Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Yipee, Vicki!!! I must admit that I* really did enjoy working on the puzzle. Now if I can only figure out how to do the book cover puzzles.

I can read Orphan Master's Son and discuss before October 12 or have it read after Nov. 1st. I'll download the book and read it while we're traveling.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments 508 books!

I am back earlier than I expected. We ended up not doing the sunflower maze. The sunflowers we so short and not open much yet. You could see over them to the end of the maze. They said in about 2 weeks the sunflowers will be all in bloom and really tall. Plus the peaches will be better picking. They were still hard and I don't like them that way. So we picked blueberries and checked out the peach and nectarine orchards. Plus their baker and market place. So we're going to go back in 2 weeks to see the sunflowers and pick peaches.

message 1253: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I could do early October too. So whenever.

message 1254: by Riya (new)

Riya Awesome Mary- we're reading so many books now :D

And sorry it didn't work out, but I bet when you go back in 2 weeks you'll have a great time. I've always wanted to try a sunflower maze!

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Does November 4rd for The Orfan works for everybody? I'm out of town in my Kindle but I'll be home later today to set the thread.

message 1256: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments It works for me.

message 1257: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Cool. Know we only need Vicky and Nancy's input

message 1258: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) It's OK for me too. I have it bookmarked on my reading calendar.

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Works for me!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments 514 books!

Just did the Sunday update early. Going over to Mom's to make jam and help her with her garden.

Nichole | 980 comments Hi! I’m Nichole from the Leather Jacket Black team and wanted to invite you to participate in our daily quizzes for fun! If you are interested, the quiz for today is posted in Message 2512. What Greek God Or Goddess Are You? It’s all for fun! Enjoy :)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments We moved up another spot! Yay!

message 1263: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Awesome. Maybe we're the dark horse that will sneak up on everyone and then pass them.

I'm glad I did the update early because I only just got back from my parents house. We made a batch each of strawberry and blueberry jam. My mother is like the jam queen. She's actually thinking of opening a farm stand and selling jam along with her produce. She showed my friend and I how she makes it. It's all organic. She even makes her own dirt. We had to pick our berries at local farms though because she was using most of hers for her own batches. Then we ended up staying for dinner.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments So here's some stats:

Mauvelous is only 1 spot ahead of us because they have 2 more bonus points than we do. We have actually read 3 more books than them.

We're 94 books behind the first place team of Moonstone and 59 behind the 2nd place team of Leather Jacket Black.

Wild Blue Yonder is only 1 space behind us because they have few bonus points. They've actually read 11 more books than us.

message 1265: by Riya (new)

Riya Good to know Mary! If we keep reading at the rate we're at, I bet we can keep climbing up! Can't believe we're doing so well now- before we were fully formed we were at the way bottom.... Now we're awesome :D

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Correction: We've always been awesome. ;) We've just been slowly growing as a team.

Go Pewter Blue! *cheers*

message 1267: by Riya (new)

Riya Haha- good point Teresa!!! Now we're an awesome FULL team! :D

message 1268: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Forest Green is tearing it up and they were made after I came aboard (I think I was the last one here, til we needed replacements). A close friend of mine was the first member of FG and she reads a lot and they have a retired woman that my friend said reads like 3-4 books a day. WOW!

I'm glad we're doing well and hopefully will continue with the full team and have no one else leave!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Yeah, Forest Green has a few people who are steady readers so they just kind of exploded up the list, heh.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I may join along with the The Orphan Master's Son by Adam Johnson , too. I will let you all dictate the time, though. It's been on my radar but I can definitely wait to read it until everyone else is ready/able!

message 1271: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Nancy is leaving the challenge for some reason so we will probably drop a notch or two unless we get a replacement soon. I don't know why she's leaving. I just got a message from the Mods that she was. Which means we have to remove her books from the August challenge as well.

Hopefully someone else will sign up with a good book count the keep us in the game.

Do we want to move to yet another new tracker? I will message her and ask her to remover herself.

message 1272: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Seems like every time we gain some ground someone with a good number of books leaves.

message 1273: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments No - not Nancy :-(

message 1274: by Riya (new)

Riya Awww :( I wonder why she's leaving; hopefully we'll get a replacement soon then.

message 1275: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I'm glad I took tomorrow off because I am up way past my bedtime. I just came on for a few minutes to check in and ended up on an hour.

I'll update the August Challenge and the main team spreadsheet tomorrow.

I've asked Nancy to remove herself from our new tracker and hopefully she will. If she doesn't, I probably won't ask for a new tracker so soon. We can deduct her books every week. I'm sure we aren't the only team with inactive players on their tracker. I just like seeing the correct number.

message 1276: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) But hey, if we have to get a new tracker we can be "New Pewter Blue Two"

hahaha! :)

message 1279: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I am staying.

