Hey all. This thread is for the discussion of titles folks would like to nominate for upcoming group reads. Books suggested for the first two weeks will go with the poll for May, then those listed for the remainder of April will go towards the June poll. Keep in mind that suggested titles need a volunteer to moderate the discussion. So consult your "to read" lists and let us know what you have coming up!

Susan (susanthomas) | 259 comments How about A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Geniusby Dave Eggers? Or maybe State of Wonder by Ann Patchett? or The Lacunaby Barbara Kingsolver? These are all on my shortlist to read, so if any of them make it to the poll I'll be happy.

All you have to do for them to go on the poll is suggest them(unless we get an overwhelming number of suggestions, but I have not yet had that problem) and be willing to moderate the discussion if one of them wins the poll!

Great...thanks! I'll look forward to seeing how the poll shapes up.

Alison G. (agriff22) | 543 comments I second Les Miserables and The DaVinci Code. I have both of them on my list to read this year. With Les Mis, getting started reading it now is the sooner the better since it's so big.

I would volunteer to moderate This is How You Lose Her in May, but not June.

And, hi everyone!

Yolie (yolie4u) | 73 comments I have a few suggestions!

High Fidelity by Nick Hornby by Nick Hornby

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova by Elizabeth Kostova

The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls by Jeannette Walls

Little Children by Tom Perrotta by Tom Perrotta

A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway by Ernest Hemingway

Moby-Dick by Herman Melville by Herman Melville

Just to name a few...

╟ ♫ Tima ♪ ╣ ♥ (tsunanisaurus) Ooo I totally second the nominations of Glass Castle and Little Children! I have both those books on my shelf right now and people keep telling me that I would devour Glass Castle.

As much as I like the idea of Les Mis, I think it might be too big for a solitary month read [for a lot of people anyway] if it won, maybe it could extend for May/June combined and have 2 other shorter books people could do if they aren't interested in Les Mis?

The Glass Castle is an excellent suggestion!

Good suggestion for Les Mis. I'll put it in the May poll and if it is in the top three, then we'll see if the mod is up for a two month schedule.

We've probably already got enough suggestions for both polls, atm!

Welcome back Faye!

Mekerei | 204 comments I would like to read The Glass Castle too

message 14: by Yolie (new)

Yolie (yolie4u) | 73 comments Looks like we have a lot more votes for the glass castle... Just saying..

If you want the vote to count, better put it in the poll :)

Asuka would you be willing to moderate the discussion for the Life of Pi in May?

message 17: by KenziTheRagin, Group Read Curator (new)

KenziTheRagin | 295 comments Mod
Alright folks, we will be having two books for the month of May(unless someone decides to step up to moderate Life of Pi). They are This is How You Lose Her and Les Misérables, the second possibly being on a two month schedule at the moderators discretion. I'll send out an email after the mods get their threads up, too.

Hey readers. We are about midway through May so I will take more suggestions for the June poll through the end of this week. Remember, if you suggest a book, you need to be willing and able to moderate the discussion. If it wins, but there is no moderator, then it still cannot be done.

Also, starting next month, I'm going to try putting the current discussion thread in the Group Reads folder since the thread link can be reached via the discussion link on the currently reading section.
