Can someone explain the covers of all four books?

Olivia I don't know if the answer is really obvious or anything, but I am just wondering what the covers for each of the four books mean. Honestly, I am not the biggest fan of these books. Not by a long-shot. But I continued on until the end, and when I was finished, I was still wondering why the first book had two hands holding an apple, and so on. Help? I read these books years ago, so I don't know why I am asking this now. o.O I guess I was just randomly wondering, hahaha.

Sadly, I know the answer to this *hangs head in shame* my obsession with these books left me with a lot of useless facts in my brain.
The first book stands for the "forbidden fruit". Since Bella's really tempting, but Edward shouldn't eat her.
The second is... I think Bella getting torn up and hurt by Edward's departure (the ruffled flower with blood and stuff) I can't remember for sure but I'm pretty sure that's right
The third is I believe Bella getting torn apart by choosing between Edward and Jacob.
Then the fourth... I got no clue.
But my memory is a little rusty so these may be wrong, I can't be sure.

Diane There is a similar thread to this not long ago:
Could someone please tell me why that verse is in the front of the book and why there's a picture of Eve holding the forbidden fruit on the cover?

Twilight - forbidden fruit
New Moon - no particular meaning, but I took it to symbolize grief over Edward's departure
Eclipse - Trying to break away from your old life
Breaking Dawn - Bella's progression, she started as a pawn, but "evolved" into a queen

Fiona Curtis Adding to Diane's post, besides the chess being Bella's progression of pawn -> queen, it could also symbolize the two werewolf clans fighting each other, and (getting very deep and unlikely) possibly the two sides (werewolfs and vampires) mixing together and not being separated by boundaries any more?

Haidi All the answers to these are easy to find if you look on the internet.

Olivia wrote: "(hey everyone i just found the right answer to all the books, that on the cover, & what it means.)

Twilight is resembling the forbidden fruit. The fruit is Bella and her blood is forbidden to Edwa..."

You mean, her transformation into a total Mary Sue. (Not that she wasn't one already.)

Chloe Fandom Queen I'm probably not right but here's what I think...

Twilight - the forbidden fruit - Edward must not eat Bella because he is destined to love her
New Moon - the bloodied flower - Bella's grief over Edward is enough to make her hurt and bleed
Eclipse - the torn ribbon - Bella is torn between Edward and Jacob
Breaking Dawn - the chess pieces - Bella has been used as a pawn by so many but now she fights back to become the queen

That's what I think anyway.

SophiAnn Twilight: forbidden fruit, and isn't there a scene where Edward catches an apple?
New Moon: Bella is bleeding mentally from the pain
Eclipse: Bella feels torn over the boys
Breaking Dawn: I think this is like Bella is the white piece and the red one is the enemy closing in for the final battle, and then the whole Bella is the queen thingy.
Anyway, that is how I've always thought of it. The Host cover is so much clearer, don't you think?

Caitlyn What I think: (I may be wrong)

Twilight:Forbidden Fruit or Edward catches an apple after Bella drops it.
New Moon: Meyer has said it has nothing to do with the story
Eclipse:represents choice
Breaking Dawn:Started as a pawn, and it shows how she turns into a beautiful 'queen' in this case vampire or the fact her and Edward(i think) play chess

Twilight: Forbidden fruit
New Moon: Beauty destroyed
Eclipse: Torn apart by choice
Breaking Dawn: This is like the queen is about to "kill" the pawn, like checkmate in a way. It symbolises danger.

If you've read he books and enjoyed them, it shouldn't have been that hard to work out the correlation between the covers and the essence of each book. I think they are pretty self explanatory. I guess after SM wrote Twilight and that cover had an obvious meaning, she felt that the theme should be followed through with the other books and not just have random pictures.

Swati Murmu the meaning of the chess photo in breaking dawn book is something like this:we see a pawn standing in the background.a pawn has the lowest position in the chess.the pawn represents the former bella.in twilight we discover bella actually doesn't get what she wants.her mother remarries and for the sake of her mother she moves to forks.this is were she meets edward cullen-her ultimate future.in eclipse bella has to choose between her best friend jacob and her love edward.choosing one would ultimately hurt the other(though she chooses edward).she also wants to experience the human expirience before she turns into a vampire(i guess i dont have to mention what HUMAN EXPIRIENCE).edward and bella make a deal but bella still finds the idea of marrying at such a young age repulsive.so here we see that bella's life was not a bed of roses and she didnot get what she wanted in the beginning.but in breaking dawn after she turns into a vampire, she gets everything-she wanted to be a vampire:check.she wanted to experience THAT human experience:check.she wanted edward for eternity:check.she also wanted jacob to be happy:check and morever she gets such a lovely daughter(renesmee).so her later life as a vampire is represented by a white queen(one of the character in chess with the highest position).thats all :)
