Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments We are awesome. Even I am getting confused with all the different threads going. But now that the 7% challenge is over, for us anyway, that's less threads to follow.

I am so happy to have people participating in the threads now.

I'm at work so I can't post a pic. (computer is too outdated and it's too complicated). Or I'd post a Happy Dance pic.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I was thinking of posting a moon related mini-challenge for July since the 20th marks the anniversary of the first manned moon landing. Something easy and optional like moon spell out, moon covers, moon in title, werewolves etc..,

Also we need to come up with something for August and I have opened a thread here for ideas. I doubt we will be combined with Cadet Blue again since we now have a full team. PBAug-Challenges

message 253: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments It looks like the August challenge is two weeks long and we can pick what two weeks we want it to be.

If anyone is planning on being on a vacation where you won't be reading and/or posting at any point in August, let us know so we can try to plan accordingly! :)

message 254: by Riya (new)

Riya I don't really mind, but I know that I will be reading a lot more in early August rather than late.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I think some captains from other teams might want to have the challenge last for the entire month because they have slower readers who may get more out of the 30 days than 14. However, I'm not really sure, this is merely speculation on my part and I just wanted to bring it up *just in case*, so people can discuss accordingly. There may be a poll for the length at some point in time. Again: Speculation on my part, not written in stone.

message 256: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I like the idea of making it the whole month. Then people can work it in around vacations and back to school prep and whatnot.

I am going to try and go to Florida to see my dad sometime in August. I don't know yet. My mother, who I work for, might need major surgery this summer and I can't plan it yet. I need to be here when she has it to help with her care and to run her business.

message 257: by Vicky (last edited Jun 12, 2013 06:20PM) (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments I also like the idea of making it a full month challenge. Slow readers aside, I know that summer months can get crazy with vacations, so it would be nice to have the extra buffer. We'll see what the mods say, but in case they don't change their mind, definitely let us know if you plan to be away!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I suck at those puzzles they put up. So any volunteers to do them for this bouncing cupcake thing? The only ones I'm good at are jigsaws.

message 259: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments It looks like Imke is rocking the spot a difference puzzles. I tried #52 but I could not find the 8th difference for the life of me.

(And of course I just went to close the program I had it open in and found it right away. )

message 260: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I could do some, but how do I know what's already done?

message 261: by ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (last edited Jun 13, 2013 05:45PM) (new)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Doesn't matter if they've already been done, Brooke, you can still do them.

Vicky, I found 7/8 on that one, too, but I'll look for 8 later. Taking an AFK break for awhile.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments But, to answer your question -- you can see which puzzles have been completed by a teammate by clicking the June Cupcake Puzzles spreadsheet (not the official name) in the first post of the puzzles thread. Sorry for not having links at the ready, but I'm just here for a quick second before departing back to my couch!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I'm good at jigsaws, crosswords, word finds, spot the difference, doublets (word ladders) and the ones where you try to find the repeated book covers (like the one that's all purple covers), btw. I only suck at sliders. I don't even click sliders anymore.

message 264: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I wish I could do them but I don't understand it all.

message 265: by Riya (new)

Riya If someone could put a link up, because I'm really confused as to what's going on....

message 266: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I'm good at sliders. :) So I can do all the sliders and it won't matter if they are all ready done? Or should I check the spreadsheet and try to just do the ones not done?

message 267: by Riya (new)

Riya I'm really confused now, what is the spreadsheet?!??!?!

message 268: by Vicky (last edited Jun 13, 2013 06:12PM) (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments We earn cupcakes from Captain Cupcake for participating in mini-games and puzzles as posted in this thread. They're totally optional, but we can cash them in to get free passes on challenges or, in the case of the new bouncy cupcake count our chunkster books for an extra point.

Cupcakes are tracked on a Google Spreadsheet here.

Any column with a regular cupcake () only needs to be done once per team. These are jigsaws and slider puzzles.

Any column with a blinkie cupcake () can be done by as many team members as want to participate. In fact, the more team members who complete the blinkie cupcake puzzles, the more options we have when we cash them in. These are Word Finds, Crosswords, Doublets, Find the Duplicates and types of puzzles that are generally a bit more difficult.

Any grey column with the new bouncy cupcake () only needs to be done once per team. On the spreadsheet they're working on separating Cadet and Pewter blue now that we're full teams, so c and p are for cadet and pewter respectively. As a team, we have to complete a whole series to earn any bouncy cupcakes (series length will vary). For example, if the series is 5 puzzles long, we either get 5 bouncy cupcakes for solving all 5 puzzles or we get 0.

