I'll probably do a spreadsheet update tomorrow to add Melissa and I think there's one more newbie I need to add. Plus update everyone's recently read books. Tonight I am going to concentrate on 7% Challenge set up. I think we have enough active participants to get our 49 books in if I can get everyone coordinated.
All of Melissa's books can be used for other letters in the challenge. So I might change those up. Actually I might change up other books if they work for other letters and get us to a block of 7 easier.
Lets keep in mind that we can only do the spell it out thing for 21 books. If I see a book that will help us more in another category, then I'll move it there. But I'll get opinions first.
I have decided to hold myself back from picking out too many categories and I will kind of fit books in to where they are need to make blocks of 7. The only category I can't really do is the BOM option because I'm not really interested in reading any of them at this time.

I will participate in this challenge as well. Feel free to move my books around the categories as you see fit. I'll also keep an eye out for which categories are missing books and try to read books that fit.
Yes that would be awesome. I was going to put somewhere that I reserve the right to move books to wherever I think they'll fit best. But I don't want to sound like a dictator. I'm going to try and make a list of books I want to read and see where they be placed today. Or at least over the weekend.

Since the other trhead has became mainly a discussion thread, I created a thread for people to report finished books only. You can keep your posts in the first thread for your own tracking. I will also monitor those posts and the less active players read shelves. But I thought it would be helpful to have a thread only for finished books. Thanks: 7%Finishedbooks

Sigh. I can't seem to figure out a good system :-(I just thought it might be easier for me to see books that are finished if there's a seperate thread for only that.
I think the "Finished" thread is a great idea, Mary! Keeps things that are complete over there, in its own tidy little compartment. I love compartments, lol. I'm not quite sure of a good 'plan-of-attack' for this challenge, either, but I think that everyone is contributing greatly to helping to figure things out. I think things will come together in time and we'll both just have to try not to stress too much over the finer details.
I plan to post my list of 'planned reads' and what categories they should fit into and then asking as many questions as I need to for clarification! Such as, "If I read a book that contributes to ANY ROSE, will someone else have to complete the phrase ANY ROSE or do they just fill in 6 other books in that category?" Things like that. lol. My concern is that I don't want to say 'I have a book for blank category' and then make others feel obligated to finish out a category they had no interest in, you know? But, by the same token, I am perfectly fine with not having that book count at all if it means the entire team is not stressed out over it.
I think having people list their plans (as much as they feel comfortable doing so, without risking boredom or moodiness setting in, etc) can be helpful with what categories we can and need to fill.
For the #6 category we can take any # of books from the criteria there. It was clarified in the Q&A thread for that we can make 7 out of whatever there. So we could use 2 moon books, 3 flower books, an A book and an R book to make 7 or any combination of books. I'm glad someone asked over there because I had assumed we could only use each thing once to get our 7 of it: 1 moon book, 1 flower etc.., but I was wrong.
For the #5 spell it out, we can only use the letters for the # of times they are in there. But there's more than enough letters in that for us to use it for 3 turns.
Oh, good to know (re: #6), thanks! I'll read that FAQ later, too. I feel so bad not having all the info in my head right now. Yep, I have that part about the number of times we can use letters for #5...filed away in the brain, lol. If I write down any options that would fulfill more than the allotted number, it's just to have a variety of choices. Okay, must dash off!
Yes, it is a big puzzle. The problem is that we don't have all the pieces yet, so it is a bit of a waiting game. I think once the ball gets rolling, you ladies will feel better. I find it interesting that some people - but not all - are stressing over it; I wish they would not. A forty-nine book goal is only 27% of what each Team will probably read during that period, if not less. Everyone has a different opinion as to which category is hard, but you have the option of eliminating that one, easily.

And I do think a "finished" thread is a great idea, Mrs. Dresden. ☺
I think the best plan is just trying to fill in categories the best we can and not being in a rush to turn in categories as turning them in locks them in and doesn't allow them to change. I posted a template for finished books in the Tower group thread that may be helpful in figuring things out. Maybe not.
I don't plan on turning them in as soon as we hit them. As far as I know there's no benefit to turning them in early as opposed to waiting until the end to submit everything that's finished. Unless I missed something. So I'll probably fill in books as they are finished and then move them around if needed.
Right now I'm just taking what people think they might read as a guide so we can see if we have any gaping holes. But it looks to me like we can do this pretty easy with the active players we have. We seem to have every category # pretty much covered. The only thing we seem to have nothing for is buddy reads but I don't think we need them.
I think we have quite a few buddy reads. BOMs also count, and the whole group doesn't have to do it. I know all of my books count for that category and LK is doing a few. It doesn't have to be a specific BR that our group sets up. But we can skip it too.
So far no one has pointed out that a book is being used as a Buddy Read. But if they do then I'll add it to that category. I think w/the BOM & Buddy reads, they have to participate in the discussions right?

Well I guess I can't send her a message until she accepts my friend request. So, hopefully she'll answer soon or her books won't be counting for us.

Well, I'm in a buddy read for Dracula, which will be posted in my planned reading list...which I haven't gotten to yet! I came home from work and vegged on the couch with the hubby and then my son took charge of my computer for awhile. Started working on my list earlier so I shall get back to it.

I think I'm going to have to read that whole cupcake thing a few more times to fully get it. I don't think we'll need them but you never know. I don't really get the part about looking at a spreadsheet and then at someone's shelves. But I get the part about us having 27 cupcakes which means we can use them to replace 3 books if needed. I wish I had done some of those games because then we might have 28. Oh well too late now.

Oooh why do we get this option? Not complaining, I like knowing what color ahead of time. I am not particular about which color we choose but I would say not green. We can already use green covers for one of the other categories. So I think we should give ourselves more options by going with 2 other colors.

LK -- Do we get to choose which team for both tasks separately or together? Like, can we do "ahead" from Cadet Blue's standings and "behind" from Pewter Blue's? Or does it have to be strictly one team's standing for both? I'm posting here exactly what each team's standings are now so we can discuss our options here.Team Standings:

My Comments: If we can pick from either of our teams I'd want to go with Cadet Blue for "Task #3: Color Behind" (team B'dazzled Blue) because there are a ton of blue covers out there and I'm not really sure about tumbleweed. I suppose we could look around for cover color ideas before deciding for sure, though! Going with the same "if we can choose from either team", for "Task #2: Color Ahead", I nominate Pewter Blue (team Atomic Tangerine).
However, if we can choose only one team for BOTH tasks, I need to do more research on covers before finalizing my nomination! Going to do that after I eat breakfast.

If that's the only challenge someone else feels that they can do please post what letters you can do. I'm sure someone can move their books to something else. I know I could. Plus you never know when real life will keep someone from reading what they had planned.
