And to follow the theme, here's a cupcake penguin!

And a Monocle Penguin, because this picture cracks me up.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I didn't even think of that when I picked penguins. I will aim for P or blue themes unless I'm inspired by something else.

Aww, Penguins in love ...,

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Cute. I was going to do peacocks today. I'm starting a peacock needlework project.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments We went to a zoo in CT recently and they had all these peacocks running around everywhere. I don't know how to get pics from my SD card on here w/o signing up for some sort of photosite thing.

message 320: by Vi (new)

Vi | 1758 comments You can upload the pic to GR - that's the only other way I know of.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Everyone is so quiet today. I hope that means everyone is reading. I did the Sunday update and we added 43 books this week. Last week when I did the update we had 227 and we have 270 now. Way to go team!

message 325: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments I want an albino peacock for a pet, they are gorgeous!

Not so much reading today, unfortunately. I've been helping my dad with some much needed home repairs (like our basement drain that's been overflowing with dirty water from the washer and dishwasher and stinking up the entire basement). It was oh so fun, let me tell you! haha

Yay 43 books! That bumped our average books/week up from 29 to 34. Go team! :)

message 326: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Last week were were in 11th place. I hope we moved up a notch or three now that we have a full team.

That's out of 19 teams. But the bottom couple teams are either new & not full teams or are just holding teams for possibly inactive players. So really it's like we're 11th out of 17 teams.

message 327: by Riya (new)

Riya This is so awesome!!!!! I'm proud of us- and the peacocks look quite epic- I love the last one you posted Vicky!

message 329: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Well happy Fathers Day. I am at work on break and my Kindle pooped out on me last night. The screen went blank. I bought it recently because my other one wouldn't charge. I was hoping when the battery died it would reboot cause there goes all my books I was about to read. I have a library of books at home, but none scheduled now.

message 330: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Have you tried plugging it into your computer? One time mind did that and I thought I would have to get a new one when charging it didn't help. But when I plugged it into my computer it rebooted itself and I'm still using it months later.

message 331: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Not much reading for me today. But I read a lot yesterday and finished a couple so I don't feel guilty.

If work stays as slow as it has been, I'll be knocking out Kindle books at work this week. Which I need to do because I over did it on the library ebook check outs.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Goodnight!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Worked a few hours today and it's Father's Day so I haven't been online. Doing things with the husband and son, then watched some Grimm with the husband. I am not sure what I'm doing next, I'm pretty tired. I'll get some reading done at some point tonight, though.

Love all the peacocks!

message 334: by Riya (new)

Riya Yeah, I'm reading For Whom the Bell Tolls and it's just one of those books that you have to take slow... Awesome goodnight peacock!!!!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments We held our 11th place spot. I was hoping we'd sneak up a spot or two (or three) but we held the same. We earned a 4 book bonus for finishing the 7% challenge. But everyone that finishes gets that.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments When I put up the July mini-challenge that's for our group only, would peeps prefer that I put it here in this thread or created a seperate thread for it? I'll probably put something together this weekend since I will be driving my kid to PA the last weekend in June.

You know what. I think I will just create new ones. Then it doesn't get lost in the discussion thread and when it's over, it isn't clogging up the discussion thread.

message 342: by Mary X (last edited Jun 17, 2013 12:19PM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Here are my thoughts on mini-challenges.

What if we actually did Imke's challenge idea starting July 1st and made it for 80 days and ending Sept. 19th? Around The World in 80 Days theme? Not sure how well I could stick to her layout, based on the book, personally. I would probably do better if I could do it out of order.

For July we'll keep it simple and do a Moon Themed Challenge.

For the August one that we have to submit, still working out ideas on this one. Was thinking 8 x 8 theme: 8 books for 8 categories as a team. But 64 books might be too much. Also 8 might not work well for a spell out unless we don't complete the words.

Octogon Challenge: (working title)

1: Spell out Pewter Blue
2: Spell out August (1 & 2 together are 16 books)
3: 8th in a series, 8 words, 8 letters etc., (require 8?)
4: 8 Green Covers for Peridot birth stone.
5: Leo/Zodiac: books w/cover, plot, title, character etc.., Leo, sun, orange, red, fire, cats (big & small)
6: Summer Fling: books under 300 pages
7: Long Hot Summer: books over 500 pages
8: Water, Water Everywhere: books set near water, water in title, water on cover etc..,

message 343: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments No, 64 books isn't too much, Mary: HDLS. There is a new announcement from the mods regarding the August challenge in the Captains' Group.

message 344: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Ack! We need 75 books to get credit for finishing.

Now I need to refigure. 64 worked good for 8 books in 8 categories. 75 is an uneven number!

message 345: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Can't we just use the remaining numbers to be extra books we don't use in a categories or spell out END OF SUMMER which is eleven letters - the remaining number we need?

message 346: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Oh, clever, Sarah!

message 347: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Yeah I thought that was clever. Are we going to get to go until Sept. 19th

No.

Something else is planned for September.

message 349: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments No the September 19th was for our own Around the World challenge. Books could be used for both challenges. In August we have a chance to win bonus points if we submit a challenge and then complete it.

I thought the around the world thing could just be something fun for anyone who wants to try it. Same with the Moon themed challenge.

message 350: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I was thinking of adding a category for Women's Suffrage as the 19th Amendment giving woman the right to vote in the US was passed on August 18, 1920.
