I finished
last night/this morning! I'm not quite sure what to make of it. I did enjoy it, Stephen King is brilliant but I just thought it all got a bit miserable towards the end!
Claire wrote: "Great Susan :-) are you enjoying it?"Very much! I had forgotten how much I like Cindy Gerard's books :)
Go ShoSho !! that was so smart ! finished
my first Jane Austen I liked : ) I will join the September one
I started Mansfield Park once but I wasn't overly keen. My favourite Austen's still Pride and Prejudice :)
Claire wrote: "I started Mansfield Park once but I wasn't overly keen. My favourite Austen's still Pride and Prejudice :)"That's my favorite too.(between the 4 I've read )
Kme_17 wrote: "that's the next Austen I plan to read Claire : )"I can highly recommend it. It took me a couple of attempts, I don't find the classics easy to get into, but once I got into it, I couldn't put it down! :)
ShoSho wrote: "I will join the September challenge. I have to read the rules first!"Great! If you can't find them, I'll repost them :)
I have an idea about the 'other' challenge... if the Mods agree, how about the September Takeover Challenge - LK's one? At least me and Cathie are already down for it, you don't have to sign up for that one if you don't want to do it all but it's got some great categories :)
Aww. Sweet, Claire. You may use certainly that challenge, if you wish. Any challenge, past or present, monthly, yearly, seasonal, etc.
Great :) I've had a brief look at the A-Zs, I don't mind what we choose but I quite like the idea of this one: the professions and avocations A-Z: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...I've just read
, really lovely, cozy murder mystery and I'll definitely read more by her. I'm now sat on the train reading
and I can feel my blood boiling... I think my review of it may turn into a mini rant, but I will finish it, it could count under inspiring as it's about the London Ambulance Service and paramedics are (mostly) inspiring, even if this one makes me want to slap him!! :)
Got both of those on there thank you.... Well... actually, not sure if I got Silent Wife in, is it a crime? If so, we have 75 :)
September ChallengeHere is the preliminary info on the challenge....
Basically..... It's a Moderators challenge for Book Advantage Points, like the July and August ones have been. The number of books is determined by who's taking part. For instance:
If it's just me taking part, I'll have to read 10-15 books which qualify to get the BAPs (1 BAP if I read 10 books - 4 BAPs if I read 15).
If it's just me and Cathie (for example) we'll have to read between 20 and 30 books between us in the month.
The books that are read need to fit in to one of three challenges. At least 1/3 of the books have to fit in the Book a Day challenge and then at least one will need to fit for each of an A-Z challenge that we pick and another challenge we choose. (One challenge per book though!) The rest of the books can be spread how we see fit.
EDIT: When I have an idea of who's playing, I'll suggest some challenges and see what we like the look of :)
I hope that answers some questions, let me know if there are more, there's a Captain's discussion thread going too to bash out any problems so I can ask there if I don't know the answer :)
The link for the 'Book A Day' challenge is here.
For instance, for the number '4' ' 4th of July is Independence Day. Read a book with a red, white and blue cover, or that is set on the US, or has the US flag on the cover. Or read a book where the main character is fighting for his independence or for some greater good.'
We don't have to complete the challenge, just read enough to make up a third of our goal.
A-Z is one of the NBRC A-Z challenges (there's a list posted on that link I put above) but we only need to do one book from that challenge although we can do more.
The other challenge is one of the other NBRC challenges too, just not an A-Z one.
It's between 7 and 9.9% of each participants goal for the overall challenge (or for the team, it's the total goal of all the participants):
7-8.2% gives 1 BAP
8.33-9.8% gives 2 BAPs
9.9% and above gives 4 BAPs
The numbers I gave were just an example. But if it worked out at 15 'per person' taking part, we could read any combination, some reading more, others reading less.
I think the BAPs have increased now though :)
Yes, Claire, the BAPs have changed. And you have another option.
We really like what Mango Tango (who has declined our Mods’ September Challenge for BAPs) has done with their Mango Tango's September Straight Percentage Challenge .
So, we are giving you this as another option, although not for as many points as ours. If you do ours you will now get more than double than what we originally posted for each percent.

If your Team chooses MT's Straight Percent, you'll get:9.9% = 9 BAPs
8.33 to 9.8% = 7 BAPs
7 to 8.2% = 5 BAPs
9.9% = 4 BAPs
8.33 to 9.8% = 2 BAPs
7 to 8.2% = 1 BAPs
I like the challenges so personally I'd like to stick with the original mods challenge. And I like the BAP's we can get with that one too :-)Claire, if it's not too much trouble, could you do a breakdown like Mango Tango did for each person taking part so we could each know what our book goals should be? (It helps to make it all clearer).
Have we decided on what our Third Challenge is? (That is, if we are going with the Mod's Challenge.)
Ahhhh, I should go look more often. Duh! I looked on the sheet on Saturday ... lolThanks for letting me know :-)
Hi Cathie, I was going to start a thread when I got back tonight ( or tomorrow morning as I'm now doing a 12 hour shift today!! :-) )I'd definitely prefer the mods challenge.
I think we're happy with the takeover challenge, we just need to decide on an a-z challenge. the professions one looks interesting but I haven't looked too much at the others

I don't think I can do this challenge !Reading this many books for one challenge in 1 month ,it makes me nervous!
Claire, I just wanted to let you know I finished
There are 201 pages in it, even though it's not listed on the GR page. I know there are this many pages cause I got the copy I read from the library in print :)
ShoSho wrote: "My e-library has that one Susan , should I try it as my first ever Sheikh book?"I'd say yes! He's not too terribly overbearing. He's actually kind of sweet in his interactions with Maggie. And you can't rally go wrong with Susan Mallory's writing :)
Susan (susayq) wrote: "Claire, I just wanted to let you know I finished

Sorry I didn't post it all last night, I came home and crashed out on the sofa (maybe I shouldn't have gone for such a comfy one!) I've started a post and I'll fill it in over lunchtime today. ShoSho, I think we can change our mind about taking part up until the 20th so you could see how you go and decide? But don't feel pressured to take part at all though.

Talking of challenges, does anybody else want to do the September one?
