (or what) changes are made before making a decision. So far I've really enjoyed using both Goodreads and Amazon for both personal and professional reasons. Only time will tell, really.

I do not see how an independent review site like Good Reads differs any from the independent review system that Amazon offers for all of its products. And the recommendations system of GR is similar to the 'others have bought' system used by Amazon. I do not think it will change things all that much except most likely a 'buy it on Amazon.com' link for every book you list in your to-read section.

So far amazon has said they don't plan on changing anything and the GoodReads staff is staying on. It's quite possible that things will change down the line - nothing ever stays static unless it's dying - but in the meantime, I'm enjoying VF conversations here and I've always had excellent service from amazon, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until they prove me wrong.