For regular and bouncy cupcakes we don't get any bonuses for multiple team members completing them, but if you want to do them just for fun there's no reason not to! :)

Right now we're all caught up - I put in 49 and 51 since the last time the spreadsheet was updated.

message 269: by Riya (new)

Riya Thanks so much!!! That makes a lot more sense now!

message 270: by Riya (new)

Riya Also, are there any puzzles that you need help with??? Sorry about jumping on this a bit late, but I'm always ready to help as much as possible! :)

message 271: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Is Meredith a new player that I don't know about.

Also please don't post in all caps. It's like you're screaming at us. I'm not sure what that post has to do with the challenge.

message 272: by Riya (new)

Riya No, she isn't in our group. I have no idea what that was...

message 273: by Mary X (last edited Jun 13, 2013 06:25PM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Hmm. I wonder why she randomly picked our team to post that?

Thank you Vicky for posting that info.

I'll try and see if I can do one, but I'm not good at those slider puzzles at all. Normally I'm good at crosswords but I had no clue as to the answers on the couple I saw in the puzzle/game thread.

message 274: by Riya (new)

Riya Yeah, if anyone needs any help with any of them just post on here or send me a message or something and I'll try my best. I'd normally go out and just do one, but I'm still slightly confused about it and I'm not sure how good I'd be!

message 275: by Vicky (last edited Jun 13, 2013 06:33PM) (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments No problem Riya, there's a LOT going on in this challenge, I spent a few days reading over all the threads before I felt like I really had a grasp on everything that was happening. We're caught up on Puzzles right now, but definitely watch the puzzle thread and jump in when a new one pops up. :)

Mary - Looks like Meredith is a brand GRer. She must have joined the group and saw our thread on the top. How weird! haha

message 276: by Sarah (last edited Jun 13, 2013 06:35PM) (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Yeah that was weird. I thought the same thing. U know I get authors always requesting a friend request and feel like it is because they want to promote their books?

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Thanks for posting that info, Vicky. I am sorry I wasn't able to be that specific earlier but I haven't been feeling well today so I've only been checking my notifications really quickly tonight. I figured if I just mentioned something then maybe someone would take off from there and explain further.

I do the puzzles because I just enjoy doing them, whether they have been done already or not. I miss them when our challenges end. And then I go to sporcle.com and get sucked into that vortex of games, LOL.

message 278: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I'm more of a Mah Jong & Bejeweled player.

Vicky has volunteered take charge of the bouncing cupcakes. We already have some long books read that we may be able to get extra credit for if we can earn some bouncing cupcakes. I read 2 over 900 pages myself this round. I might be more encouraged to read some of my other big doorstoppers if they were worth extra credit.

message 279: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I was thinking of suggesting that somehow books under 160 could be counted like 2 or 3 for 1. I have a bunch of books that are short that I would love to read and get out of my house. Not sure how they'd work that though.

message 280: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Also I am going to be a little slower updating books for the 2nd round we are doing for the 7% challenge. Just because it's easier to wait and not have to move books around so much.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I love playing Mah Jong on the computer!

Regarding Meredith's post: Looks like an accident, as that was the only post through out NBRC. Usually I would flag it, but I just deleted it this time, since it was only once.

Riya Totally!!!!! Between Sporcle, Mah Jong, and Solitaire I never get anything done!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Goodreads is my main time killer. I could probably read another 50 books a year if I spent less time here.

Karsyn (imzadi) Mary: Harry Dresden's Love Slave wrote: "Goodreads is my main time killer. I could probably read another 50 books a year if I spent less time here."

My other 50 books a year are not read because I write to my penpals. My palling takes up a LOT of time, so I don't get as much time to read. This week, I've started reading every other day, and palling every other day. I'm just more in a reading mood right now. :) I do spend a lot of time here though, and at Swap-Bot.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Yep, Goodreads is a major time-suck for me, too, especially now that I'm pretty active in this group. I'm not sure if I would get more reading done if I didn't spend so much time here, though. Maybe a little bit but not necessarily a lot, because I find myself a little more inspired to read when I start talking books with people here. I've been in reading funks before and so far, since January (when I joined the first Tower Teams Challenge) I haven't hit one for more than a few days, week at the most.

message 291: by Riya (new)

Riya Same!! As of late I've become more involved in a ton more challenges and groups and I honestly come on here and just look around for ages. I spend almost as much time just looking at books on here as I do actually reading them. Then again, it has gotten me a lot more passionate and involved in books again which is awesome.

message 292: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I have less reading funks too since I became active in the challenges here.

I tried to stay off the computer and get some reading done tonight. Listened to an audiobook while I did some yard work and read in the tub.

I did waste some time shopping for needlework supplies though.

message 293: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Word on the street is that Teresa is now on Pewter Blue. So yay! Another active person on our team and now we are closer to the goal.

Penguins!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Thanks, Mary!

I love that picture!! And the next one, hehe. I'll post a penguin later. I need my coffee and muffin still.

My 16 books and I are glad to be here! :)
