Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments You have until April 3rd to post a poem, and on April 4th and 5th we’ll vote for which one we thought was best.

Please post directly into the topic and not a link. Please don’t use a poem previously used in this group.

Your poem can be any length.

This week’s topic is: Fairytale from Down Under.

The rules are pretty loose. You can write a poem about anything that has to do with the topic. I do not care, but the poem you post must relate to the topic somehow.

Have fun!

M | 11617 comments Midway Park

Her hands rubbing sun lotion in
have roused to arms a million men,
her glance to ocean bottoms hurled
the warships of a lust-mad world.

Will she leave me to flak by night
or the Pacific’s blue daylight
in airplanes flaming to the sea
in bloodthirsty eternity?

message 6: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Wow, M. I love the last line, "in bloodthirsty eternity."

M | 11617 comments Thank you, Stephanie!

message 8: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments No problem, M.

Mute Mermaid

Under the murky, green sea,
there sleeps a water witch.
She sleeps with a key
within an ocean ditch.

A mermaid with red hair,
holds a locket close and dear.
Unafraid of the sun's glare,
it is the witch she fears.

She swims for miles.
Mute, she seeks the key.
Fighting against the witch's wiles,
down, under the deep, green sea.

M | 11617 comments Oh, I like the images in this, Stephanie, and the rhyme is very well done.

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Excellent imagery in both of these, with fun and very effective rhyming! Hey! I might actually have the time to write something. It's been a while. Well, maybe I'll get a Haiku done.

exploring tales*

Sitting on her bed
under the white down duvet
we shared fairy tales.

*My thanks to Belly for inspiring me to title this tawdry tale.

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Aw, how sweet, Guy,

message 13: by Guy (last edited May 25, 2013 12:59AM) (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments LoL! Thank you Belly [takes bow]. If you're not careful with your ovations I will be forced to do an encore. And that would not a good thing.

Thank you Stephanie. 'Sweet' made me smile broadly and for a long time.

Kristen Marincic Hiestermann | 519 comments I'm struggling with these topics lately... but if I don't get called to substitute teach again tomorrow, I might come up with something...

message 16: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Awesome!

Kristen Marincic Hiestermann | 519 comments I ended up getting a last minute call to work today, so I didn't get anything written :( But next week will be a stronger effort for sure :)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) A Time and a Place

In a far off land
On a shore sat a man
Hat on the ground
A ring of gold on his hand

Power was upon him
Fate in every limb
And he went by a name
The simple name of Tim

From shore to shore
What he was famed for
Was destiny choice
Adventures he had in store

One day his time will be over
To his place will come another
But until that day
He is doomed to be a rover

Rikki | 45 comments The Darker Path

The dark wood
No way out
Why did you choose the darker path?

Strange noise
Zip of wings
In front of you the creature sits

Small is it
Evil two eyes
Fear and shiver

Enchant and spell
The world sinks
"Eat the mushrooms."

Cry for thirst
Scream for air
No help now
"Drink the swamp water."

Fall asleep
Vines grow
Squeeze and choke

Die

Simple as that
tough luck
no magic kiss

Why did you chose the darker path?

message 20: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Belly’s poem “mate” is vivid and surrealistic, with its reptilian mammals and the majestic staircase standing alone in a barren waste. Nothing symbolic here, of course.

Reading Christa’s “A Time and a Place,” I wonder what Tim is famed for, why he’s doomed to roam. The images in this poem are colorful!

Don’t eat the mushrooms! Rikki’s “The Darker Path” takes the reader down a road to swampy darkness.

These are great!

message 23: by Victor (new)

Victor Lopez (lunheur) Wow, Belly, I felt like I was in a Dali painting haha great job.

Rikki, it feels like every week I can't wait for your poem. I love the way you describe things, especially in this poem. It feels quick and fleeting, like trying to read ancient texts on ship at sea with a wildly swinging lamp and you get a few mysterious words every time the lamp swings back.

message 24: by Rikki (new)

Rikki | 45 comments Thank you so much Victor!
My poems are usually dark or depressing. For a positive person I just can't write a positive poem. Haha!
