Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I had no idea that a Cougar, Mountain Lion, Panther and Puma were all names for the same large cat. It's also called a catamount which I've never heard before.

This pic theme is making want to read a paranormal romance with a sexy big cat shifter hero. I don't think I have any on hand :(

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Diana Gabaldon uses catamount in the later Outlander books when they're in the colonies. It's the only place I've ever seen it used, apparently it's short for cat-a-mountain.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I warned you!

Hmmm today's pic theme is...,

I decided that I've been neglecting the "blue" part of our team name. But we could turn this into a "party" theme too and just post cocktails.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments So I know that I am a book or two behind where I should be. I plan on catching up this weekend. Primarily with audiobooks while I do house and yard work.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Drats, I missed the panther posting! I love cats! Well, onto blue party drinks!
Yum! This looks tasty!

How about one of these??

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Ok here's my latest attempt at our August challenge:

Pewter Blues Not Quite An Octagon Challenge

Mods approved: minimum of 1 for categories 2-8 but no need to set a limit on them. (Minimum of 1 meaning 1 book for the team per category not 1 book per player for each category)

1: Spell-GO PEWTER BLUE (12)
2: Beach Reads: books we'd take to read on the beach.
3: 8th in a series, 8 words, 8 letters etc.,
4: Green covers for Peridot birth stone.
5: Books with Sun, Fire on cover or in title, red or orange cover.
6: Summer Fling: books under 300 pages
7: 19th Amendment: books by female authors in honor of women in the US getting the vote on August 18, 1920.
8: Water, Water Everywhere: books set near water, water in title, water on cover etc..,

Need to hit 75

message 421: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I won't be able to read 10 books in a month. Maybe five or six be is pushing it

message 422: by Mary X (last edited Jun 22, 2013 11:30AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments You don't have to read 10 books in August. Read whatever you can. We just as a team need to read 75 to get credit for finishing the challenge. Also more than 1 person can read each category. You don't have to pick one and stick with it.

Also, we are not yet stuck with that. It can still be changed. I just took what people said they liked in the discussion threads.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Love the name Lunar Madness for July!

August Challenge looks good. I will start working on a reading plan in time. I'm already doing the Nora Roberts challenge against Oo (and others! Too many to name) so I'll be reading as much as humanly possible from August 1 to 8 and that'll get us a nice little chuck of #7 taken care of or of course, other categories her books may fit into. I'm really excited about my August reading, I'm just not looking forward to the fact that August means school is drawing near again. We're very much a "summer freedom" family.

message 425: by Riya (new)

Riya Adorable!!!!!!! :D
By the way Mary, I noticed there's an August finished books thread- should we just post in the regular finished books thread until August comes around and then switch?

message 426: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Yes because only books read in August count for the August challenge. Once we complete the 2nd round of the 7% challenge, then I don't need everyone to post when they finish a book. Just as long as you shelf it on your challenge shelf. If you want to do the mini-challenges then you should post your updates in those threads.

We don't have to complete a full 2nd round of the 7%challenge. We just get bonus cupcakes if we finish 5. I don't think we've even used a cupcake yet. But you never know, we might need them for something. Vicky is working on getting us some bonus points for the longer books our team read. She's handling the bouncing cupcake thing.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments We had a slow week. Just updated the spreadsheet for the Sunday update. We only added 19 books this week and we are up to 289. Still pretty darn good considering we were so far behind to begin with.

Holly has reduced her goal because she has a newborn and can't read as much. Frankly I'm impressed that she got 2 finished for us so far. Our team goal is only 1297 so maybe we'll get another player or two soon.

message 431: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I know I am behind a book or two for this. I recently started doing needle work again and it's cutting into my reading time. I tried listening to audiobook today while I stitched and actually kept along with it, so maybe I can do that more often.

Pewter Blue, you have a new member. Another Holly (QC) (052). We have differentiated her by putting a (QC) after her name, until she tells us differently.

message 449: by Michael (new)

Michael (bigorangemichael) | 8 comments I hope I can continue to pull my weight. I really got into Joe Hill's NOS4A2 and it weighed in at close to 700 pages. Great book and one that consumed my attention, but not good for knocking out books in the challenge. :)

message 450: by Riya (new)

Riya Same, I'm going to start reading more now especially since I finished my Hemingway classic- that took AGES!!!
