I keep a numbered list of the books I have read each year in my planner. I list most of them on Goodreads too, unless I really don't want people to know I read it or sometimes if I listened to it in audiobook form. I use the Goodreads lists to keep track of books that were mentioned on a Podcast or by a friend so I can remember it later. I try to weed through that list sometimes and eliminate the ones I will probably never read or just don't feel inclined towards anymore.
I definitely do not keep a list of the books I own...too much effort. Is that weird?

Just of books I want to read (in Excel, not in goodreads) and what I have read (on goodreads).

I'm a little worried about my Goodreads challenge. I'm 10 behind! Eeek!"
You know, you can change your challenge number at any time on goodreads.
Loved the TBR reduction list. I just read the e-list and thought, "that's not so bad". Then I realized that was just the beginning! Mabye you need to draw up a reduction list of your TBR reduction list. :)

I have a big list of tbr books that I own. I make sure to keep a physical copy because shelfari deleted my account one year.
I keep an excel list of all the books I read each year, then I keep a second list with all the books I want to read. I used to carry a hard copy around with me in case I happened to finds self in a bookstore, I've transferred that list to Goodreads now so I can access it with my phone
I started a list, to stop myself from buying duplicates and to have a way of knowing whether I have a book or not without having to spend hours going through boxes/shelves.So I have one list in a Word document on my computer, those are the books that I own a physical copy of.
I have wishlists on audible and amazon, for the non-Danish books I want at some point, a post-it on my desk of the Danish books I want, and a book where I write down all titles I read/listen to.
All the books on my Goodreads to-read list are unread books I own - currently 872 - and having that list is a great way to navigate the piles :-)
I keep all sorts of book lists. One list is of the books I own. I started keeping this list for two reasons - first, so I wouldn't accidentally buy a copy of something I already owned and second so I could keep track of books I loan to friend. I also have a journal where I keep track of the books I read. For some books I'll fill a page, and for others I might write only a sentence or two. In either case it is nice to go back and see what I've read and where my head was at when I read it.
I also keep track of books I'd like to read. This is an informal list. I am constantly hearing about interesting books (from Goodreads, the Readers, newspapers, and the like) and so I make a note of the title and author in case I ever want to read it.
List making is in a way, relaxing. Without my lists I would constantly be wondering if I was forgetting something. Once I've written down then it is okay to forget about it because I can always refer back to the list.
I started keeping a list of the books I've read when I joined Goodreads. Most of my TBR list is in the form of samples on my Kindle, and unread physical books in the cabinet in my living room. I keep meaning to make a list of all the books I own, but the task seems overwhelming at this point.

Once I discovered Goodreads, I keep all my lists here. I have made an effort to keep my TBR below 100 and to tick books off the list at a better rate than in past years.
I think keeping lists, sometimes, makes me feel like I have to read books faster to make sure I get them all in. The main reason I keep an ongoing TBR is I will otherwise forget book titles of what I want to read. As it is, I typically remember the book cover rather than the title.
