No!! I absoluely love Walter! Especially since there is the whole scene with Jared seeing how Wanda is prepared to stay by Walter's side, even though she is sleep deprived and her hand is turning blue. I think that's when Jared realises that Wanda might actually be compassionate, and almost humanlike. That's when he starts to believe her about Melanie still being with Wanda. How can they remove that from the movie!?

My book is stained with tears, and I wanted whatever shirt I wore to the movie to end up similarly. I absolutely hated Wanda until this part. Walter's death was a major event, and I'm almost angry they tossed it aside.
well - what i've learned from Twilight is that sometimes they merge characters into 1 so that they don't have to have to take away from other pieces of the story - so maybe there's a bit of an evolution to walter brought into another character in the film? i'm going to see it tonight so i'll know then....i guess
I haven't seen the movie yet, not sure if I even want to. I loved the book but they make the movie so shitty sometimes. Excuse my language! I'm glad I did see this though before going to see the movie and noticing Walter not being in it. Thats what sucks about movies to books though they leave things out that SHOULD be in and put the crappy stuff in. Walter in my opinion was a major thing they should of put in the movie because it showed that Wanda was different compared to the other souls and she did have a caring side. Once I see the movie I will share my opinion on the whole movie though!
It was a very touching part of the book, and I loved reading about him, but I was pretty understanding about him not being in the book. There were a lot of characters in there, and it would have been impossible for them all to be included.Really, if he was in the movie, then someone else's face time would have been cut. Who? Jamie? Jeb? I feel that they were much more essential characters to the main plot.
I was also not too surprised that Sharon wasn't in the film, for much the same reason. Aunt Maggie really encapsulated those feelings, so having both wasn't really necessary.
I was pretty upset when I realised that he wasn't gonna show up anytime soon (so about halfway through the movie I gave up hope..) He was one of my fave characters and like pretty much everyone already said up here, you really got to see Wanda's compassionate side – and how she genuinely does care for the humans!
Me too. Walter was really one of my favourite characters of the book. His funeral was so touching. But it was to expect that they had to let some things out. But all in all the movie is really okay and I liked it.
Me, me, me! I was sad, too! Walter was Wanda's first true friend, you know, one that wasn't connected to Melanie in any way. I als thought that the movie didn't show much about the cave people at all, you hardly got to know them (even the main characters). The entire storyline seemed rushed, there were holes in character development, relationship building etc.
