Sarah | 3273 comments Sorry everyone - my reading will be slowing down for awhile - dealing with a sudden death in the family and have slowed down on the reading.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I'm sorry to hear about that, Sarah! *hugs*

message 1753: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Thank you Teresa.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments It's ok Sarah. I'm sorry about your loss. Take whatever time you need.

Corey (coreyhuffman) | 389 comments Hello everyone, thanks for the Welcome. I look forward to being a part of Pewter Blue.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Sorry for your loss, Sarah.

message 1757: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Welcome, Corey!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments (I deleted my coed comment because I forgot about Michael. He's so quiet)

We can keep 11 of Holly (QCs) books. Corey is added to the spreadsheet and I have adjusted Holly's books. Total is still off because I didn't do an update on everyone's books. I'll do that for the next update. Hopefully the way the players were spreadout from Banana Mania won't bump us too far down the totem pole to recover.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Is everyone mini-challenged out? Or is there any interest in doing something small within Pewter Blue for November? Something super simple like fall related spell outs or cover hunts or something.

message 1760: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Well I can add one book this week - The Rosie Project. It is just what I needed. I think I will do another light and feel good read again.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Sounds good, Sarah. I've added that to my TBR since you spoke so highly of it.

I might be up for a mini group challenge in November, Mary. I prefer cover hunts/colors more than spell outs but I'd be up for whatever majority chooses.

message 1762: by Mary X (last edited Oct 26, 2013 02:40PM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I was kind of thinking a fall themed cover hunt type thing. Orange, yellow & red covers, leaves, pumpkins, turkeys etc., for covers. With a spell out option for those who prefer that.

message 1763: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I'm always up for challenges. :) I'm always reading so having a direction in which to read is always good. A few days ago, I wasn't even sure what to read next. :)

I'll do whichever. I can handle spell it outs easy, and I'm sure I have plenty of fall color covers somewhere in my TBR pile.

message 1764: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I always plan my books in advance for the most part, but will fit stuff in if I can.

I will also finish The Summer Book by Tove Jansson tonight. It is only 170 pages. It better count - but it can be added to the count for the Sunday update.

message 1765: by Riya (new)

Riya Got a bit behind on my reading since I went with my varsity tennis team to Division 2 State (which we got second at!) Luckily I got really far ahead these past few weeks so I'm fine, but I'll definitely be reading more from now on since tennis is over!

message 1766: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Now we're all the way down to 8th place. How the heck did that happpen? Down 4 spots in 1 week?

message 1767: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Can anyone help us do some sliders and the cryptogram? I got all the spot the difference and some of the jigsaw puzzles. I started the cover hunt thing and then kind of forgot about it but I'll see if I can finish it up. Maybe if earn our last cupcakes we can redeem some more and make up some groung.

I think we dropped so much between a couple of teams that were lower in goal doing really well with their pages, some other teams cashing in cupcakes and the division of Banana Mania and Cadet Blue.

message 1768: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I think it was probably the division of the teams.

message 1769: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Yikes. That sucks. It's gotta be the division I guess. I finished up a bunch this week.

I can do the cryptograms, sliders too. I haven't checked on 'em lately. What Oct puzzles still need done?

message 1770: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I feel a little deflated after this update. I don't think we have time to regain much lost ground. Unless we still have a lot of cupcakes to cash in and no one else does.

Maybe if we put in a valiant effort we can get up to 5th.

message 1771: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments OK here's the puzzles we need finished by Nov 1st:

#180 cryptogram
182 slider (jigsaw is done)
183 slider (jigsaw done)
184 slider (jigsaw done)
178 slider (jigsaw done)
175 cover hunt (I started this but haven't finished and will not be annoyed in anyway if someone does it)

message 1772: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Thank you Mary for doing all that. I never could figure out how to do the sliders.

message 1773: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I'll do the cryptogram right now, just gotta find it. I'll start the cover hunt if I get the cryptogram done quickly.

I'm sorry you are a little deflated. We're doing really well and we'll get a little back and if we don't, it's been so fun anyways. It's all good. :D

message 1774: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I can't do the sliders either. I only did the jigsaws. My kid is good at the sliders.

message 1775: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Oh, I can do sliders as well, but when I tried to save it before, it never saved right. I'm headed to bed, but I'll do the sliders in the morning as well.

