Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) | 1359 comments Hi Ladies!!!!

Sorry I have been MIA the last few days. I went back to work on Wednesday and I have been working the middle shift, 10 am- 7 pm. I am on day 4 of a 6 day stretch and then I will have two days off. I'm feeling a bit better...thanks for asking!!! My voice is getting better, but I still get tired fairly easy.

I will be participating in the RaT with a goal of 1500 pages.

I should have some books to post to my shelf on Tuesday when I have a bit more time. Enjoy your reading and hope to see you all soon!!!

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Glad you are back to work, ♥Robin♥, but why - when you just got off sick leave - would they put you on a six day stretch?

message 304: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Glad to hear you are feeling better ♥Robin♥ :-). Pace yourself, if you can.

I finished reading Behind the Beautiful Forevers Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity by Katherine Boo . A very disturbing but well written book; I gave it 5 stars. I need to read something light and fun now.

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Glad you're feeling better Robin, look after yourself at work.

I've been thinking about the theme, just wondering if there's a genre that either everyone likes or people hate?

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 450 comments Re theme: I know that ShoSho, Robin and I read lots of romance books. If that's something the rest of you like, we could do that. Or maybe we could suggest a cozy mystery.

Robin, glad you're feeling better!

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Hello everybody,

Almost the end of the weekend here :( Off to the lab shortly to do a few bits. Unfortunately my idea of doing jobs today was thwarted by the delivery of the Hunger Game trilogy yesterday and I may or may not have accidentally read the entirety of Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins *looks a bit shameful* instead...

message 309: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments What does the mini challenge involve again? I'm not a huge fan of romance, but when I look at what I've read and what's on my upcoming list I could squeeze in a romance or two. Does anyone know the link to the challenge rules?

The mini challenge is a non-reading challenge so like 'collecting' covers. The theme is something everybody reads something to do with.

I'll post a link to the rules and Robin's ideas for a mini challenge when I get home in about half an hour- just finishing at the lab and I'm gasping for a cup of tea so I'll do it then :)

message 311: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Ok so... link to main rules thread... http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

Robin's mini challenge ideas:
1.April Showers Bring May Flowers

Since April showers bring May flowers!!! It's also the month to celebrate Mother's Day and what mother doesn't love flowers ☺ With May being the 5th month of year find <5>books on your shelves with flowers on the cover OR the name of a flower in the title/author's name. Take a picture and post it on the thread.

2.Green with Envy

May's birthstone is the emerald. Find five books on your shelves that are at least 50% green. Take a picture and post it on the thread.

Which one do you all prefer?

I'm still thinking about the theme, have some ideas but I'm not sure if they'll work

Things going to be hectic around here and I'm not sure if I'll be in the mood to read. He was the best boss one could ever ask for.
I'll let you know if I participate or not in a few days

Oh no ShoSho, I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you're ok.

Don't worry about the reading, you don't have to take part, you could always just join in with some of the challenges if you felt like it. Sometimes life does need to take over.

I'll be thinking of you on the other side of the world.

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Hi ladies, I've updated the spreadsheet with the latest book counts as of lunch time today.

I'm currently trying to get through a book which everyone else seems to love but I think's terrible!!

I like the second mini challenge idea too, shall we go for that one?

As for a theme, how about, a book from your favourite genre, a book with a flower on the front or a book from a series you've started already?

message 324: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 450 comments Ooooh, a book from a series we've already started would be great! Or the favorite genre would be my second choice :)

I'm fine with going with the second mini-challenge - send it in! LOL

message 325: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments 2nd mini challenge choice is good with me, as is a book from a series we are reading.

message 326: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments I'm good with the book from a series we've started one too... I'll see if I get any no's before I go to bed and then submit it if I don't :)

message 327: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Uhhmmmm, I just reread the "rules" and you get 1 point for every book you read in the theme. I probably only have 1 (maybe 2) that would be a part of a series I'm reading, so read a book in a series is probably not the best "theme" for me.

A book from your favorite genre would probably produce more points from me, so I'll say favorite genre.

message 328: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments I thought it was one point per person once until you reached half the team read a book that counted but I will double check!

message 329: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 450 comments I've got 24582547554 series that I've started...or at least it seems that way ;)

**hee hee**

message 331: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments It's one point per person for colour and one point per person until you reach 50% of those taking part getting one of each.

Does that make sense?

message 332: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Nope, way over my head, laughing. I'll go with what everyone else decides :-)

message 333: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments You only 'have' to read one for the theme and one for the colour, you don't get any extra points for reading more. And by have I mean it's optional but you get more points by doing it!

message 334: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Taken from the link you posted above:

Each team should choose a theme for the read-a-thon and read at least one book representing that theme.
*1 point per book read

*30 points if 50% of team members read a book representing the theme
*50 points if all the team members read a book representing the theme

It says to read "at least one"; doesn't seem optional to me. Also says you get 1 point per book read under theme chosen, which makes me think that the more books I can read in the theme means the more points I can help the team out with.

I already have my TBR list of books for May; I have a lot of series I've begun, but just not able to read them in May. I will read Fire (Graceling Realm, #2) by Kristin Cashore . It is the only one in a series I have already started.
Question: I have a bunch of books slated that are firsts in a series; would these count or do you already have to have started the series before this read-a-thon?

Oops, wait a minute, Cathie...just read the words in black, not what you think the words mean ;-). It says team, doesn't it...not individual members...this is not a good brain day.

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Hallo. So, no complaints so I'll submit the 'another book in a series' theme and the second mini challenge :)

If anyone's still confused, there are some updated rules here: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

And a list of orange cover ideas is here http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/78...

I shall post this in the RaT thread as well and use that to update on how people are getting on pages wise during the challenge :)

message 341: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments ShoSho, if you do decide you want to join in, we have until the 8th to update goals and if people are taking part so you'll still be able to if you want but there's no pressure at all.

It does but they'll accept changes in goals and participation until about halfway through incase people find real life gets in the way (for instance, if I find I'm not working next weekend, I might chose to up the goal or people might find they've got less time to read instead). I'll note your starting page tally too and then if you want to join in, you can :)

That's good because I might not might be reading but I'll be listening while I do my daily walks.
Just a question the page number thing adds the pages of the edition I've added, what if it shows 0 pages or doesn't have page numbers?

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) | 1359 comments Hi Ladies!!!!

So sorry to hear about your loss ShoSho. Sending out prayers to you.

Which ever mini challenge you all choose is fine with me BUT I doubt I will have any series reads coming up for the RaT. I am working on all my other challenges and most of those books are stand alones :(

I hope everyone is doing good and enjoying your books!!!!

message 348: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments ShoSho, Full Moon is the next one in the series; I want to read that one too :-)

Robin, see all the posts where I said the same thing about series books; apparently only the Team, not individual members have to read 1 series book; I've been told the team can do this ;-)

message 349: by Robin (Saturndoo) (last edited Apr 30, 2013 01:11AM) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) | 1359 comments If I am reading this correctly you get more points if all participating team members read a book related to the theme.

So if I am understanding this right if I can't work a book in based on our theme that would knock us out of the 30 or 50 points.

I have some new series that I am getting ready to start but no continuing series. If the theme was any book from a series I could do that ☺
