Lovely!

I went and visited my mum today who lives at Penrith which is an outer suburb of Sydney. It is right on a man-made lake (part of the watercourse they put together for the rowing in the Olympics). Although today is a typical cold wet winter's day, here is a photo from a nicer day!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments One of my favorite places that starts with P - Pike's Peak, Colorado. This is my own picture. I took it during a walk to or from my son's school. That was my view for a year. I love it and I miss it.

Sarah | 3273 comments Oh I want to travel. Before I had my daughter - my wild three year old Lola - I was gettin on a jet plane at least every three months for about a good four years. So I can't complain. Those were the days.

message 516: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments OK Melissa is leaving the challenge. I messaged her today to see if she was still participating and she said it was too much work. I don't know if we will get to keep her books until a replacement player is signed up or what. I saw that on another team when some players left, they got to keep some of the books from those players. At least until they got replacements. But that might have only been because the leaving players were willing to keep those books shelved and they were just too busy to keep up with the challenge. Hopefully they can give us another player or two. She had a high goal of 100 and had 26 completed books. I messaged her because she hasn't posted to the group since May and hadn't marked a book read since 6/28. I was hoping she would come on and just say she'd been busy.

message 517: by Riya (new)

Riya Well, hopefully we can get a couple of new players who put us up to par with the other groups. This kind of sucks though...

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Hey guys, I will be gone most of tomorrow to bring my daughter to see her father. We meet half-way about 6 hrs from here. Vicky will be taking care of the Sunday update.

I think we should just go with what Karen snuck in and posted: places we think of as paradise.

My dream trip is to Scotland where I will, of course, meet a super hot modern day Laird with a castle and huge, um...,bank account, yeah a huge bank account.

I've visited Scotland and went to cool castles-it's quite gorgeous!

lol Sarah. With all the stuff I have to pack for baby I couldn't possibly fit you in my suitcase ;)

message 527: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments I want to go to Scotland so bad! I've been looking at Outlander tours and wishing, lol.

It might not be paradisiacal during all seasons, but I would love to go to the Amazon:

message 528: by Karsyn (last edited Jun 30, 2013 03:08PM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) This thread is so depressing for me! LOL!! I haven't taken a vacation since our honeymoon (to Vegas) 3/07. We moved last year from FL to NC and don't have a car, so I haven't been more than a mile from my house in almost a year. Walmart would be a vacation for me right now!! :) (Super small town, closest one is over a half hour away, all we have here is dollar stores.)

If I could go anywhere, I'd just love to go back to Vegas. That's my paradise.

message 529: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments I just put the Sunday Update in. We added 42 books for 332 total (336 with our Bonus Points from the 7% challenge).

I don't think it's going to change our rank but we have closed the gap between us and 1st place. It was 80 after the last update and I think it's going to be around 66 after this update! :)

message 530: by Riya (new)

Riya Awesome!! I'm reading a few shorter books right now, and we need some more people still, so hopefully we can keep increasing our rank!!!

LOL! :)

My last vacation was to Punta Cana in the Dominican last January, my fiancee's brother got married there. It was quite nice, especially because it was break from winter weather!

Plus I got a toddler:) who is becoming quite the cute little brat - I could not imagine trying to vacation with her now. It would be filled with resistance and tantrums the whole way. But it would still be perfect.

message 533: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Paradise to me is pretty much the generic tropics - palm trees, crystal blue waters, sunshine, ocean, tropical fish, yummy fresh sea food, tropical fruits, tanning, diving, hiking, reading books and relaxing, drinking, dancing, sexy black natives that like big butts and they cannot lie, aaaaah to be young again and free. Oh am I writing this - fantasizing right now. Sorry.

message 534: by Riya (new)

Riya Haha love it Sarah! For me paradise is a place where I could spend the rest of my life without being bored. :)

message 535: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments You know now that I read so much I am never bored... but maybe I read so much because my life is just that boring. I would still prefer to actually live out great adventures of my own too. I plan to travel again someday when motherhood and finances permit.

message 536: by Riya (new)

Riya I hope that works out for you! I love traveling so much!

