Teanka | 134 comments Hi all,
My name is Anna and I'm reading a lot of sci fi and fantasy. I really like the list of books on your to-read list (as well as read or want to read a lot of items from your bookshelf) which is why I decided to join. I'm also in the middle of rereading Gardens of the Moon with the Beyond Reality group so might as well comment here too. And it's great to see that you try to follow the series through to the end (like Eternal Sky and The dagger and the coin , I will be glad to read these).

Welcome Anna. I knew there was at least one other Malazan group read going on, but I wasn't sure where.

There is also another one in Fantasy and Sci-Fi Readalongs group, but they are already on Deadhouse Gates. Funny that everybody came up with the same idea, but I've wanted to reread the Malazan from the beginning for a long time.

Glad I found you too:)

Yeah. We don't really plan anything. People just come up with stuff to read and we make it up as we go along.

I did a big group read with the Malazan Fallen group over 1.5 years ending last May. That group is a good resource for the series as we have spoiler free discussions of every chapter along with spoilery discussions inside of tags for those who are rereading to point out all the foreshadowing.

Justine (justine_ao) Hi Anna and Robyn :)

message 257: by Teanka (new)

Teanka | 134 comments Hi Justine:)
I saw that there was a group solely dedicated to the Malazan series. That must have been interesting, thanks for the link, it could prove useful.

You're Welcome.

message 259: by Peter (new)

Peter | 153 comments Hi all my name is peter. I'm fairly new to goodreads and was looking for a good group to join as sadly no one around me likes to read (especially SF/F). This group turned up in the discussion section back when I was reading The Broken Eye (woot Brent Weeks!) and again now that I am reading The Blade Itself. I poked around a bit and it seems pretty chill here so I joined up. (:

Looking forward to hopefully having some good discussion with you all! (;

Welcome Peter.

Feel free to jump into those discussions as you read. It's been a bit on The Blade Itself, but I think it was fairly popular with the group. I hope you enjoy it. The whole trilogy is pretty good IMHO.

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments Welcome Peter! I thoroughly enjoyed the First Law

Kat | 1178 comments Welcome Peter!

This is my favourite group, I hope you"ll like it here :)

message 263: by Justine (new)

Justine (justine_ao) Hi Peter! I'm lucky to be in a house/family of readers all of whom love fantasy and sci-fi ... although there are times when we have had some rather smackdown disagreements over things. Also some awkward silences and use of codewords and hand signals at the dinner table or on Skype when trying to discuss books that some of us have read and others haven't and don't want to give out spoilers. It's actually kind of funny sometimes. :)

message 264: by Peter (new)

Peter | 153 comments Thanks all for the welcome! (:

message 265: by TS (new)

TS Chan (tschan) | 72 comments Hi everyone, I found this club via Alex's updates. I see that the group is going through the Malazan series which I am also doing at the moment. Used to be quite a reader during my school and uni-days but my reading dwindled significantly when I started working. Been trying to catch up about a couple of years back after getting my Kindle. I find that eBooks enable faster reading progress.

I love the discussion posts on Goodreads and find that I frequent Goodreads more than Facebook of late.

message 270: by Celise (new)

Celise (celise_) Hello! Just wanted to join to read the Malazan series with some support. I just finished Memories of Ice! I also love anything fantasy/sci-fi.

Kat | 1178 comments My boss calls me Cookie, but that's not very kick-ass...

message 276: by Ramza (new)

Ramza | 2 comments Hi there! Alex brought this group to my attention when I voiced my enthusiasm for carrying on with the Malazan series after a pleasant first GotM read. I'm liking it here already :)

I'm not really that much of an intensive reader ('cause of time-consuming obsessions I can't shake off, I'm afraid) so I might never be able to keep up with scheduled group readings, but in any case I'm still eager to discuss these books with y'all!

message 277: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
Welcome Ramza. Don't worry about keeping up. Some people in the group read a crazy amount. They'll still respond to your posts, so jump on in as you get to each discussion section.

message 278: by Scott (new)

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments Welcome, indeed!

Agreed with Alex, we all kind of jump in where we can.

If Rob is Quick Ben, probably makes Alex our Whiskeyjack.

Marine nicknames for everyone would be awesome.

Maybe he is! Haha. Thanks Rob. I see you're a coder. I am too, not as good as you though. I'm pretty sure you are the first coder I've met in GR.

message 286: by Sky (new)

Sky | 1291 comments Camila wrote: "I'm pretty sure you are the first coder I've met in GR."

But not the last! Actually I think there are a fair number of programmers in this group.

message 287: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
I'm not sure whether to groan or laugh at last few jokes...

And I know a ton of programmers on good reads, though to be fair most of them are people I knew before/outside of goodreads because I've worked with them.

And I've been coding for over 10 year professionally which is a bit scary typing out. The biggest thing that separates good and bad developers in my opinion is how well you can problem solve and debug code.

It helps if you're good at learning too, because most days I'm learning something, even 10 years into my career.

Justine (justine_ao) I had to think of something! My hair started going white at 20! What else could cause that except magic use? :)

Wait...don't answer that...:(

message 297: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
White at 20? Interesting.

message 298: by Justine (new)

Justine (justine_ao) Yes...magic use or excessive reading, or the combination of the two could have caused it I suppose...:)

message 299: by Justine (new)

message 300: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 28 comments Hi, I'm Ashley... I joined this group because I'm in desperate need to converse about books and looking into branching into genres outside of my comfort zone. It seems I will need to catch up with the series you guys do, so I may be just lurking for awhile. nut I will participate in discussions once I catch up.
