Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments OK I started a new thread for a November challenge but I'm kind of blanking on what exactly to put. So if anyone has any ideas for layout or whatnot please PM me. I am just not coming up with anything creative at the moment.

November Challenge

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments November Challenge is up and running. I made it easy and very broad so there's something for everyone.

November Challenge

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I like the challenge, Mary. I just need to figure out if any of my planned reads fit into it first.

Also, Wild Blue Yonder has invited all teams to join their November/December mini-challenge. I guess if the tower challenge ends before their challenge ends, it might just be a fun little challenge to complete regardless. Here is their link: WBY Nov/Dec Mini

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Cadet Blue has a fun game challenge for Nov/Dec, too! Be sure to read the second post, for a rule for non Cadet Blue members!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments OK so some good news for Pewter Blue which we need after that massive hit we took last week. We get Holly (QC) back with all her books and we don't have to give up Corey.

The reason we "lost" Holly (QC) before is because she had no Goodreads activity for over a month and didn't answer pms. But she marked a book read the other day. Because she isn't a high volume reader and the challenge is pretty much over, we can keep her and all her books and Corey. But if anyone else drops out at the last minute we most likely won't get a replacement.

eta: sadly we are still only in 8th place after todays update.

and I could have sworn the top team was only 110 book away last week (with BAPS) but now it looks like they are 159 books away. So what did I look at before???

message 1806: by Mary X (last edited Nov 03, 2013 12:58PM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I am total confused now because I am looking at the spreadsheet and it says last updated 10/20/13. Off to investigate.

eta: I guess the spreadsheet that's linked in the update thread is outdated. Moonstone is only 62 books away. So I think we have 1 more week, 2 tops.

You are tied with TMP for sixth place.

message 1809: by Riya (new)

Riya We're only 4 books behind 5th place you guys!! We totally can make it to the top 5 :D

message 1810: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments But in the 2nd list we are 8th.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Which list is the one that counts? I'm confused. If we are tied with TMP for 6th place at this time then we are probably going by the first results, not the adjusted thing, right? Does the second list matter? I don't understand the point of the second list.

message 1812: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Just another way to look at things, Teresa. We will declare the winner by number of books read and BAPs earned. However, the Percent of Goal is pretty impressive to review, as EL has a goal of 1,396 - as compared to MT's 1,351.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Well, I figured it was just another way to look at things but didn't know if it was used to determine the winner or is just a 'for fun' sort of statistic thing. That's what I meant by not understanding the point of the second list but it doesn't come across in text. Thanks for 'splainin'!

message 1814: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Does the quiet mean everyone is frantically reading as much as they can?

message 1815: by NBRC Book Ninja (new)

NBRC Book Ninja | 1025 comments This is the NBRC Book Ninja! Just when you thought you couldn't earn any more Book Advantage Points (BAPs), I appear!

You never know when I will pop up, or what I will ask for. These little mini tasks will be worth one or two (1 - 2) BAPs.

For the first task, I will grant your Team one (1) BAP for any Team where two members read books by the same author. They may be the same book, or not. They may be under different pseudonyms, too; it matters not to me!

You have until the 23rd of November to earn these points.

Until the next surprise.

Post finished task here.

message 1816: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I asked and it's not for books already read unless they were read starting Nov 1st. I will take a look at some completed books and see if we have already accidentally earned this.

I can plan to read the following authors in the next week or so if anyone has any interest:

JR Ward
Louise Penney
Alan Bradley
Barbara Cleverly
Shannon Stacey
Linda Lael Miller
Dorothy Garlock

message 1817: by Sarah (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments mods say just have to be finished Nov 1st so going back to add some more to above list.

message 1820: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Too bad I refuse to pay another dime to Veronica Roth's gross profits for horrible writing otherwise I would have been reading Allegiant which would have worked with Riya.

message 1821: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments OK list is all updated. I have some Cindy Gerard books, maybe I can work one into my reading plan.

message 1822: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Nicely done, Mary: HDLS. Very organized.

message 1823: by Corey (new)

Corey (coreyhuffman) | 389 comments Haha, Sarah, I totally plan on reading Allegiant, and I don't find her writing horrible, Insurgent had some interesting literary devices, but I love Divergent.

message 1824: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Corey - wait until you read Allegiant - the reviews have been devastating - a lot of fans have been very very disappointed. I would like to see what you think? However I am gonna sit the third one out - plus I already know a lot about it and the end because I have read so many threads now about it.

message 1825: by Corey (new)

Corey (coreyhuffman) | 389 comments Yeah, I've been trying to keep away from the threads. My library just purchased the audio book but not the actual book, so I'm trying to decide whether I should just listen to it on my commutes, but I like books in hand, it's hard to listen. I have also heard about some of the disappointments, but I must know what happens next.

message 1826: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Been reading and playing. Reading Maya Banks right now, will pick something from the list next. Can do Patterson, Zuiker, and Patrick Lee. Won't touch another Roth either. I didn't see reviews beforehand and did read it. Wish I hadn't.

message 1827: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I love Maya Banks and could read one of hers too.

message 1828: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Mary: Harry Dresden's Love Slave wrote: "I love Maya Banks and could read one of hers too."

