I threw my back out. So today should be a good reading day for me. I will probably listen to an audiobook while I fold laundry and work on my tapestry. Or anything I can do sitting down or that doesn't involve a lot of movement or heavy lifting. Last time I did this I did too much and ended up unable to move at all for a few days.

Hey guys we dropped down to 7th place!
Yes we did but we are literally one book behind the team in sixth - I think?

After looking at the spreadsheet, I see our problem. The few groups taht recently passed us have a good 50 or so Bonus Points more. Not sure why we have so few compared to them, but if we can get more of those, we should be able to catch up to them quickly.
I don't know why they have so many more. We did all the mini-challenges for BAPs. We've been earning cupcakes.
Have we been using all the cupcakes? Because I think someone was saying that we have them, but haven't used them.
I have asked for a replacement player.
Okay- hopefully that will help. And I think Vicky was saying that we have enough books to redeem the cupcakes- but based on how she said it, I'm not sure if we've actually redeemed them yet? So maybe we should try doing that, and then we can actually reassess where we are?
I don't know if I mentioned this anywhere but I raised my goal to 64.
Vicky has been manning the cupcakes for us. It's possible that we will have more BAPS coming when she redeems some more cupcakes for our longer books. Maybe she's waiting for approval on some or something? I know our team was formed after the first Read a thon in May and so we don't have BAPS for that. I was still on Cadet Blue for that mini-challenge. But we did all the others.
I know for awhile we had more longer books than cupcakes. But we were able to catch up on cupcakes when they did the cupcake makeup thing.
I'm not sure- she was saying in the post that we have earned like 91 of them, and we have enough books to redeem them (which I feel implies that we haven't redeemed them yet).
Is there any place to see how we've redeemed all of our cupcakes so far?
It takes awhile for cupcake redemption to get approved so we probably won't see our cupcakes until the next SU, if not the one after that.
We should make sure that we've at least tried to get them all redeemed though, since I don't think there's any benefit in having them but not using them.
Maybe Vicky has a spreadsheet that shows how we've redeemed them. I know there is a column on the SU that shows how many BAP we have earned from the various cupcakes.
That's how I read it too. I'm sure she has a plan of some kind. I just sent her a PM asking. She may be holding off for a bit so she can rearrange if she needs to. I'm assuming once they're redeemed they're gone.
I think Vicky is staying on top of the cupcake redemption. It's just that the process isn't so easy. She has to get word counts verified and some of the books may not be so easy to verify, etc. There's a thread where team captains turn in cupcakes for the chunksters and triple threats and so on in the group that's made just for team captains/mods. I know from past experience as a captain, it wasn't as simple as just, "Here are the books I'm redeeming for cupcake BAP, give me my points." It sometimes took over a week for just 5 of my books to be approved. The mods have a lot of teams that they have to approve for and find word counts for and so on, it's a long, grueling task for all involved. I'm confident that Vicky is making sure we take advantage of all the cupcakes we can.
Yes, once you redeem a chunkster, triple threat, etc cupcake it is gone.
If this link works, it'll show you Pewter Blue on the Sunday UPdate. Look at columns R, S, T: those are the cupcakes we've redeemed for BAP. Looking at October, there are no cupcakes redeemed yet. Vicky mentioned a few days ago (somewhere on page 34 of this thread) that she's working on our cupcake redemptions. She is probably still working on getting them approved so that's why we have 0 for October yet.
That's why I think we look behind on points. She is probably making sure she has all our ducks in a row. It doesn't look like she's redeemed any since 9/14. But it certainly appears that she is keeping track of them and it's probably just a matter of submitting them for approval. We should probably do that soon as this won't go on much longer.
Oh okay! In that case, there's no reason for us to worry about dropping low. As long as we keep getting our books steadily in, the cupcakes should get us back to being equal with the others!
I don't how helpful this will be with the read-a-thon but I have been reading all freaking day. I've either been sitting and reading or listening to an audiobook while I do other stuff. I should have a really good page count today. Once I finish a couple of longer books I have going, I'm going to try knocking out some short ones. Started a new box for the thrift store and the sooner I fill it with read books, the sooner I can get it out of the house.
Right! And quite a few teams have received their cupcake BAP in October, while we have 0 so that's why we've gone down on the list, most likely.
Sorry I haven't been up to my normal reading pace. Since the RAT was about pages, I'm reading more of my longer books that I put off, but that doesn't help out too much with the overall book total. Hopefully we'll bounce right back when the cupcakes and such are added.
When I finish A Fine Balance today or tomorrow it is a 600 page read.
We have more points coming, don't worry!Because of all the "series" of puzzles where you have to complete all the puzzles in the series to earn the cupcakes, I find it easier to wait until the end of the month to redeem them. Unfortunately, I've been super busy this month (work, bathroom remodel, halloween/renaissance faire costumes, reading, the list goes on!) so I haven't redeemed September's yet.
I have the list ready on my spreadsheet, I just have to put it into post form. I will have some time this week to work on it, so we should have another 60-or-so BAP for the next Sunday update! If everything stays mostly the same for next week that will put us back up to 4th or a very close 5th.
I'm at the point now where I have submitted (or plan to submit) all the books that I could easily verify with AR BookFind. It's much easier for everyone involved to have a book that can be verified there.
That said, I wanted to cross reference our list of books with the list of approved/unapproved list the mods have been keeping, since that is another way that books are easily verifiable. Because of the way their list is formatted vs. the way mine is formatted, it's not as easy as I would have hoped. Here is the Approved/Not Approved Books List from the mods. If you have a few minutes, take a quick peek and see if there are any books on there that you have read that I do not have on my list (linked below).
As a preface to linking my spreadsheet, please don't be offended if a book you read is not listed. When choosing which books to submit, I first chose books that had verifiable word counts on AR BookFind since, as I said earlier, it is much less work for everyone involved in the verification process. Here is my tracking spreadsheet.

