You really didn't like Peter Pan did you Robin? lol, I've only read the abridged versions, I've not got around to the unabridged one..."

No LOL I really didn't. I was actually amazed how that could ever be a children's favorite. I asked my mom if she ever read it and she said "OHHHHH MY why in the world would you even want to read that horrible book!!" I told her it couldn't be that bad and she said OK you will see LOL and I did. She loves to read and always has, ever since she was a little girl and that is who I got my love of books and reading from. She told me when she was in grade school, Peter Pan was required reading for them and it was probably one of the only books she didn't enjoy through-out her school years. Like mother like daughter I guess :)

And come to think about it, she never read Peter Pan to us as children and now I know why LOL. Mom must have only read us the books she enjoyed :)

That is good to hear Phyllis :) You never know how much you really miss a good night's sleep until you have been without several nights of good sleep. It's very refreshing to get a good night's sleep. I hope everything went well with his dr appt. I think about you and your family and am still sending out warm wishes, hugs and prayers for you all :)

I will figure out where it fits later on, or someone else can if they are really ambitious. My eyes are so tired as is the rest of me; I'm off to bed.

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments We are now 12% of the way to the highest number of books for the september challenge. I've just realised quite a few of the books I've red in the last 2 days have been too short, whoops! so I'm back on the 160+ pages now :)

message 1457: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Hope everyone's ok. How's your husband Phyllis?

Just thought I'd share that I've reached my goal for the 2013 GR challenge :) But I've unintentionally read some very short books over the last week as an attempt to clear out my kindle a bit, so I've not done so well on the September Challenge! But I think I've got most of the short ones cleared now, at least for the moment!! :)

The “Cutthroat Competitor Cupcake” is coming!

This is a cupcake that’s NOT fooling around.
Hard to conquer, but your BAPs will surely mound.

You thought the “Triple Threat” was hard to earn?
This one’s NOT vinegar; yet, neither is it sauterne.

This cupcake counts as ‘cuatro’ – which translates to four.
With a 350,000-word-endurance, these books are worth tons more.

This Captain will give you four BAPs to really increase your points.
After all that page turning, this isn’t one that disappoints.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Cathie, it means that there will be some hard puzzles posted, but with them your Captain may turn in any book that is equal to 350,000 words (1,400 pages). And your Team will get four BAPs! Woohoo!

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Hi everyone, Sorry I've been a bit slow on updating everything this week. It was all going well until Wednesday when I got my grade back for my Masters. On a positive note, I passed so I have a masters degree, yay!! :) But I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to carry on to my PhD yet so I've been a bit emotional and down the last couple of days :( I will be updating this tonight, either before or after my mega baking session!

I do use some soup. I have to put everything in the blender and then thin it down. He can't use a straw because you need to use your tongue to suck very well. We see to be doing a little better the last few days. His mouth is just so sore. He says it feels raw inside. I can't imagine 3 more weeks of this, but with God's help we will make it. Thanks for thinking of us.

Sorry Robin, I think I must of deleted what you had written. But I wanted to thank you for thinking of us and praying for us. I don't know how we could make it through this without the prayers of Christian friends (even one's we haven't met). Three weeks from today he gets all of the screws and wires taken out. I am sure God will help us make it until then.

Announcement:

With regards to “Cutthroat Competitor Cupcakes,” 350,000 words = 1,400 pages.

However, keep in mind that for some of the longer books they squeeze more words on per page. We go by word count first, when we can find it, then refer to WorldCat.

Sooooo... that is why sometimes you will see an 800 or 900 page book count as a “Cutthroat Competitor.”

Also, your Captain has a link to a list of approved books, to which we will continue to add. Thus far they are:
An American Tragedy
Atlas Shrugged)
A Breath of Snow and Ashes
The Civil War, Vol. 1: Fort Sumter to Perryville
The Count of Monte Cristo
A Dance With Dragons
The Fiery Cross
A Storm of Swords
It
Les Misérables
Sacajawea
Voyager
The Wise Man's Fear

Cathie wrote: "Dear Moderators; when do cutthroat books have to be read by? (I am planning on reading The Wise Man's Fear but probably not this month.)"

Cathie, you may read 350,000 word books up until the end of the challenge. We will stop redeeming cupcakes probably a week or two before we see a Team reaching the goal of 1,350. (We just don't want all the Captains flooding us with these when we are winding things up; there are a lot more than we anticipated.)

However, now you made me put my thinking cap on. I might allow people who are (near the finish line) in the middle of a qualifying "chunkster," "Triple Threat" or “Cutthroat Competitor” to ask for special permission to redeem them after the dead-line.

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments OK.... For those of you taking part, we're about 45% through the September challenge to the HIGHEST book count. There are a few books I really cannot place so if there's something I've missed and you know where to put it, let me know and I'll add it, I've done the best I can without reading them myself!

Also, the October challenge. I think I understand it (for once!) so feel free to ask me any questions but I'm on a driving course for the next two weeks (blue lights, Yay!!! :) ) so I probably won't be around much except in the evenings.

Hope everyone's ok and enjoying reading :)