She's one of my favorite authors. Reading the newest Colters' now.

message 1829: by Riya (new)

Riya Sarah wrote: "Corey - wait until you read Allegiant - the reviews have been devastating - a lot of fans have been very very disappointed. I would like to see what you think? However I am gonna sit the third one ..."

Yeah- Allegiant was quite bad. Talk about one of the most disappointing endings ever...

message 1830: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I started a Maya Banks book today. Don't know how quickly I'll get through it because I have it in print and I'll be busy until Saturday.

Sweet Temptation (Sweet, #4) by Maya Banks

message 1831: by Corey (new)

Corey (coreyhuffman) | 389 comments You guys are breaking my heart, but I guess I really have Veronica Roth to blame.

message 1832: by Mary X (last edited Nov 07, 2013 12:33PM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Barbara marked a Veronica Roth book read yesterday after I did my list so I am going to submit that author from Riya and Barbara for our point.

eta: submitted. That was easy.

message 1833: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Enjoy it Mary. I LOVE the Sweet series. :)

And a heads up from me ~ I saw they are doing the non-reading games. I likely won't be able to do any. My computer bit the dust and we can't afford another, so I am only able to get online on my Fire. It's hard to do anything more than a few sentences. When encryption ones are posted, feel free to let me know and I can probably go down to do it at the library.

NBRC Book Ninja | 1025 comments Task #2 - Spell-It-Out F.A.L.L.

Same spell it out rules as before. (Character names included.) One member, or four, it matters not to me.

Any books 160 pages or greater, finished by November 1st, or after.

You may NOT use books used in other November tasks.

You will be granted two (2) BAPs.

You have until the 23rd of November to earn these points.

Until the next surprise.

Post finished task here.

message 1835: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Finished the Maya. Will start the Zuiker.

message 1836: by Riya (new)

Riya The FALL spell out is quite easy for us- based on the list you posted above Mary, so there's another 2 points!

message 1837: by Sarah (last edited Nov 07, 2013 10:30PM) (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I am confused - so we only spell FALL - four books - and they can't be from what tasks? I use my books in challenges all the time that are personal but do they just mean team challenges?

message 1838: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments We can't use the books I submitted for the 2 books from the same author and 2 different team members. So I can't use the 2 Veronica Roth books: 1 from Barbara and 1 from Riya.

message 1839: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments It does look like we have it done already and just with author names. I'm glad I made that list!

message 1840: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Task 2 has been submitted.

I also was the test bunny for a word find and I'm hoping that got us a cupcake at least.

message 1841: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I see there is an encryption. I'll probably head to the library tomorrow, so I'll be able to do it then.

message 1843: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I can do the jigsaw puzzle tonight.

message 1844: by Karsyn (last edited Nov 10, 2013 11:26AM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Sorry I didn't get to the library yesterday, definitely going on Friday.

Finished the Zuiker today. For 5 books in this week, hope it helps. May try a quick Patterson. Gotta read a Richelle Mead for a book club at sometime as well.

Never mind about the Patterson right now, was recommended a James Dashner, gotta read it now!! :)

message 1845: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Sorry my reading has slowed down.

message 1846: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments We are in 5th place this week. Moonstone is only 20 books/points away from 1350. I'm not sure how it's going to work when they hit it. If we will just to go the next update for the final placing or if once they hit 1350, no more books are counted for anyone towards the final rankings.

message 1847: by Lisa Kay (new)

I guess I'll put it to a vote, using the "sister" group to send out a message/poll.

message 1848: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments We are in 5th place? That is really amazing. Some of my team mates have really been reading and you deserve all the credit.

message 1849: by Riya (new)

Riya Keep it up you guys :D

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Great job, everyone who did some reading this week! I admit I've been slacking off on mine. I just had a week where I couldn't get into anything I tried to read, but then over a few days off work I started and finished a book so I contributed one, woo! lol
