Lauren I posted it for this book because I thought it would get a wide response since so many people of different tastes have read it. Mine is either Les Misérables or L'homme Qui Rit because I love the themes, the characters, and the quotes that really catch my attention that Victor Hugo uses.

Mo I loved An Instance of the FingerpostandThe Dream of ScipioThe first a mystery with a history of science bent, the second mysteries set in the same place in different ages and events. I might add I am not keen on his art mysteries, all quite the same.

message 3: by Graham (new) - added it

Graham Tapper The Truth - Terry Pratchett, in the Fiction category. The God Delusion - Richard Dawkins, in the non-Fiction category. And, a book I doubt you will ever find - "Who Rolled Away The Stone" - a book I read many years ago, written by what I seem to remember was an American ex-army officer, which mysteriously disappeared, a replacement copy of which I have still yet to find.

The one in the title, plus Lord of the Rings, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Eragon, All Quiet on the Western Front, Lord of the Flies, The Golden Compass, The Odyssey, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, My Sister's Keeper, etc.

Claire Englewood This is a question I just can't answer, it's like being asked which of your children you like best. So, I created a List that you're invited to vote on in Listopia: Books That Produce Addicted, Obsessive Readers . I hope you'll laugh when you read the description, at least at me because the books I put on the list truly are the ones that if I lose my copy, I have to buy a new one. I think I might stop breathing if they didn't exist in my house. I have read them all, several times, and I still have to take the time to type in my reviews for them. Can't wait to see what you have to say, and to see your additions.

Ben Wade Protector by Larry Niven. Ringworld next. It gets harder after that because I loved the The Hobbit and the LoTR trilogy, but my favorite adolescent book was Mysterious Island by Jules Verne.

Oh, I know. I loved Mysterious Island as well. Did you ever see the TV series about the pioneers of scifi, each show about a different author? Not only Verne but Wells, Asimov, Burroughs, it was heaven. I hope someone's working on another season.

Ulysseys by Joyce, read it once and never forgotten it

Don Quioxtie by Servantes - having Don Quioxtie in your head makes the world a far better place

Goulds Book of Fish by Richard Flannagan - a jaw dropper if ever there was one

Claire Englewood Kellie wrote: "Wow. Favorite? I'm not sure...there are so many amazing ones. However....one I never get tired of reading is 'To Kill A Mockingbird' by Harper Lee. Amazing." If you haven't read it already, you would enjoy Mockingbird, A Portrait of Harper Lee by Charles J. Shields. It really added to my appreciation of TKAM.

Could you say more about Gould's Book of Fish? Which genre, why did you pick it up, what were you expecting?

message 33: by Shannon (new)

Shannon May I say, you all have fantastic taste in literature. :)

Stephanie The Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost
Harry Potter Series
Dark Fever by Karen Marie Moning
Sookie Stackhouse Series
The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks
BDB series by J.R. Ward
Once Burned and Twice Tempted by Jeaniene Frost

Richard Goulds Book of Fish is set in tasmania during it's time as a penal colony. it's the story of Gould, a prisoner, who due to his artisic skills is tasked with painting the fish found in the waters.

it starts with an art collector / forger finding the manuscript in modern day but he loses it and obsessively tries to recreate it.

it's about history, about how history is controlled by the person telling / writing it (as in we get the forgers voice appearing in the narrative he is telling). it's about madness, loss, love and so much more

it's basically dazzling and well worth taking a run at. i picked it up as my wife was studying post colonial lit at Uni NSW and i was vicariously studdying through her. i am very glad i did and have trumpetted the book ever since. give it a crack and let me know what you think of it

Joseph My favorite book(s) are the books in The Heroes of Olympus series. All of them are awesome and action-packed. You should read them!

Natalie Mcdermott Circle of Friends by Maeve Binchey became my bible during my uni years. I have read it that many times but don't like ending of the movie though, they should have kept with the book ending.

Anna That's a hard question. No hard questions allowed! Just kidding :)

Let me see. . . aha, here are a few.
Pride and Prejudice
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
Harry Potter Series

The rest would go waaaaaaaay over 11000 characters. :)

Brian Meeks I think it would have to be Candide by Voltaire. It is the only book I've read six times.

Autumn I love a lot of books, but nothing will compare to the first time I read the Harry Potter books. (But Warriors and Sarah Dessen come right behind them)
