Thanks for explaining this Sonia. That's what I thought but sometimes the discussions seem confusing. When I finish a book I do indicate that it has been read for Pewter Blue. I also mention it in on of these folders as well as on the Tower Teams if it is a challenge. I guess that's OK too.

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Finished my second book for the August Challenge. The title was Alex Cross, Run by James Patterson. I actually enjoyed this book - better than most of his recent novels. I was thinking before how I really enjoy reading more about Alex Cross and his family than about the crimes and capture of who done it.

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I think my reading slump may be over or at least I hope so. While I was a the library I thought I might try reading mystery books which form a series. So I took out books #5 and #6 from the Myron Bolitar series written by Harlan Coben. Other than book #4 of this series which I own, I have read all of the previous and subsequent books. For whatever the reason I read this series out of order which is unusual for me.

I also took out the first and second books from two of Rhys Bowen's series, Molly Murphy and her Royal Spyness. In both cases I read the first books from each series long ago but thought I should reread them if I want to continue with these series.

I am also listening to Fin and Lady by Cathleen Schine. Lady, a woman who lives during the 60's in Greenwich Village where I grew up also during the 60's, is left to raise her half brother when both of his parents die when he is only 11. So far I really love the characters.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments 535 books! Go team.

Taking today & tomorrow off to do a couple of day trips with my daughter. Taking her to the Connecticut Science Museum today. A little worried that it might be too young for her. But she really wants to go and it's only half an hour from here.

message 1308: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I am off to the gym although I really hate to exercise, I am almost finished with Fin and lady and highly recommend this title.

A dear friend of ours for 40 years, who lost her hearing when she was in college, wrote two books on her adventures with one cochlear implant and then becoming bilateral 6 years ago. Her husband and our close friend also, died suddenly last week and in memory of him and in honor of her, I thought I would reread her two books.

They are Hear Again: Back to Life with a Cochlear Implant - my friend is hugging her husband on the cover

andListening Closely: A Journey to Bilateral Hearing

If you know anyone who has a significant hearing loss you may want to recommend this book which Arlene wrote in conjunction with the League for the Hard of Hearing.

message 1314: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments It looks like Nika already did the 107 Word Wheel. I put another sheet on the same puzzle link I sent out before if you want to work on it for fun.

message 1315: by Nika ♥Marie♥ (new)

Nika ♥Marie♥ (mylknhoney) I completed 107 this afternoon. I was just coming to say that it was finished. I love these kind of puzzle. I think that means we have 3 triple cupcakes.

message 1317: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments We will, yes.

I have some shuffling of chunksters to do because I submitted some 900+ page books prior to when the triple threat was introduced that I need to replace. I want to wait until we have a few more TTs so I can do it all at once.

I also have Shantaram on my shelves for a long time. Wonder if I'll ever get to read it. Maybe we should do a buddy read, Sarah?

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) That's OK Sarah. I can certainly wait I've waited this long. LOL

I admire that you can plan out your books and stick to a plan. I am much too much of a mood reader to do this.

For example, with some time this morning, I watched The White Queen on the cable station Starz which is based on the book by Philippa Gregory. Sure enough I was so taken with this story and production that I just had to either read the book or listen to it. Luckily the library had the audio and so I will listen and watch it next week although I will know more of the story by then. I am so enjoying this audio, I wish I was free tonight to continue listening.

message 1327: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments All my books I want to read or I have joined a BOTM group read and Buddy reads I have pre planned. That is why I get so booked up. I am not a mood reader I guess. I read a lot of emotionally heavy books I would say but a lot of beautifully written books as well. But I feel I get perspective from this and I can learn a lot as well - with like historical fiction or classic literature or books set in other cultures and countries. I do give myself some give. But this book is huge. It is on my list for next year. One of my goals next year is to clear off a chunk of my bookshelf, which seems to be growing exponentially. Next year I created for myself an A-Z challenge by title - all books from my bookshelf. Shantoram is my S letter in that challenge, and I don't have to read the books in any order.

I have been both an A-Z Title and Author challenge for a couple of years now. But even that I don't plan. I just fill in as I go along and I don't finish cause I am always missing letters like X, Y or Z.

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Finished my 93rd book for 2013 today. It was a small book, 224 pages. The title is Durable Goods by Elizabeth Berg.

I manage to plan about a month in advance, but there is still usually some wiggle room, and with this group I am reading faster all the time, so I can add new books I didn't think I'd have time for! :D

The next four months, though... maybe if the BRs get really active again I'll be heading that way. I like to keep a couple of slots open though, just in case.

message 1333: by Mary X (last edited Aug 11, 2013 09:15AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I plan about a month in advance based on my challenges. But I just use it as a guide.

Just updated the spreadsheet to prep for the Sunday update. We are at 554 books. The tracker says 555 but there's a book that needs to be removed for being too short.

I'm not going to submit the update just yet in case some other books get added.

message 1334: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I'm reading a book today, I'm about half way through. When does it need to be done by so it can be added?

message 1335: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I don't know how long it takes the team tracker to update. Sometimes it seems to do it quickly and other times it takes forever. If the tracker goes up from what I have on the spreadsheet, the mods take whatever # on the tracker.

They like the update submitted by late afternoon EST.
Whatever books don't make it on the tracker by the time they do the update will just go on the next week's. So it's not a big deal. I just figured I'd do one more check a little later.

That happens to me quite often especially when I go to sleep on the early side.

Yesterday we played tennis with our kids in the morning and then went to see the new Woody Allen movie, Blue Jasmine. Thought of it as a streetcar named desire meets the Madoff clan. I was very well done but very sad. Cate Blanchett should win an Academy Award for her performance. Also saw a preview for the movie Austenland with Keri Russell based on the book which I read. Looks cute especially if you like Austan's books. I did finish an Elinor Lipman book just before which was just OK. Really loved this author called the Jane Austen of modern day but with each new book, I find these reads are just OK. Off to two libraries to return and pick up.

Dissident Gardens by Jonathan Lethem
