❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments I know they have to be finished in June, just if I start my usual reading now it will be done in May :D
Maybe I should start with Count of Monte Cristo or Game of Thrones I've been postponing. They should take a while :D

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) Where can I read about this 7% challenge so I can figure out what I'm supposed to do?
Thanks

message 703: by ❀Tea❀ (last edited May 27, 2013 12:54PM) (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments this is main thread --> link

Basically we have 7 categories and we need to read 7 books from each (or replace one category with another one). 49 book at the end
You don't need to say upfront what you'll be reading unless you want one of the categories for yourself. :D
Our 'evil plan' is to make list of all read books and than switch them around as needed.
Categories: covers, spelling, buddy read (we are skipping that one and doing spelling twice), reading something one other teams read list and (last one is difficult to describe :D) 7 letter/word title/author thing (with spelling if we want)

Ask if you need more explanations :D

:D
I was saving blue cover because there is so many blue teams (and cadet blue was behind us last week). Then we ended up between two pinks so I started reading blue covers, and now you said we can read several colors for magenta....

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Ezinwanyi~For you, Agron wrote: "Why can't we do buddy reads? Just curious."

We could if you want to. They need to be done in this group, so your other buddys don't count. If you find something you want to read or want to set new BR, go ahead. But in that case there needs to be 7 BR (they don't have to be done by you. Other can participate also).
We thought we won't use it because nobody was very interested in it and there was that part about participating in discussions with questions. (Mods are thinking to change that part.) And it would be easier to do spelling or cover hunt.

We still haven't made any definite plans, so things can change.

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) Ok. I have been trying to make a challenge plan. I need some structure...a To Read Starter Plan...I need to know my responsibility or assignment so I can organize. I'm sad and pathetic, I know but I have a hard time doing the fly by the seat of my pants reading. HELP ME. LMAO!

No problem :)
Have a pick:
#1 Behind enemy lines - check (or we will) if anybody on another team has a book you've read
#2 this month we need pink covers (this may change by the end of June)
#3 this month we need magenta, blue, red or orange covers (this may change by the end of June)
#5 We need 14 letters from: N.B.R.C. T.O.W.E.R. T.E.A.M.S. R.E.A.D.I.N.G. C.H.A.L.L.E.N.G.E. - letter can be used only once!
#6 green covers, or flower on the cover, moon on the cover, holiday destination on the cover, iconic landmark or monument on the cover, or letters from A.N.Y. R.O.S.E.
#7 titles & authors (first name, last name, combined) with 7 letters, titles (with/without series & authors) with 7 words, 7th book in series, book published in July, title with 7 in it, spelling S.E.V.E.N. U.P.

That's what we need in next two months. See what you have and let us know :D
There is no rule how many books each person needs to read. You can read one, ten, none,... We only need to have 49 of them at the end (7 for each category).
Our plan was to list all the books at the beginning and then later to put them in categories (that way we can switch them if needed). Once when we submit finished category, we can't change it. Since you need structure, you can be the one who'll choose what you'll be reading from above.

Since some of us aren't 'planners' we can always go and fill out gaps :D

message 711: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Another thing to spice it up.... :D

We are doing Hobbit game in June (to try and get our numbers up). It's based on page numbers:

10 pts each - books 160-250 pgs

1 pt each - books 251-500 pgs

5 pts each - books 501 and over

Of course, both games are just for fun and you don't have to participate in them. :D

I wonder what will we do in July? :D
Happy planning :)
And let us know what you'll be doing (at least for spelling) so we don't double it.

message 716: by md (last edited May 27, 2013 03:03PM) (new)

md | 83 comments I just want to double check something (since in a very rare occurence I've been looking through my current library books to see what qualifies for what category), for #7 does the spell it out part work out like #5 or #6 (where you can use any letter rather than all of them)?

message 717: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Oh, yeah. I forgot to mention...

Since we played LK's games during RaT we now have 'cupcakes' that can be used as substitute for book if we got stuck with some book/category. :D

One can do letter from spelling, other can do 7 words, third can do 7th book in series,...

