I loved the fact that she becomes heroic in her situation, yet retains her childlike innocence that makes her herself. Her kind heart reaps benefits - Martha wants to take care of her at her own expense, her friends want to help anonymously so as not to embarrass her. This chapter was very heartwarming.
Also I couldn't help thinking of the recent bank/financial issues here in the U.S. So many here were put in terrible positions by this.
