Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments It's not registerring you in the new tracker. Did you copy/paste and put in the exact shelf name? It should work if you did. You have to enter in your book goal again too. You can be in 2 challenges at once so it's not because you are still in the old tracker.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Finished my 24th book for this round: A Faint Cold Fear (Grant County, #3) by Karin Slaughter . Some of the characters drove me so nuts, I wanted to stick them all into a room until they worked out their differences and learned to communicate for once and for all!!! Bunch of adults acting like kids....ugh. "I'm weak because I am in therapy!" "I can't let them see me cry!" "I yelled at him because I'm embarrassed!" I mean, everything that irked me is perfectly human behavior but for every single prominent character to behave that way just drives me insane. Can't there be just one adult who knows how to open up??? Therapy doesn't make you weak, crying doesn't mean you're weak, stop yelling at people because you don't know how to just say what is on your mind!! Being open and honest would make so many misunderstandings simply go away, sheesh!!!

Okay...got that off my chest, LOL.

Announcement
Cool Text: Logo and Graphics Generator

If you were 'tagging' books as read last night, please make sure they are on your designated Tower Teams Reading Challenge shelf. Since Alice (the girl in the chair that appears when the system is over capacity) kept appearing, we are finding a lot of books didn't get 'tagged.'

The best way is to compare your main GRs challenge (if you've joined) with your "view books" page of your Team's Home Page Challenge.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Lisa Kay wrote: "Teresa, you do know they are talking about you in The Dovekeeper BOM thread, don't you?"

I do now! I haven't peeked there yet because I haven't started the book. I was determined to finish that other book today because it was such a fast read. I'm starting the Dovekeepers soon. Now I feel compelled to go see what is being said about me!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Odd! When I click your link, it tells me that group is secret! I'll go through my notifications instead.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I don't see anything about me there, LK. Color me confuzzled!

I see there are a lot of people struggling with the book. I hope I like it! I'm the one who nominated it, LOL. I read a postive review by someone whose input I highly respect and I will refer to her review if I feel like I'm struggling with the book. When this person started reading it, she was sure she would end up hating it but instead she gave it 5 stars. I remain optimistic...for now, haha. I should start it soon.

Lol! It was me! Jex and I were lamenting on how hard it is to write DQs when you can't get into a book, so I was looking at who nominated the book and I said you'd better be reading it! hahaha
I am struggling with it big time. I'm at page 100 and I am forcing myself to continue. Hopefully I will be like your friend and end up loving it :)

message 913: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Sticking to my plan to finish up already started books before starting any new ones. I have a couple of library lends that popped up that I need to start but I managed to finish this today by having my Kindle read to me. Helped that everyone left the office today by 3 and so I had 90min alone where it could read to me while I did mindless stuff like filing.

Queen of Song and Souls (Tairen Soul, #4) by C.L. Wilson

Sadly I am still 1 book behind and both my library lends are longer books. But was 3 books behind so catching up somewhat.

Sarah | 3273 comments I bought The Dovekeepers last week to try and do the BOM. I have read Alice Hoffman before and didn't love her but I was under the impression this may be her best book. Reading comments I was beginning to wonder too. But sometimes a book takes a while to get good and gets better toward the end. But I haven't got any reading done. I feel so sick today. Something is wrong with my stomach and I keep getting pale and sweaty and really lightheaded when up to the bathroom. I thought I was gonna pass out earlier and laid down on the bathroom floor. Anyway TMI :-( Blaagghhh

Sounds like you may have a bug. Take care of yourself and don't worry about not reading right now. The one good thing is that books will always be there for all of us.

Bwahaha! Sorry! But hey, I just nominated, I didn't cast every vote that cause it to win, hehe.

I'm on page 22. I really like Alice Hoffman's writing. I don't know if a lot of people realize that she's a magical realism writer but I see some of those tendencies in this book. I can't help but wonder if that alienates people who aren't into magical realism. Anyway, I can see that this book is going to require some serious attention from me when I read but that's fine, I can read a more escapist book alongside this one.

Sorry, Teresa. I occasionally get the avatars for the Mod Group and NBRC mixed up as they were recently reversed.

message 919: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Funny but I don't enjoy either fantasy or science fiction but do love almost all of Alice Hoffman's books. I don't have too much of an imagination, I guess so there were lots of scenes in my recent read The Ocean at the End of the Lane which I didn't get and yet I do love the magical realism that Hoffman writes. Hoffman owes a lot to authors also known for this like Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Isabel Allende.

message 920: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) "I can read a more escapist book alongside this one. "

I think I'm having a serious book breakdown which coms from reading too many books at the same time. Wondering if anybody else has this problem?

