I use the library a lot, but have recently gotten into buying books (I think the Strand bookstore is to blame). I try to just buy the ones that I know my family will want to read, so I can drop them at home when I'm done with them.

Oh my goodness the Strand is my favorite place to buy books EVER! I'm there... multiple times a week, haha.

Brittany and Susan; you gals are soooo lucky! I heard wonderful things about The Strand! It's definitely on my have to see list if I ever get to New York City!
My family and I went to Powell's Books in Oregon when we were traveling. I absolutely loved it. It was the most amazing bookstore. It takes up an entire city block. I would love to go there again. New York is actually closer to me. I may have to take a weekend vacation and go check out The Strand!

My brother and sister went to Powell's Books downtown just yesterday. I need to go soon and see if they will buy back some of my already read books:)
Has anyone read Dash & Lily's Book of Dares
. Their quest to find each other begins in The Strand bookstore :-)
No ebooks in libraries in here, no best sellers neither (I think they want us to read educational boring books) and certainly no books in English. :'(
@ Sarah - That's great that they buy back books. The used book store here only takes donations. I loved Powell's. It is so huge!
@ Cathie - I haven't read that one, but may have to add it to my TBR list as well. :)
@ Vanessa - That is such a bummer! You must have to buy everything.

Yes, I do...
I love Powell's! My brother lives in Oregon and Powell's is always on my must-visit list when I'm there.
2nd & Charles is awesome! It's a buy, sell or trade book store in DE. Huge store, they have a lot of old, hard to find books and movies. Plus you can take your unwanted books and trade or sell them. I love it!
Shannon, Megan, Susan and me, we want to do a buddy read on Uglies
in the middle of July, so if there is anyone who would like to join in, you are the most welcome :)
hey! how exactly does a buddy read work? is it we start and discuss??
Mashieka wrote: "hey! how exactly does a buddy read work? is it we start and discuss??"Basically people put in this thread if they have a book they are looking to read, and then if another person wants to read it aswell, then they agree on a timeframe and set up a discussion thread in the Buddy reads folder.
You read the book together starting on the agreed start date and make comments in the thread and ask questions as you go. So it is a bit different to a "book club" where you only discuss the book at the end. I find you get alot more out of the book by discussing as you go.
Hope that makes sense :)
hey thanks ! Yes.. It actually makes a lot of sense, I didn't quite get it before.. I am gonna tap into the buddy read.. Awesome! Thanks Karen!
No worries! There are a few set up in the folder over the next few months that you can join, or you can suggest another book :)
Coolio, I'm gonna keep an eye on the posts. "So many books so little time" :-)

Set up a thread and I'll add to the calender :)

Prob mid July. Don't want to speak for everyone but I think the approximate time would be around July 15?
No worries, I am open in July to any date - no other scheduled books. Just like to pencil it in when the date is confirmed :)
Kristie wrote: "Faria - I believe there is already a buddy read set up for that one in August."Yes there is and I'll join Uglies buddy read!
I've had the Uglies sitting around for awhile now. This would be a great excuse to read it. I'm in :)
I've noticed some of us are reading Legend for our A-Z challenge. Do any of you guys want to read it as a buddy read? I think it would be fun :)
Anyone interested in reading Underworld by Meg Cabot with me? This is the first in a trilogy, and the third book,Awaken comes out July 2nd. I'm wanting to reread this and the second one, Abandon before then. It sort of short notice, so we can maybe push the rest back(I just might be reading ahead :) ) Just wanted to see if anyone is up for it!

I wanted to let you know that Cathie, Anima and I are going to read
Pure by Julianna Baggott in August. You're all welcome to join us :)Here's the thread: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
Hey, Anima and Cin, do we want to think about maybe putting a start date of August 10th instead of the 1st so that those read First Wave (which begins on Aug. 1st) can join us if they finish?

I might!! This book looks good!

I have that on my next A-Z Challenge (probably for next year...yes, I do that! lol), but probably won't be reading it soon enough to join you.

@Cathie, it would be great, as I have a buddy read on the 5th Wave and I wouldn't have to read it earlier :), 10th would be perfect :)
Cathie wrote: "Hey, Anima and Cin, do we want to think about maybe putting a start date of August 10th instead of the 1st so that those read First Wave (which begins on Aug. 1st) can join us if they finish?"That's fine by me, Cathie :)

Kristie, if you read it this year, you can count it for your Goodreads Choice Awards challenge, it was a nominee :D

That's true! But, it would still have to be towards the end of the year for me. I've signed up for a bunch of upcoming reads and will have tons of school stuff, so it's difficult to commit right now.

Alycia wrote: "Cin- I would love to read Legend with you!"That's great, Alycia! As soon as another person agrees to join us (we need at least three for a buddy read) I'll set up the thread :)
What date did you have in mind? Somewhere around July 25th would be good for me. :)
I'm not sure that you need 3 for a buddy read Cin??2 or more makes buddies reading together (at least that's been my experience)
So Cin, are you ok with us starting Pure on August 10th instead of the 1st?
Oops, I thought I saw that somewhere in this thread, but now I can't find it :S anyway, that means that Alycia and I have a buddy read :) all we need to do is confirm the date :)By the way, I have no problem with starting Pure on August 10th :)
Whatever time works for you is fine by me. I'm pretty well open. I haven't committed myself to much for reading (aside from my own personal challenges). I'm sort of a read as I go person and don't plan them. :)So, in other words, July 25th is perfect. lol
