Elizabeth☮ I have a tendency to not keep books around long. I have a bookshelf full, but it is not excessive. If I buy books now, I am eager to pass them on to my students or friends. And I don't want the book returned to me.

Wan (sawan) I do think that keeping 'meh' books on your bookshelf is wasteful. It's always a good idea to donate books to your local library if you're never going to re-read a book.

Elizabeth☮ I look at ratings here on goodreads and eliminate books with low ratings off my TBR. I also consider what my friends say in their reviews.

Esther (eshchory) | 135 comments Even though I have piles of unread books everywhere I have to be sure I will really dislike a book in order to give it away before I have read it.
In the last 5 years this has happened maybe half a dozen times: Eldest, a Nicholas Sparks, a Sandra Brown, another modern Romance and a couple of Christian/Evangelical books.
I used to have to read everything but I have taught myself to give them 50 pages.

Rita | 9 comments I go through and purge books from my TBR piles if I'm certain I'm not going to get around to reading it. People give me all kinds of books and I can never say no, so I find myself with books I have no desire to read.