Well Sarah they have a nanny service for $40 a day, so someone else could deal with the tantrums! lol!

Here is my paradise. I always think back to here when in the dentist chair (or giving birth..lol)

I lived in Thailand working as an English teacher a few years back in a small rural town where there was no English or 'creature comforts'. We had squat toilets, bucket "showers" etc. And every weekend I would escape with some of my colleagues to Ao Nang for some normality. It was set up for tourists, but no where near as bad as Phuket or Kho Phi Phi so it was a great escape!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Hi guys. I see I go away for the day and there's all kinds of activity.

So I guess for right now we can keep Melissa's books. I finished 2 audiobooks during my long drive today. Sadly I think I am still one book behind where I should be. But I will try and finish up something else tonight or tomorrow. I have too many books started and need to just start finishing them up.

eta: I think I can finish this tonight since I'll be up another 3 hours or so and there's nothing on TV tonight. Play of Passion (Psy-Changeling, #9) by Nalini Singh

message 539: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments We did make a rank jump from 10 to 9 this week, but we're 74 books from the lead which is more than I estimated the first time. Let's try to keep it up next week! :D

message 540: by Riya (new)

Riya We're totally gonna win this thing!!!!!! :D

message 541: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I thought we were 11th last week. I must have looked at the wrong update spreadsheet thingy.

I just marked the 2 audiobooks I finished as read.

message 542: by Vicky (last edited Jun 30, 2013 05:13PM) (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments The row numbers are off on the spreadsheet, we were in the 11th row but since the headers are row 1, we were in 10th place. ;)

I should finish The Scottish Prisoner tonight, only 1.5 hours to read. Then I need to decide what I'm going to listen to on my way to work tomorrow. Too many options!

message 543: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Oh duh. We've probably been spot higher than I thought the whole time!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Today's P word should be paradise from the looks of things! Paradise for me would be something tropical, too, like Sarah said. Minus anything to do with sea food or drinking or dancing (I don't like sea food, I don't really drink much and I can't dance, LOL). I'll just take a nice beach that I can relax on with a book and maybe a cabana boy to fan me, hehehe.

I'll try to get more reading done this month than I did last month. I've hit a reading funk, ugh. I'm not sure what I will do about that yet. I did start Lucille Ball's biography and I think that will at least be fast reading and entertaining. I have a pile of library books on my bed and I'm finding it hard to get into them.

message 545: by Riya (new)

Riya Same- last month was pretty slow for me, but I've got like 15 books from the library! This month I definitely plan to read tons more!!

message 546: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments My eyes were too tired to read tonight. I did have my Kindle read to me a little but couldn't finish Play of Passion tonight. But I should be able to finish tomorrow. It's good but I didn't sleep much last night and after a day in the car, my eyes just don't want to focus. I always have trouble sleeping when I know I'll be seeing my ex-husband even though it's been 4 years since we split up.

Me and my ex-husband spent a month traveling in Thailand. We stayed at the Marriott in Puket-omg it was so luxurious. They brought out a baby elephant every day to the pools. And we also stayed in Kho Phi Phi- I think I got drugged on this energy drink stuff they mixed with alcohol. Not like the energy drinks in the states - I think later I found out they are not regulated and there is amphetamine or something in these energy drinks. That was a horrible night. Blaagghhh. Thailand hasn't been my favorite place I have travelled but still amazing.

message 548: by Karen ⊰✿, Fiction Aficionado (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 16602 comments Mod
lol Sarah - yeah that sounds like Kho Phi Phi. It is definitely a party island and all the "young-uns"! like to go there to get cheap booze and drugs.
I absolutely love Thailand, but the seedy underbelly tourist parts I avoid like the plague.

message 549: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Yeah we gotta out of there quick.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I'm stumped on pic ideas. Also feeling a little blue that my kid is away. She's 15 and I should feel like "yeah got the house to myself". But I feel lonely.

So lets do pics of what you do when you are blue. I'm thinking more mood-lifters than pity parties.
