Gandalf. He made it through hell and back (pretty much literally) and he came out better for it. He ended up stronger and more powerful than any other wizard. If Balrog can't kill that man - nothing can!
I'm sorry - who is this battle between? Gandalf and ... ?
As much as I love them both, Gandalf has a badass staff. It has to be Gandalf.
