Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Also most of our team is well above the on track percentage. I don't know if they will give us a replacement or suggest that some players up their goals.

Banana Mania will probably have top priority with new players because their goal is still low and they are a newly forming team.

If you have a high percentage of completed books, you might want to think about upping your goal. Unless you are only ahead because of the Summer or know you are heading into a really busy time where you won't get much reading done.

eta: Also we have been offered another new tracker but since Nancy removed her books, I say we stay put for now. The mods know she is not on our team anymore and that our goal is lower. The game is half-over at this point anyway.

Imke (immie75) | 1644 comments Hi Mary

Sorry to hear Nancy has left the challenge.

I can up my goal, I'm 20 books ahead at the moment. I think I can add 25. Let me know if you want me to increase the numbers.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Welcome to Pewter Blue, Marianne!

message 1458: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Welcome Marianne. Now that you have joined you can't leave. Just kidding but we have had some turn over. It would be nice if you stayed. You got very lucky with this group. We have grown as a group and we have really climbed up in this challenge.

message 1459: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I could up too if need be. Let me know.

message 1460: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Welcome Marianne!

Let us know if we still need to bump up some numbers Mary. I dunno if I can bump mine up by a lot, but if we need it, I can certainly try. :)

message 1461: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I am ahead. I could probably up 10 books.

message 1462: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I didn't hear Nancy left the challenge though. :( I thought she had decided to stay - but sometimes life is more important - I understand.

message 1463: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Hmm. Somehow my post saying Nancy left is gone. It was right before my other post. Maybe the mods deleted it? I don't think I said anything wrong in it but it's OK if they did. Or maybe I edited the post and accidentally deleted what was in it.

message 1464: by Riya (new)

Riya Sorry about Nancy; I didn't know she was leaving :( And welcome Marianne!!!!

message 1465: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I didn't know she was leaving either.

But we will survive. We already have a great new addition.

message 1466: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments So even with Nancy leaving, we held at 5th place. Pretty darn good.

message 1467: by Riya (new)

Riya That's great!!! If we keep at our pace, hopefully we can start moving up!

message 1468: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Yes. We held our position. I know it isn't first but five is my lucky number;). And we got a new member so quickly.

message 1469: by Riya (new)

Riya Yeah- that was great!! And haha maybe we'll go straight from five to one then :P

message 1470: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Sorry my reading has slowed down. It is just I really am needing to focus on Midnight's Children, but it is such a dense read - a brain work out. It is not an easy read and it doesn't read fast - I absolutely love it though but reading other stuff with it is being too distracting. It is so good so far on many levels.

message 1471: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments No worries Sarah. I fell behind again this week too because of my mother's second surgery. (she's at home recovering now). But I chose some shorter audiobooks for my dog walking and managed to catch up a little bit.

I also took up needlework again. If I'm working alone, I can listen to an audiobook while I stitch. But my daughter has decided she has an interest in needlework and now we work together. I took up needlework again because I am trying to lose weight and I don't snack when I stitch but I do when I read.

message 1472: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Welcome to the team, Marianne! :)

I was hoping to get some more reading in but with my fiancee visiting and the crab feast things have just been crazy busy. I'm currently in Canada visiting my fiancee. He's returning to school next week so he has some house projects to finish up this week which will give me some down time to read, but probably not as much as usual.

Back to things as usual after Labor Day! Phew.

message 1473: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Just found out that my Grand'mere passed away last night. She was 92 and very sick so it's not a surprise. The whole family has been waiting for the news to come everyday for 3 months.

But it means I might not be around much for a few days, especially in the evenings.

She's actually my step-father's mother but I am very close to that family and my mother has been with him for over 20 years. She raised his kids. My daughter is going to be heartbroken.

message 1474: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Oh, I am so sorry to hear that, but 92, most of us are not that lucky. That was a good long life. Go spend time with your family, we totally understand.

message 1475: by Riya (new)

Riya So sorry to hear that Mary. It totally makes sense for you to fall behind on readings and not be around. Hopefully the rest of us will read more and make up for it!

message 1476: by Mary X (last edited Aug 26, 2013 12:21PM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Her favorite priest is out of town until Saturday. So the wake/funeral might not be until then.