A dear friend passed away and I am reeling from this, an earlier death this summer of my cousin's husband and the accident which left our daughter's dear friend was left paralyzed in a bike accident. I thought lessening my load of busy activities (my days are filled with tennis, the gym, volunteering for our Temple, etc.) would make me feel better but I think this morning it would do the opposite. Unfortunately neither of these men were ill but suddenly died. One was playing golf, the other was packing up their car to go on vacation. Michelle's friend, an experienced bike rider was mowed down in our town by a landscaping truck who never saw him.
In any event I can't seem to focus on any book but will keep trying.

message 1280: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments I don't know you, but I feel like I should say that from my experience with grief, keeping friends around and people to talk to can help. Especially if it ends up being a distraction for you. Even if you aren't actually able to read anything right now.

And my sympathies are with you.

message 1281: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I'm sorry for your recent losses Nancy. When I'm grieving, I find it easier when I keep busy. If you can't concentrate on any books right now that's ok. Percentage-wise you are ahead anyway and we will not gang up on you if you fall behind for a bit. I was 2-5 books behind for 2 months. You can always reduce your goal if you just aren't reading what you thought would.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Oh, Nancy, I'm sorry for the losses of your cousin's husband and the dear friend, plus your daughter's friend's accident. I understand why you felt like lessening the load would help but I am so glad you are staying. You are an asset to the team but more importantly, you are a positive bookworm presence around these parts. If you can't read, that's okay, take all the time you need. We will be here one way or the other!! *hugs*

message 1283: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Nancy I'm so sorry for all your losses and pain. Is a hard time, and sometimes near strangers can't offer that much support and help, but we can use books as an escape too.

Take your time to grieve, we will be here when you need us or when you feel comfortable to be around.

I'm sending you my best wishes from this side of the Atlantic.

message 1284: by Mary X (last edited Aug 05, 2013 12:33PM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I finally have some more info on the Mods challenge for September. I have started a discussion thread here:

September Challenge

I personally find it easier to keep things separate and that's why I started new threads for the July & August challenges. But I didn't realize that there'd be even more mod challenges. If people want we can just discuss it here. The downside, to me, of discussing it here is that info and questions get lost when mixed in with the non-challenge discussions. But I don't want people to be overwhelmed with threads either.

If anyone feels they want to run the September challenge they can take over. I do the best I can.

message 1285: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) You are doing great. It's all worked out fine. We've had challenge discussions, where things should be talked about and discussed, and the finished books thread which should only be finished threads. This thread seems like it is, and should be, more for idle chit chat and such.

Thanks you Nicole for your kind words. I did spend the day with friends and it helped. I am going to keep busy this weekend but I worry about both my cousin and dear friend and how they will manage now without their rocks.

Teresa - usually when times are tough for me I find reading such a comfort but this time it isn't working so I will give myself a bit of time to regroup and then try to find a book.

Thanks for writing. My goal for the year of 2013 is 100 books and I've read 89 so far. I chose the same for my goal from April to March for this group and closer to that date I may change that number. I also finished the 15 books needed for the Camp Gotta Read Summer Challenge although I could continue to add books to that number too.

Thanks Sonia - I appreciate your thoughts and I now think being on this group and my others are helping more than I thought they would.

Sarah | 3273 comments Nancy. I am so glad you are staying and I don't care if you read. I would just like to offer any support I can and hear from you time to time. Maybe I can pick up some of the slack. I am also ahead for my goal - granted I can't read as much as some - don't have the time. I am keeping my goal where it is but I am ahead of schedule and keep on reading more than I thought. So you are good. This is all for fun - not stress. You are an asset to the team.

You are very welcome. I'm glad spending time with friends helped. Maybe you'll all be able to become rocks for each other, at least in the short term.

Thanks Sarah. You have made me feel so much better. I woke this morning and told myself I wouldn't go down that slippery slope again. I had breakfast with my husband and we then did some house things together and now I am of to the gym, library, etc.

I know some have little time but summer for me should be when I read the most and ironically it's not so recent events have really thrown me off. But tomorrow is another day and I will try to help my friend and cousin as much as I can from here.

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I am sorry if I have written all of this in the wrong folder but I'm still bot sure where messages go. I now think the Towers folder is for discussions about challenges and the other main group are for all sorts of messages.

message 1296: by Sonia (last edited Aug 06, 2013 06:57AM) (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Nancy, all the discussions must be on the main group, that means, for Pewter Blue, here on this thread.

The sister group is for support only, for example to keep track of the books read for challenges, useful links, and where we keep the team trackers.

Did I make sense? I'm in the middle of something at work, so I may sound a bit distracted :o)

I was the tester for the Puzzle 105 Word Wheel, so we got gifted a cupcake when the puzzle went up. I did make a sheet for it on the puzzle spreadsheet though - so if you want to work on it for fun, feel free! :)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Also, I dropped an exceptionally heavy subwoofer on my foot today. I'm rather cranky about it, so I think I'm going to go get some cuddly PJs on and read for a while. Glad it's someone else's night to make dinner! lol
