Great Sanz.

We can do this challenge like we did it for 7% solution. Collect all the books and write down in what categories they fit, and then later decide where to use them. That way we can switch them if necessary. ☺

You need some colors in those covers. :D They look so dark.

Are in some challenge with Agatha Christy's books or something like that? You're going through them pretty fast. ☺
I've read long time ago few of those stand-alones. My favorite one was with those 13(?) people on island or somewhere. I have no idea what's it called in English (can't remember Croatian title either ☺) and I'm to lazy to go look for it now. I'm planing for some time to go through Poirot and Mrs. Marple, but somehow always something else gets in the way. ☺
I did love watching Poirot movies/series. ☺

message 1311: by Melissa (ladybug) (new)

Melissa (ladybug) | 1048 comments Nah, I just have to read three Agatha Christie books for a challenge. :D

The challenge is for the group: The Challenge Factory You Have the Right to Remain Silent

Plus I need to read another one of the Poirot books about "Murder of Roger Ackroyd" for the 1001 books to read before you die list. :D

"The ABC Murder" is the only other Poirot book I have, and I have one Miss Marple mystery to read. :D

message 1312: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments I know that challenge.
I didn't sigh up because I thought that's lot of mysteries and I was in the mood for something else at the time.

That's why went now with that The Mystery, Mayhem, and Murder Squad challenge. It's only 50 mystery books (of course I'm going with highest level!). ☺ At least it's open-ending. ☺

More encryption puzzles are coming from this Captain of Pain.
You might need some help, or a bit of Novocain.

If you need a hint, for any quote or spell,
what letter you desire, be sure to tell.

Redeem a “Blinkie” cupcake you have earned.
Choose wisely, to help you decipher and discern.

Will it take only one, two, or three?
To set you on the right path, it’s such a small fee.

We don’t want those cupcakes to go to waste.
Consider logically where the “t” could be placed.

Or maybe you’ll want an altogether different choice.
It’s important, as there are no hints that have voice.

For the clue to be helpful, Captain Cupcake must know,
to reveal from the alphabet what you want him to show.

With each submission, be sure to make clear,
which letter from this Captain you want to hear!

See, we don’t want your cupcakes going to waste.
So tell us the letter for which you’d like a taste.

It’s almost like magic: a “Blinkie” for a hint,
to earn a “bouncing” or “Triple Threat.”
That’s a “Blinkie” well spent!

Maybe you should try slowly. Plan only half of the books and do rest of them random. ☺

I always did wonder... If you plan your books few months upfront (and I think I remember you were 2 months ahead?), how do you work in new challenges?
For example, you have planned to read m/m for next month. How does that murder, mystery challenge figures in?

I am up to November in my starter plans :)
1) One of my goals this year was to finish more series, so I read a book a month. So depending on how long the series, then I know I will be reading those sequels in the subsequent month.
then i have Recommended reads and sequels coming out and so I plug in those books I am waiting for for that month.
for instance, books that I am waiting for and thus know what month to plug them in are:

October: Allegiant (Divergent, #3) by Veronica Roth Darkness Rises (Immortal Guardians, #4) by Dianne Duvall Horde (Razorland, #3) by Ann Aguirre Shadowed (Dark Protectors, #6) by Rebecca Zanetti

November: Shock & Awe (Sidewinder, #1) by Abigail Roux The Edge of Always (The Edge of Never, #2) by J.A. Redmerski World After (Penryn & the End of Days, #2) by Susan Ee

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Mods' September Challenge

I know we told you already about this one but there are some changes. ☺

Mods' Challenge - version 1
- this version is previous explained version. We have to read xx number of books (depending how many of us is playing).
- minimum 1/3 of those books needs to fit in A Book A Day Keeps the Boredom at Bay Reading Challenge
- Other books needs to be in one of A-Z challenges and one of our choice.
A-Z challenges:
Author Alphabet Reading Challenge
Hero Alphabet Reading Challenge
Heroine Alphabet Reading Challenge
Pet Names Alphabet Reading Challenge
Title Challenge: Read the Alphabet
Setting Alphabet Reading Challenge
Villains Alphabet Reading Challenge

*I suggest going with author or title one - they are the easiest*

Other challenges:
We could go with previous choice for A-Z Animal Alphabet Reading Challenge since it's spell-out and there are many options.
Or if you have any other wishes, I'm listening.