It's almost a relief as it was a long slow death for her. A year ago though she was still a vibrant, active woman. But in December she was diagnosed with cancer and she opted not to have chemo at her age.

message 1477: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I'm sorry for your loss, Mary: HDLS.

message 1478: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I am a nurse and take care of all age groups but the geriatric patients I see that live to their nineties tend to be the healthiest elderly - the smallest medication lists and the least extensive past medical histories, it is just something I have always noted.

message 1479: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments OMG. I am getting behind in this month's reads and now they are piling up onto my huge list of reads for next month. This Midnight's Children is sooo good but really slowing me down.

message 1480: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Good Morning. Everyone seems to be handling Grand'mere's passing pretty well because of her age and the fact that she was suffering. It looks like the wake & funeral will be next week. They are holding to her wishes that her favorite priest perform the service and he's doesn't come back from vacation until Saturday.

message 1481: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Well for news on the Team:

We are already back up to over 600 books. Marianne made up 18 of the books we lost with Nancy leaving. Thanks Marianne!

Sadly, I am once again behind a book :-(. But I've got a few that are almost done and I'll make an effort to get some of them finished before starting any new ones.

message 1482: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Does the quiet mean everyone is busy reading?

So I just noticed that it says I posted at 4:40 am yesterday. I was sound asleep at 4:40 am and it usually shows my correct time zone for my posts. So not sure what's up with that.

message 1483: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Wow it is quiet. Got done with my twelve hour shift today am am checking in. 1 New post - Mary - and that was like 15 hours ago.

message 1484: by Riya (last edited Aug 29, 2013 09:31PM) (new)

Riya Well hi everyone (especially Sarah)! I haven't been posting because I started my sophomore year of high school yesterday!!! So I've been busy, especially since I play varsity tennis as well. This weekend there's no school because of labor day, so hopefully I can get a ton of books done then!!

message 1485: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Riya, I always forget you're the baby of the group. Sophomore in high school - OMG. My baby starts preschool next Wednesday. She is three and a half. I am so excited for her to get to socialize and learn and I can't wait to dress her up, while she still lets me.

message 1486: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments My baby is a sophomore this year too. But school doesn't start here until the 5th. I don't know why when most of the towns around us have already started.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Phew, been a crazy few weeks for me at work and now my kiddo is back to school and soon begins the retail world's holiday preparations. That means lots of work hours and lots of trucks bringing us not only holiday items to sell but our store's holiday decor that I will most likely get to help put up (yay). Yes, holiday stuff! Retail likes to do things about 3 months in advance, don'tcha know.

So far, school is going well for the boy but it's just the first week. I wait for the other shoe to drop in the second 9 weeks or so. Please let this year be better than last year because I really don't want to deal with tardies that should have been excused, 2 month delays between my son getting the speech services he is entitled to, Saturday school because of the child forgetting to bring home his homework for weeks on end, thus lowering his class grade, and so on! I also hope for a reasonable amount of homework (would prefer none but I don't get a say) because I'm about sick of homework taking over our entire evening on week nights.

I'm possibly going to apply for a promotion at work but I'm torn because getting it will be sort of akin to a president/CEO taking over a country/business that has been badly run before his term. The department I want to supervise is in constant disarray and has really poor associates manning it, not to mention it has lost 3 associates in the past month as it is. I fear that taking it on would be more of a headache than it might be worth but it could also be rewarding if I am able to make the positive changes I have in mind. I've got stiff competition for the position, though, so my concerns may turn out to be for naught. Guess I'll give it a go and see what happens.

I think I have read about 2 books in the past 3 weeks. Painful. I've got a lot of books due back at the library soon, with no renewals so I must get the old keester in gear. Plus, I'm behind on the Harry Potter-thon! Sigh.

