I know - trying to overcome these hackers is an ongoing job that's for sure Ace!

message 352: by Ace (new)

Ace (aceonroam) For sure!

While I was lurking around on the Feedback group I also saw that GR are implementing a new change to the menu bars.

Thanks Ace!! I hope that makes a big difference to people who can't link (add books/author) etc unless using a laptop! And that the app is worthwhile ;) I guess we'll soon see once it's all rolled out :)

It's like a mystery flight, you never know what it will look like till you land haha. Everybody brace yourselves :)

I downloaded an update on my phone last night - but haven't looked at it yet.

Even though the books are there, it's showing that I've read 0 books this year!!! Another GR glitch that I'm about to look into :(

Multiple complaints but no comments from GR staff as yet...

It appears our dates read have disappeared, hence the 0 read!

Fixed already! If I hadn't turned the computer on until this afternoon, I wouldn't have known ;)

I noticed this change on my iPad today. Seems a little better, although it might take a day or two for my fingers’ muscle memory to get used to it.

Ace (aceonroam) When I click on the notification bell symbol to the newest comments for our "Chat" thread, its taking me to comment no.1, not comment no.8152

Is this only happening to me I wonder or have others experienced the same thing?

message 363: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80215 comments Mod
I clicked on two different threads Ace. I wasn't taken to #1 but to 20th March on both threads!!! Another glitch :(

message 364: by Ace (new)

Ace (aceonroam) Ok, I might go and see what they are saying on the feedback group...

message 365: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80215 comments Mod
Good idea!!

message 366: by Ace (new)

Ace (aceonroam) I got another notification on the chat thread and this time it took me straight to comment no.8153.

I checked the feedback group by searching for the word notification and nothing relevant came up. I think they are fiddling with the system while America is sleeping: )

They could be - they said when everyone was commenting about the 0 read for 2018 that they were doing updates etc. So fix one glitch and it creates another!! They must have a HUGE amount of stuff to work on with a site this large!

message 368: by Ace (new)

Ace (aceonroam) Yes I'm sure they are ridiculously busy lol. Still my favourite website though. Apart from the homepage changes, which still makes me mad to think about. I think I need therapy to properly let that one go ...

message 369: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80215 comments Mod
Haha! Yes I've lost heaps with that - I hardly follow anything on the current Home page...

Regarding our discussion where our read books are showing as read twice, even though we haven't - the techno people within GR are working on it. It's been a bug for awhile apparently. Here's what Shaun has to say: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

message 371: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 9873 comments The "temporarily can't add new URLs" to profiles message is still active. I wanted to add my new Netgalley 200 books badge (yay!) and can't. I wonder how long temporary is going to be.

message 372: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80215 comments Mod
Well done! That's fantastic 😊 And I don't know, hopefully not too much longer. Perhaps keep an eye on the Feedback group...

This one seems to be fixed. I just wrote a review and the date read part at the bottom was back how it used to be.

message 376: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80215 comments Mod
Oh I hope so! I guess we will see over the next few days!

message 377: by Diana (new)

Diana (secondhandrose) | 73 comments I've noticed that recent reads are showing as 'read twice' as well. I went in and manually changed dates to remove the double ups in my Goodreads challenge. Glad to hear they are working on the glitch.

message 378: by Li'l Owl (new)

Li'l Owl | 2504 comments I've joined Netgalley and have received my first requested book, Burning Ridge by Margaret Mizushima! It's the fourth in the Timber Creek K-9 mystery series. I just read the first, Killing Trail and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I can't put my Netgalley badge URL. =o(

I'm glad to hear they're working on this one, as well. Manually fixing it works but not always. =o)

message 380: by Andrea (last edited Apr 16, 2018 06:43PM) (new)

Andrea | 2172 comments Something I noticed yesterday for the first time was that I have started getting random ads below the banner when I access GR on my iPad with Safari browser. This is despite having an ad-blocker installed. So far it's not happening on my PC/desktop, although I think they may have made changes to the page configuration because I used to be able to change my zoom so that GR recommendations were not visible - not so any more.

EDIT - actually it’s not the recommendations, it’s the sponsored books (just a different type of ad!)

message 381: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 90 comments Im getting those ads too - very sneaky!

message 382: by Phrynne, Series Queen! (new)

Phrynne | 15879 comments Mod
Me too and I don't like them. They are hard to ignore and take up screen space.

message 383: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 90 comments They have also managed to sneak them onto the ap!!!

You know I would happily pay a couple of dollars to remove ads - like you can on other aps.

message 384: by Phrynne, Series Queen! (new)

Phrynne | 15879 comments Mod
That one at the top is also too easy to open accidentally if you are clicking too fast.

message 385: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80215 comments Mod
I've been getting those on the top of the page for over a week now and I hate them. I scroll one click and they are out of sight - but they're a jolly nuisance! And completely unnecessary because I sure as anything don't look at them!

Very true!

message 388: by Li'l Owl (new)

Li'l Owl | 2504 comments I'm moving up in the world of books! I'm not sure about the "professional reader" bit but it's very exciting for lil'ol me! Figures that I can't put my badge on right away! =o)

message 389: by Ace (new)

Ace (aceonroam) I'm not sure if this is the reason that GR is slow for me at the moment but there's a big banner right across the top of the page, every page, advertising "goodreads biggest books of spring". I can't hide it when I scroll up either.

And....It's not a very international banner, since spring is well and truly over in Australia and NZ! Just saying.

message 390: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80215 comments Mod
I noticed it for the first time this morning Ace. It's on my phone as well as the laptop. Everything was incredibly slow for me last night but it was before the banner and we had a storm around us, so thought that would be it. Or the notoriously (un)popular NBN ;)

message 391: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 90 comments I spotted it this morning too. So there are two lots of ads now plus a banner. Crazy!

Almost wish they’d charge a low yearly membership and not have ads as an option.

message 392: by Ace (new)

Ace (aceonroam) Its gone!

Maybe it was temporary.

Maybe people complained about the speed?

I'm just glad its gone!

message 393: by Diana (new)

Diana (secondhandrose) | 73 comments Even though the banner was northern hemisphere focused I found some good reading in the link.

I haven't looked at Giveaways for a while.. and just read the info they provided. Do you know anything more than what they've mentioned, Brenda?

I noticed that too. Bit sad as I love the giveaways. You find books that you may not have read but you won and loved it.
