Blog Categories and Tags

I finally got around to sorting out categories and tags on my blog this weekend. I've gone from all kinds of levels of complexity and hierarchies to just a straight listing of authors as my 'categories' and tags are my new subjects (eg CRIME FICTION is one of my tags). How do you organise your categories/tags and do you think that they are useful for your blog readers? My blog is http://izzyreads.com
