Has anyone had a look at the latest GR homepage overhaul? (Link to beta site available in June newsletter) It's really not clear to me how we are meant to access Group discussions, other than going through multiple clicks to the Group's homepage. Unless I'm missing something, I think this is a big step backwards.*I submitted feedback on this.

I'm not sure why they released the beta testing without those functions as they would impact largely on how people use GR!

But it still sounds like it will be buried at least one page deep (ie not on the homepage). Let's see what they come up with.

But I guess we'll have to wait and see!
Not sure how the discussions will work - I have a plethora of conversations going on quite a few groups. Notifications are what I use to keep track of the ones I want to follow - anything else I just go to the unread on the group page.
Still will wait and see how it plays out.

@Sally, I normally have my discussions on my homepage where I get the top 4 activities in each group. This is my 90% of the time back to base page, so I would really miss it if its not available easily.
I use email for my notification each morning to direct me to latest posts in each discussion I follow. I hope that doesn't change.
I was doing that too B, but after thousands of emails I decided to follow the new listings online instead. One advantage I found in doing this was knowing when a new (to me) thread is created or an older one is resurrected with a new comment.The other thing I had to do is drop a few groups as it became information overload on the discussions page.
OMG, turned on the computer this morning, clicked my Goodreads tab in the favourites bar, and everything has changed. It is not to my liking at all. They made an abrupt change to the layout several months ago, which I took a while to get used to. Feel very disheartened and want to leave Goodreads for ever.

I just went to the Home page...hated it and came straight back! My bookshelf is so big it runs right down the left hand side of the page forever! and it takes ages to load and slows everything down.What happened to "if it ain't broke don't fix it?"

I'm sure it's coming your way Phrynne! I got it last week so they must be taking a while to roll it out. Still don't like it and it is so slow to load on the iPad. Surely they beta tested and got feedback first?

It's easy to get to - just hover your mouse over "community" in the bar at the top of the page, and click on "discussions".

I guess the phone app is different from the version I use on my laptop because when I use the new Home page, (after the end of my bookshelves) everything is on the Right side of my screen.Brenda, I'm using Firefox and am afraid to change to another whatchmacallit (??) in case I lose things when I access other sites.

Ah, thanks for this suggestion Phrynne. That's exactly what I will do to avoid all the ADVERTISING which now constitutes the home page.
Mary, someone in AR, I think, told me how to stop getting the adverts but I've forgotten how I did it.
Visually I find the new Home Page impossible to view comfortably. There are simply far, far too many images of book covers ,competing for my attention. It's like the side bar of Facebook has been spread across the entire surface of the page. (A) I am 'allergic' to advertising and try to avoid it at all costs, and (B) I hate the fact that every post is now several line spaces broad, instead of being a straightforward line entry, and (C) all the little boxes chucked all over the page look really messy and unprofessional. I reckon Goodreads has stuffed up big time. I cringe to think how much Goodreads paid some IT wizard/marketing guru to come up with this mish-mash!
Goodreads has really shot itself in the foot this time.As the convenor of my real-time book club, I have been trying to encourage some of the less tech-savvy members of the group to use Goodreads. I had arranged for an AV presentation at this month's up-coming meeting, so I could demonstrate how I use GR to monitor my reading choices and to exchange comments with other readers. There is no way in a million years that I would continue with the presentation, now that the so-called 'improvements' have stuffed up the visuals of the site so comprehensively. Judging by the stream of angry comments posted here, regular, competent users are very unhappy. Can you imagine trying to introduce new users to this total disaster area?
Agree Mary, its terrible. But I'm addicted to GR. What to do? I'm just trying to avoid the home button. But like a junkie I keep hitting on home.There's tips on the GR feedback on 2 important changes you can make on your browser to avoid some of the new features. One is Adblocker an addon you need to download. Two is a browser redirct function that when you hit Home it takes you to Discussions. Hard work, but might be worth it in the long run if you use the same PC a lot.
