I think there are some musings in that regard in AFFC after (view spoiler)[Tywin Lannister's death (hide spoiler)]. Both Jaime, while (view spoiler)[standing honour guard for his father (hide spoiler)] and Cersei consider their father and family history. Cersei also muses about how she should have been born a man.