Sorry to see that Nancy left the challenge, after all. Welcome Marianne, hope you like the team!

Sorry about your grandmother, Mary!! I'm glad she is no longer suffering.

Hope all is well with everyone.

message 1488: by Vicky (last edited Aug 30, 2013 09:12AM) (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments I wish quiet meant I was getting more reading done!

I'm still in Canada visiting with my fiancee. He is getting ready to return to school next week, is stressing out about it and is super cranky pants! We've been running lots of errands so I haven't had much time to read. I'm heading home Monday or Tuesday and will be business as usual after that!

message 1489: by Riya (new)

Riya Wow- this is so funny, hearing about all your kids going to school!! Especially since I'm in the same grade as your daughter Mary!!! And that's great Sarah. I bet she will love preschool!
Good luck with your promotion and your book-reading Teresa!
Wow, sounds crazy Vicky! How do you like Canada??

message 1490: by Sarah (last edited Aug 31, 2013 12:10AM) (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Aaaaaak. I am feeling completely overwhelmed with all I am signed up to read this coming month. There is no way I can do it all. So many of the books are chunkster, but I really want to read them and Midnight's Children, well I am going to just read everything else and take this one in bits and pieces because it is just taking me too long. This is what I had to do with a lot of the classics when I read them. So The Passage and A Fine Balance are around 600 pages, Uncle Tom's Cabin is not going to be quick and easy. A Walk Across the Sun and The Cuckoo's Calling and Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking are good sized novels. A Room with a View is short but I am not sure if it will read easy. My very quick read will be Before I Go To Sleep. Oh yeah I also gotta get to The Drawing of the Three and Insurgent.

There is just no way. I am trying to figure out a plan of attack and what I can eliminate until next month. I am also reading several at once.

Oh Sarah I feel your predicament! I have so many books in September and its just not going to happen.... I just need more hours in the day lol

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments There are not enough hours in the day for reading, Sarah. I really wish I could stay awake and have no obligations for 24 hours sometimes. I think I'd make a fine vampire. Living for eternity = reading everything I ever wanted and still probably would never finish!

message 1493: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments **chuckles**

message 1494: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I am so tired. Went to the beach today with 2 of my friends plus my daughter and her friend. Had a great time but exhausted.

My daughter got a bad burn. She's upset because school starts on Thursday. I told her to put sunscreen on and thought she did but I guess not. She spent most of the day in the water. I just slathered her down with aloe and I'm going to have her take some Tylenol. Hopefully she won't get sick or blister. I got a bit of a burn on my back but that's all. Just a tiny strip that I must have missed with the suntan lotion.

message 1495: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Aww, poor kid. Sucks.

message 1496: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Oh the pain. I cannot wear a bra today. I need to go grocery shopping and I am not a small woman. It's very noticeable when I'm bra-less. I am making do with a too tight tank top under a baggy shirt.

The only place I got burned is on my back because I forgot to ask someone to redo my sunscreen after we swam.

Heading to the grocery store now so I will do the update later. I just clicked on everyone's link. I don't know if that helps speed up the main team tracker to catch up or not.

message 1497: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments So I think we dropped to sixth place, but we are essentially tied with Mauvolous. I didn't get to add one book this week:(

message 1498: by Riya (new)

Riya I was looking and the chart is one book off (it must've been added right after the update) so we're actually tied for fifth!! And aww, sorry Sarah. I'm really worried about my reading since my school's starting now :/ Hopefully I'll be able to keep it up though!

message 1499: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Yeah - I will probably finish The Gunslinger tonight.

message 1500: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Yeah we dropped down a spot but only because Mauvelaus has 1 more bonus point than we do. So we can regain 5th place easily if we try.

I had a low week for finished books. But I finished up 2 today. I'm still 1 book behind but I got a good chunk of an audiobook done today. I'm going to focus on some shorter romances this week. They'll help me catch up on this and a romance themed challenge that I am doing.
