The Not a Book Club Club discussion
Introduction & Welcome Thread
Welcome Anna. I knew there was at least one other Malazan group read going on, but I wasn't sure where.

There is also another one in Fantasy and Sci-Fi Readalongs group, but they are already on Deadhouse Gates. Funny that everybody came up with the same idea, but I've wanted to reread the Malazan from the beginning for a long time.
Glad I found you too:)
Yeah. We don't really plan anything. People just come up with stuff to read and we make it up as we go along.
I did a big group read with the Malazan Fallen group over 1.5 years ending last May. That group is a good resource for the series as we have spoiler free discussions of every chapter along with spoilery discussions inside of tags for those who are rereading to point out all the foreshadowing.

I saw that there was a group solely dedicated to the Malazan series. That must have been interesting, thanks for the link, it could prove useful.

Looking forward to hopefully having some good discussion with you all! (;
Welcome Peter.
Feel free to jump into those discussions as you read. It's been a bit on The Blade Itself, but I think it was fairly popular with the group. I hope you enjoy it. The whole trilogy is pretty good IMHO.

I love the discussion posts on Goodreads and find that I frequent Goodreads more than Facebook of late.

I'm not really that much of an intensive reader ('cause of time-consuming obsessions I can't shake off, I'm afraid) so I might never be able to keep up with scheduled group readings, but in any case I'm still eager to discuss these books with y'all!
Welcome Ramza. Don't worry about keeping up. Some people in the group read a crazy amount. They'll still respond to your posts, so jump on in as you get to each discussion section.

Agreed with Alex, we all kind of jump in where we can.
If Rob is Quick Ben, probably makes Alex our Whiskeyjack.
Marine nicknames for everyone would be awesome.

Kat, I think Cookie can be a kick-ass name...maybe it is meant ironically?

Welcome Camila."
Maybe he is! Haha. Thanks Rob. I see you're a coder. I am too, not as good as you though. I'm pretty sure you are the first coder I've met in GR.

But not the last! Actually I think there are a fair number of programmers in this group.
I'm not sure whether to groan or laugh at last few jokes...
And I know a ton of programmers on good reads, though to be fair most of them are people I knew before/outside of goodreads because I've worked with them.
And I've been coding for over 10 year professionally which is a bit scary typing out. The biggest thing that separates good and bad developers in my opinion is how well you can problem solve and debug code.
It helps if you're good at learning too, because most days I'm learning something, even 10 years into my career.

LOL. I thought you were younger than I was. :)

:P One day soon I will grow a long grey beard. Just gotta wait for more grey to come in.

Wait...don't answer that...:(

My name is Anna and I'm reading a lot of sci fi and fantasy. I really like the list of books on your to-read list (as well as read or want to read a lot of items from your bookshelf) which is why I decided to join. I'm also in the middle of rereading Gardens of the Moon with the Beyond Reality group so might as well comment here too. And it's great to see that you try to follow the series through to the end (like Eternal Sky and The dagger and the coin , I will be glad to read these).