Just sent 180 in, my husband distracted me so I didn't get right to it. :) I believe it's right.

message 1776: by Riya (new)

Riya What's the link to the spreadsheet with all our places?

message 1777: by Mary X (last edited Oct 29, 2013 06:38AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments WEEKLY UPDATE

This is the mods spreadsheet. You can see on the spreadsheet that this will probably over in a couple of weeks unless the top 4 teams all stop reading. Which is highly unlikely.

message 1778: by Riya (new)

Riya Wow...I have no idea how we got so behind...I'll miss this challenge so much, but I bet they'll be making another round soon enough once this one ends....we can still try to advance as much as possible in these last few weeks!!!!!!

message 1779: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I did the first slider, and it gave the last piece when I did it, but it didn't give me the little prompt that said I did it correctly. :( Sigh. It's probably because of all my popup blockers and such. I'll try again later.

message 1780: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I think the next round will be put off until after the Holidays.

message 1781: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I give up. I have done the slider 6 times now, with 3 different screen grabs. It will NOT save the "You Win" thing. It only saves the page. If someone wants to tell me how to do it (I have Firefox) I'll do it again, but for now I give up. It's too frustrating. I tried.

message 1782: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I have to hit FN & PrtScrn at once and then save it in Paint.

message 1783: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) That doesn't work for me either, I tried. :(

message 1784: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments I did all the sliders and the cover hunt thing, so we are all caught up on puzzles.

If you have Windows Vista, 7 or 8 there is a program that comes with Windows called "Snipping Tool", which is what I use. It has a rectangular snip that lets you drag a rectangle around any part of your screen and just save what is in the rectangle.

message 1785: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Awesome thank you Vicky!

I don't think we have much longer so we should probably redeem any we can as soon as possible. Assuming we have books for them.

message 1786: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Thanks Vicky. I just could not get what I had to work, it just wouldn't save the win part. I have Win 7, so I'll look at the Snipping Tool tomorrow.

So, from what you said Mary, the challenge ends in a few weeks? By end of Nov I assume? Then doesn't pick up again til spring? :( That sucks. There needs to be a mini tower for those who holidays don't affect. I guess that'd just be a tower of me. Hehe!!

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Mary: Harry Dresden's Love Slave wrote: "I don't think we have much longer so we should probably redeem any we can as soon as possible. Assuming we have books for them."

Yep, I'm working on it. I can only submit 15 a day though.

message 1788: by Mary X (last edited Oct 30, 2013 05:41AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments There's no official end date but the 1st place team was only 110 books away from goal at the last update. I think it's safe to assume they are even closer now. My guess is that the 2nd and 3rd place teams are probably trying to up their reading too and make one last push for victory. It's what I'd do. But I don't remember what the difference is between the top 3. I don't think it's much. They all probably have more cupcakes from October to redeem too.

I really thought we'd finish in the Top 5 but that division of teams into others might have stopped that for us. We put in a valiant effort for a later formed team though.

message 1789: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Well I have enjoyed the team and will miss everybody when it is over. I personally met some goals - like instead of four books a month I was able to get in 6 to 7 books.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I'm happy with how well we did, regardless of where we end up. We had quite the revolving door of members for awhile, too.

message 1791: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) We did have way too many revolving members and we did great despite that. Plus, it's been tons of fun!

message 1792: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I think we had a high number of non-chatty players too although some of our less chatty players were very steady readers so it was OK.

I will definitely do another round but I won't captain again. It's too time consuming.

message 1793: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (deja05) | 732 comments I'm happy with how we did too although it would be nice if we ended up in the top 5 teams. Will we be doing a November challenge of some kind?

This group definitely pushed me to read more than I would have normally and I made a good sizeable dent in my TBR pile!!

message 1794: by Riya (new)

Riya I loved this group so much!!! It was really nice checking in with everyone everyday, and I feel so proud when I see how many books I've read for the challenge! And we should try a last strain to make into the top 5? Cause we do still have cupcakes that are being redeemed and stuff, so if we read a bit more we can make it!!

message 1795: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) So, are we gonna do something for Nov? Go out with a bang? :)

We could do the theme stuff like Mary suggested, or what about just a book RAT, like the pages only reading shorter (160-200) books, or books you love so much you'll finish in a day. We can focus on trying to punch out a book a day each, or as close as possible, so if we can get a last little surge.

message 1796: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I like the short books idea.

If I put a challenge together do you guys want a new thread for it in the sister group or just do it in this thread?

message 1797: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I vote for a pretty new thread, but only if it's not too much of a PITA. :)

message 1798: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I think I might do some sort of pick your own challenge type thing with some different options.

message 1799: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (deja05) | 732 comments I'd vote for a new thread but you can do whatever is easiest for you Mary. I like the short book idea too.

message 1800: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I don't have time to do anything today. Maybe tonight depending on how late I am driving teenagers around.