Hi guys. Just a reminder that the read-a-thon ends on October 19th BST 4:00 PM . That's 11 am EST which is my time. If you haven't reported your pages in a while or haven't had much reading time, remember any little amount helps us. So even if you only read 5 pages one day, report them so I can add them to our total.

I just submitted the last 3 spot the difference puzzles (174, 176 & 178)
I got a bunch done on the cover hunt thingy but I had to put it down. I will try to work on it again. I have a couple of #'s that I'm just not finding the right book covers to fit.

We're up to 110 BAP (83 from Cupcakes). I just posted another 15 for approval so we should definitely be at 125 for the Sunday Update.I have another set of 15 that I will post tomorrow, but I'm not sure if it will be approved in time to be reflected for THIS week's Sunday update. :)
Awesome Vicky!!! Once we get all those in, we'll definitely be up there! And hopefully the Halloween challenges will help us a bunch :)

Way to rebound guys. Thanks to Vicky's hard work with our cupcakes and our excellent reading skills, we have moved back up to 5th place. I'm sure we can hold it and maybe even move up to 4th. I think we only dropped last week because some teams redeemed cupcakes before we did.
Oh and we earned 21 bonus points for the Read-A-thon. Not the highest but I think it was pretty much expected that the top few teams would be the big winners on that.
How did other teams earn more? I thought with the change to it, everyone was earning the same, if everything was completed?
That was for the Book Hunt. If you did all the steps on the book hunt you got the same points. But for the pages read part it was based on that ratio thing they did which was based our our pages read & our tower teams book goal (not our read-a-thon page goal)There were a couple of teams that didn't do both read-a-thon events and so didn't get a lot of points.
The 21 is just for the Read Like A Banshee part. We got more for the Book Hunt.
Oh, thanks for explaining. I never understood much about these most recent challenges.

◆ We have decided to close the sign-up thread to the Tower Teams Reading Challenge, except for replacement players who exactly fit our needs.
◆ We are going to fill the gaps from absent Team Members on the Teams from within our current Team Members.
◆ In order to do this, we will reassign the Team Members of Banana Mania and the Mods of Cadet Blue to various Teams. We have been working on this for quite awhile and have tried to be as equable as possible.
◆ In an effort to keep Banana Mania as together as possible, we are moving some of the Mods.