But still we can't repeat letters in #6 & #7 (that part is same as in #5)

message 719: by Ezi (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) For #7: I will read Touch & Geaux (Cut & Run #7) by Abigail Roux but in July (scared to finish that book since the next one isn't due out until 2014)

That's how I felt last year waiting for this one to come out. Now it's not that bad. If you miss the guys, you can always reread them :D
And did you see this? It will be little spoilerish for you at the moment. But when you're done with T&G you can have laugh. And after T&G there is another short story - again spoilerish (view spoiler)

message 721: by Ezi (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) Great news. I just need to find similar series to hit the spot until the next Cut & Run book gets out (after I read book 7 of course)

I don't read teasers. They are like going to an ice cream shop and getting a sample of your favorite flavor. It triples my desire (which i am sure is what is meant to do). I like having my feast laid out before me and going at it like a starving man at a buffett

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments This is what I got so far as I scanned shelves at my library for pink or magenta covers. I am going to try to read these books in June:

Color Ahead - Pink covers:
The Ex Files by Jane Moore Lucy Sullivan Is Getting Married by Marian Keyes

Color Behind - Magenta covers:(they look a lot more magenta in person than here)

Some Like It Wicked (Kincaid Highlander, #1) by Teresa Medeiros I'm Your Girl by J.J. Murray

I also have serveral books that will fit many different letters for spell-it-outs and three books right now that could be used for #1-Behind Enemy Lines

No, you don't. I was just posting what I have right now in case people want to plan around it. For example, not try to find as many pink covers or try to look at other teams shelves. My books are ever changing so even what I post now may not be what I end up reading. It may also give others ideas of what to read. I believe members can read the same book and it will count separately for each of them as long as the rules for the category is met. For example, if both you and I read The Ex Files, we can count it twice as a pink cover.

Both :D
And even then they may not end up there. We thought to make list of all books we read and where they can fit. And later to sort them in categories. That way we can switch books between categories if necessary :D

message 736: by Ezi (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) Sorry, another question? Why are we pointing out blue cover books? I thought the challenge was June-July?

message 737: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Big inter-team challenge is June-July. The one with many rules :D
Day before Mods came with that one, TC started mini challenge to see how many blue covers can we read until the end of May.
I'm not sure if it still on or not. I don't see that she's keeping track somewhere. :D
Maybe since we found out that we need pink covers for 7% challenge, everyone started to read blue covers now for this one (I know I did)

message 738: by Turtlecollector Dennis (last edited May 29, 2013 09:11AM) (new)

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments The challenge is for June/July. Looking for blue covers was just something optional for our team to do for the rest of the month before the challenge starts. Not picking books that had blue covers to read, but checking to see if the books we were already reading had an edition with a blue cover.

Wasn't really a minichallenge I was keeping track of(but I can go back through posts and count them if someone wants me to since there have been more of them than I thought there would be). It was just something to keep brains active until the next challenge started.

The June Hobbit Challenge will be tracked along with the big Inter-team Challenge for June/July. Our mini-challenge just has to do with page count of books, so all the books read will easily count for both challenges no matter what you want to read.

Don't get lost back there! Maybe the cover and #7? Someone left a comment saying they thought that #7 would be difficult to do and so I looked at my library books to see if I had any that qualified and past that I didn't look too hard, though I did see some for #1 that I wouldn't mind reading if I have the time.

*washing camouflage paint off*

There is too many books to check at once :D
I don't think it would be that difficult to find books for #7 since there are many options, including spelling.
Read whatever you want. If you want to read #1 go for it. Since I don't plan my reading upfront and/or look for specific book for specific category, I can't ask you to do that.
With so many of us participating it won't be problem to find a book that fits in missing places :D

message 744: by md (new)

md | 83 comments It suits you!

My "planning" tends to stretch to do I need to read a book before this one? (for series) and do I have any books that need to go back to the library soon? and that's about it.

I'm hiding from my current choice for #1 since it's 345 pages which will make it the longest book I've attempted to read this year/for a while.

message 745: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments LOL! Sorry! I keep picturing that 'hiding from book' part.
I have few long books that are waiting to be read for some time (and I'll have to get to them soon because I need them for other challenges) but they are going to mess with my currently perfect and 'on track' record :(

That's looks like my planning :D Except with series. Depending on series I will read out of order if necessary. That's probably because I grew up on translated books and over here they didn't much care about series orders (in some cases still don't). It wouldn't be strange that 3rd book in series is published first. Then year later 2nd comes out,...