I am currently reading, The English Girl by Daniel Silva and listening to Sweet Salt Air by Barbara Delinsky. I also thought I would read Fin & Lady: A Novel by Cathleen Schine but may pass on this for a bit. Then a friend lent me her copy of The Attack by Yasmina Khadra and then said she needs it back ASAP and I also picked upThe Son by Phillip Meyer which I reserved and is a long book that must be returned in 2 weeks. Oh - I had such a headache thinking about this, I'm going to sleep.

message 921: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments That happens to me Nancy. I usually have at least 3 going at once, an ebook, a print book and an audiobook-each a different enough genre/plot to keep them easily apart. But sometimes I get too many started and then I have trouble deciding which one to focus on more. I am cleaning up my mess with this now. I was 3 books behind in my percentage and realized I had like 10 books started. Been making myself pick one print/ebook to focus on and 1 audiobook to focus on until I get them all finished.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Nancy I see you made it to the new challenge.

I just sent messages to Michael, Andrea, Holly and Barbara about the new tracker. Glad I waited until tonight because it saved me from having to send several more messages.

We have 9 of 13 successfully transferred.

Usually at some point when I am reading more than one book, I decide to simply focus on one book and finish it.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments My main problem is that I want to read every book on my TBR right now all at the same time.

message 926: by Riya (new)

Riya Haha same!! Right now I'm reading 6 books. My limit is 6, and my usual average is around 4 books at a time! I've learned to juggle them, but it's so much better when I sit down and just finish one up.

Oh, haha, that's funny.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I don't always read more than one book at a time so I haven't really suffered from any sort of "multiple book breakdown" as of yet. Perhaps in the future! I do stuffer from "same genre too many weeks in a row syndrome", at times.

I already wrote about my habits when it comes to reading multiple books, I think. Or was that in another thread? I can't remember now. Well, basically, the most I tend to read at once is 3 books and they all have to be different genres so I can keep each one straight in my mind. Sometimes I find one holds my interest the most so I'll focus on it until I finish, then other times I alternate between each book every time I read. If I add a 4th book it'll be something like an anthology or Grimm's Fairy Tales, something I'm not constantly reading but that I'm slowly making my way through. I have a book that I've been meaning to finish reading for awhile now and it would have been great for July challenges but there's no way I'm finishing it soon. America's Women 400 Years of Dolls, Drudges, Helpmates, and Heroines by Gail Collins . Would fit a red/white/blue theme, Americana theme, etc. Hm, maybe I'll make my way through it for our August challenge category honoring women.

Sarah | 3273 comments OK gonna start The Dovekeepers now. I have tomorrow off but Wednesday and Thursday I work my two twelve hour shifts. I am also reading Tell the Wolves I'm Home by Carol Rifka Brunt - and it is just so easy to read. But I am gonna put it aside for a moment and get going on this more challenging book.

Sarah - It seems a number of people are struggling with The Dovekeepers, but today once I got to around page 110 I started to get into it. It is a book that needs some concentration so hopefully you can get time to read it in chunks :)

message 933: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Karen - maybe it is a genre thing - I tend to like good writing and historical fiction. I am page 45 and I have had no problem getting right into this book. I like it so far. I think this genre may not be for everyone though.

I'm not sure. I'm a big fan of historical fiction, but not first person narratives. I also struggled with the flowery descriptions, but I've become accustom to them now I think!

message 935: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I have liked it so far and I like the writing style but I wasn't sure I would because of all the posts on the BOM. I think I am really gonna like this book. Hey aren't u in Figi soon?

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Yay Barbara made it over. She was the player that we worried might be inactive. But she messaged me this morning and gave her directions on switching over. I kind of figured she was still active because she had added a book on 7/7 and has never posted much.

I am pondering lowering my goal to 175 maybe we can get another player with a low goal to replace Holly (QC). Will wait and see what the team goal looks like when everyone makes the transfer before I decide.

Hopefully they'll see the message before the next update and we can use the new tracker. Holly has a new baby so it make take her a few days to see the message.

message 946: by Mary X (last edited Jul 23, 2013 05:17PM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments We still need Holly to move over. But her goal is only 20 so we'll still be 50 short. So we'll see. If someone with a lower goal signs up, we might get them unless there's another team with an even lower goal. Also Holly has only read 5 books so our books read # won't go up much.

message 947: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Well I just heard from Holly (QC) and she has said she's still playing and marked 2 books as read today. (I had messaged her 2 weeks ago).

Anyway, I asked her to move to the new challenge tracker. Hopefully she'll do that soon.

message 948: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (worthwhilereading) I am still in and still reading, but things have been very busy lately so fell behind a bit.
I sign up for the monthly challenges and have also signed up for Camp Gotta Read, and Around the World challenges as well, so lots of reading to do!!!
If you require anything additional or more specific from me just let me know.
Happy reading everyone!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments No worries Barbara. It's just easier to tell if someone is still active if they post every so often even if they haven't had much reading time. I myself and behind in my reading. Actually percentage-wise you are a little ahead.

Come chat with us though because we are awesome.
