Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I have not given up on the red/yellow covers one, I just haven't had a long block of time to do it w/o getting interrupted multiple times and messing it up. Maybe I can finish it this afternoon when I'm at work by myself. If the phone doesn't ring too much.

message 1603: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Just an FYI: I am going out of town this weekend and will probably not be online. I will be able to read some and will just mark my finished books when I get back.

Vicky will be doing the update early this weekend, probably Saturday night.

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments I just did puzzles 147, 148, and 149. My hand hurts from all the decoding. :{ lol

message 1605: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I did 146 earlier.

message 1606: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Sorry I didn't see 149 earlier, I love the decoder ones!

How do you do them, that it hurts your hand Vicky? Do you individually change each letter?

Read-a-Thon Duration: October 4th BST 4:00 PM to October 19th BST 4:00 PM

We decided to use the Greenwich hour for two reasons:
1.Is the "zero" hour. All time zones relate to it
2.Daylight saving time change will only occur on October 27th, so it won't interfere with read-a-thon timings.

message 1616: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Can players let me know if they plan to do one or both of the October challenges in the team discussion thread. Also how you can contribute: how many pages you want to aim for if doing the read-a-thon and what themes you can do if doing the book hunt.

You can find the team threads for these challenges here: PewterBlue

message 1617: by Karsyn (last edited Sep 25, 2013 10:43AM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I won't be reading this month, as much as I normally do. I'll aim for about 7-10 books.

I can try to do spell-it-out, or give a general idea of pages by the books I know I will read and just add a few more to it.

Dunno if it's good enough, so just LMK. Either way, I'll be reading, just not my usual 15-20.

message 1618: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments So Brooke you will only be doing the book hunt challenge? I need a page goal for people doing the read-a-thon part.

message 1619: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Whichever you think is best for me, since I'm not going to be doing much this time. I can figure out some pages, or just do a spell it out. It's really what you think is best. Page wise, let's say 2000 for me. I definitely won't be reading much, so that should be doable for me this month.

message 1620: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I will do the read-a-thon too.

message 1621: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Keep in mind that there is no requirement to meet or exceed your page goal - it's just fun to have a goal (or so Sonia says! ;P). The only page count that matters is the pages you actually read during the challenge.

I did some math for people to use as guidelines. I'm going to post it in our RAT discussion thread.

message 1622: by Riya (new)

Riya I'm doing the read-a-thon :D

message 1623: by Imke (new)

Imke (immie75) | 1644 comments Hi all,
Greatings from Turkey. I will be participating in both challenges and I will think about my page number goal. When will you need to know? I'll be home again on the 29th. :(

message 1624: by Mary X (last edited Sep 26, 2013 06:33AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Brooke the book hunt and the read-a-thon are only from the 4th to the 19th.

message 1625: by Mary X (last edited Sep 26, 2013 07:02AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Changes to events, themes and participants are allowed till October 14th. So if you join and find that you are just too busy, you can drop out up until the 14th. (except is completed tasks that have been submitted, once submitted they cannot be changed)

So Brooke, you can join the read-a-thon and book hunt. If by the 13th you feel like you cannot get close to your page goal you can drop out of the page tracking one. You could stay in the book hunt and just do what you can.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Hey team we are just a couple of books away from 750. I'm sure we'll hit it before the update tomorrow. I know I'm aiming to finish another audiobook today.

Oh and we're only behind 1st place Moonstone by 177 books. We can catch up with them easy peasy.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Finished a couple of books this week!

message 1632: by Riya (new)

Riya About to finsih another book right now, and I"ll probably finish 2 more by tomorrow!!!

message 1633: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I am not sure if I will finish The Book Thief by tomorrow or not. It might be tomorrow night. But I really adore the book so far.

message 1634: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Just turned in puzzles 152, 154, 155, 156.

I like the spot the difference & jigsaw ones.

message 1635: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Sorry - gonna start on other books for now and hold off on the second half of the book theif for the challenge.

Riya Sarah wrote: "I am not sure if I will finish The Book Thief by tomorrow or not. It might be tomorrow night. But I really adore the book so far."

That's my all time favorite book Sarah!!! Glad you're enjoying it :)

message 1637: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Yeah I thought Death would count as a supernatural creature or having special abilities so I am saving it for our challenge. I have read about 200 pages and I love it. The movie comes out in November:)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments The Book Thief is one of my favorites, too. I cried for about the final 50 pages. I had my tissue on stand-by. The stuff with Max just tore me up.

message 1639: by Riya (new)

Riya I definitely cried for the last 50 pages. Everything with Rudy just killed me. I was bawling for ages during the end.

message 1640: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I submitted the update at we are at 757. Which means we added 11 books since yesterday. Way to go team.

Also we earned 9 BAPS for the September challenge.

I am actually ahead 3 books. I decided to pick up some books I had put down and get them finished. Not much reading done for me today so far but I will start a new audiobook today.

Yes, the Rudy stuff killed me, too. I think I need to re-read this because I'm forgetting little things.

Yeah, it was such a powerful book that i really feel I should reread- it seems to be one which you would get even more out of the second time.

message 1643: by Riya (new)

Riya Seems like we're pretty solid in 4th place now, so hopefully we can keep reading more and start gaining on the top 3. They're quite a bit ahead of us, but they're not too far from each other, so if we gain a foothold up there we'll definitely have a chance :D

message 1644: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments If we one the October book hunt challenge it may help.

message 1645: by Riya (new)

Riya Definitely! WE should try to really work towards that then.

message 1646: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I'm just hoping no one gets offended if a task they had planned to read for gets submitted before they finish their books. This one is time sensitive and I can't hold tasks up if their finished because someone else is also reading for that.

I didn't get to fill in many spots in the spreadsheet because they were all taken. But there might be teams that finish in a just a couple of days and I don't see people reading several books each in 2 or 3 days. I plan on reading books that fit multiple themes and then using them to finish tasks as others read.

message 1647: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Ok we have 8 players actively participating in the Book Hunt. If we can all read 2 books in the first couple of days of the challenge, we can knock it out quick. So it may not be the time to plan door stoppers if we can help it, unless we have time to knock them out quick.

message 1648: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Yes but I was under the impression that we could start reading prior? I asked the question several times and was told yes. Since 160 pages count as a book read I thought as long as you had at least that many pages left it would be fair enough. Am I wrong?

message 1649: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Also don't we get clues? How do they make it so the other teams can't see your clues?

message 1650: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Yes you can start reading ahead of time. I don't think they expect everyone to have a couple of books halfway finished though.

I plan on starting my Neil Gaiman book ahead of time. It's not long but he's hit or miss for me. I don't want to waste valuable read-a-thon time deciding I don't like it enough to finish.