You don't have to join those challenges. We'll be keeping track in Hobbit Games thread or/and in spreadsheet

What are we getting with this challenge?
There are 3 categories/difficulties.
If we read we'll get
9,9% 9 BAPs
8,33 - 9,8% 7 BAPs
7 - 8,2% 5 BAPs

*BAP - book advantage points

Mods' Challenge - version 2
This one is actually Mango Tango's version of Mods' September challenge.
Basically they declined playing challenges, but will stick with one part of it: the percent goal. Everyone who wants to play needs to read certain percent of their reading goal.

What are we getting with this challenge?
There are 3 categories/difficulties.
If we read we'll get
9,9% 4 BAPs
8,33 - 9,8% 2 BAPs
7 - 8,2% 1 BAP

*BAP - book advantage points

_____________________________________________

Mods have been very nice and they did math for us. ☺ In list below you can see how many books are in each percent
Hobbit 8,33% 7% 9,9%
Turtlecollector 26 22 31
Ezi 20 17 24
Melissa 20 17 24
Tea 15 12 18
Jojiwoji 12 10 14
Karen 6 5 7
Jenny 4 4 5
Sanz 4 3 4
Jordan 2 2 2
md 1 1 1
Dee 0 0 0 ☺

Total for now 110 93 130

Again, you don't have to play if you don't want to!

If you're interested give me an aye. We need to know this by August 31st. (So Mods can do math).
And tell us what version of the challenge you'd like to play.

Mods announcements:
Members may drop out anytime, up to September 20th; after that, another member will have to pick up their slack. However, members may join at any time, up until the last day of the month, September 30th.

Teams may change their other two challenges (that are not the "Book a Day") anytime, up to September 20th; after that, they are stuck with their last choice.
Or, you may change to the Mango Tango option by that same deadline: September 20th.

The only restriction we have is that 1/3 of the books needs to be in a Book by Day challenge. Others, we can fit as we want.

Yes, if you want you, can cover A-J.
We were planing to do it more like 7% - list where book can fit and then put them in categories later. But if you prefer category more and want to do it yourself, it's fine with us. ☺

I can't tell you how many books needs to be in each category until I know who's playing. So far, with 3 of us, we need to read 46 (7%) - 66 (9,9%).

At least 1 will need to be completed, but I am sure we will have more.

For example, if everyone on the team participates and we read 93 books(7% level), 31 of those books have to fit in the 'Book a Day Keeps the Boredom Away' challenge. The other 62 need to fit somewhere into the other 2 challenges.

This is why I think we should use the 'Animal Alphabet' Challenge for our third challenge. Even if we fill up the A-to-Z challenge(26) and 'Book a Day' challenge(31), we still have to place at least 36 more books into the 3rd challenge and spell out seems to be the easiest way to do it. This is at the lowest level, 7%, with everybody participating.

We have even more books than that to fit in if we read to the highest level(and our team has come pretty close to that in the past).

message 1333: by Ezi (last edited Aug 21, 2013 12:17PM) (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) I am signed up for Book a Day Challenge. I have 21 books on the list. Here is my post: Post 61

I know Undead Sublet (Half Moon Hollow, #1.5) by Molly Harper (#17) won't count here because it is 156 pages, not 160. so it's more like 20 books.

Let me know what you all decide we should do, and I will pitch in:)

Sorry Tea, I got behind in keeping up at when at my sister's house. I have 2 more finished books of my own I haven't added to the spreadsheet yet and about 4 more halfway finished. At least my eye appointment went well, but I didn't have as much time to update things as I hoped since my family was busier than usual. They stayed up later and got up earlier than usual, during the times I would normally be online updating or reading. It is really hard to say no to my niece's puppy dog eyes when she wants to do something with me.

I am back now and will be getting everything I need to updated later tonight.
